Plot:
Final Fantasy Versus XIII revolves around a prince named Noctis Lucis Caelum, who is the last heir to an unnamed kingdom in which the last Crystal is kept. Because of increasingly apparent modernization in contrast to neighboring nations, Noctis' kingdom has isolated itself from the outside world. The game is set as two nations battle each other for dominance and for the last Crystal held by Noctis' kingdom. The game has been said to initiate at the "clearing" of a long Cold War between warring nations that revolved around these crystals.

15 for me, I still remember the trailer before this one, that had lingering shots of Noctis on the throne and cut out as he drew the Engine Blade while one eye glowed red. E3 2006 was stacked, the XIII trailer with the mock gameplay, the Versus trailer, and the Agito trailer with babyface Ace. I wait patiently day by day for more Kingdom Hearts news, because if it's going to take Verum Rex to experience Versus I'll take it. Maybe one day Nomura will publicly reveal the extent of what was in his head for Versus, I don't think there's a single piece of fiction I'd want knowledge of more than that.
you are not alone my friend, i had been obsessed with this trailer for almost 10yrs already and tbh the trailer of FFXVI is nothing compared to this one, this FFXV is the best of all FF they had made and i think its time square enix hear our voice and make a petition for this game to be alive
Loved this trailer so much back when it was revealed. I don't even know how I was introduced to it, I was a CoD kid and such, but saw it later on at around 2011. Still one of my favorites and this Noctis is the one I wish I got to see more of. Call it nostalgia for being a child but just the whole tone of this to me was literally magical
@@Bionimetic yep very much true, honestly i never been addicted to a trailer ever even the popular ones, after few days i forget it, but this trailer, this once in a lifetime masterpiece, its been almost 10yrs and i still havent forget this trailer, im very much obsessed as you also, this is the game many of us had been dreaming for but square enix pull off this bank out in their page, honestly this could be the game of the century if it only released completely, even me, if only i have the money, ill put it all just to make this game a reality, just like in the trailer " a fantasy based on reality" this is still our fantasy and needed to become reailty one day

I think it'll involve more Final Fantasy, there's a lot of FF references relating to Yozora, Verum Rex, and Quadratum and 3 was lacking in the FF department, not that Disney won't be involved, but might have a higher FF representation (Hopefully Lightning will show up)

I think it'd be cool if they kept the KH concept of multiple worlds and made Verum Rex crossover with Cloud, Squall and the rest of the gang. Hell, Yozora could even meet his counterpart Noctis from XV! Now that'd be an encounter i'd love to see.

It seems like its more likely that the old Kingdom hearts disney time is over and kingdom hearts is now Final fantasy canon. The Master or Masters being in Quadratum means that this world will be more important in KH 3.5 Quadratum Re:mindmix

It gives off that vibe because it's a fully rendered trailer that's not showing an ounce of game footage.
I remember vividly in middle school, when this trailer dropped my entire class was talking about how square out did themselves and this was going to be the best game ever. Good times.

And you will, this original noctis was teased in Nomuras upcoming project of Verum Rex. If you played Kingdom Hearts 3, then you’ll know what I’m implying.
Same, this Noctis would have been so much better than what we got. Sadly theyve seemed to make another copy of Noctis named Yozora who also looks like Riku and fight giant robo toys :/ so far its not hitting like this trailer has. Plus verum rex will most likely be turned way down in terms of rating when compared to this rated M feel of this trailer, thus never living up to Versus XIIIs true potential and serving as another reminder of the game we never got :c

It’s crazy how you can see how different of a concept Noctis was here. I feel like his scope of abilities were more vast than what we got. It’s like they based it all from the part where Noctis threw his sword and teleported to it, even though he didn’t have to use his weapons to warp any other time. This man was protecting a throne, and that throne was the idea of a good game lol
leaks said that the lucis caelum family were worshipers of etro (FNC goddess of death) and that warping was originally noctis traveling back and forth from the realm of the dead - which makes sense since the weapons in XV were the weapons of the dead kings of lucis... also stella was supposed to die and their love story took place with her in the after life... what i would do for that mf game
If you unlock Armiger Unleashed in FFXV this is exactly what you can do and more, you got combos, infinite teleportation, the spinning swords around you and even some of the poses he does in this trailer

More than 10 years later and I still think this is one of the best game trailers out there.
I love how many shits Noctis doesn't give. He goes out, kills a few people, and then he doesn't even care to finish them off, he just walks back inside.
Nyxato I think it is actually really telling that he didn’t finish them off. It seems that he was doing it out of hatred for them, and then once he was satisfied with the amount of death he dealt he leaves.
He looks like he's guarding the place. Makes him more of a badass that he can guard it without the help of his soldiers. Maybe he's keeping the throne warm till his fathers return or maybe king regis is already dead and the soldiers planned to assassinate him.
Then the actual game looks censored as you only kill monsters and clones.

The way he controls the swords is just like how Sora does with the Ultima Keyblade in KH3. Nomura you sly fox.

i didnt get FF15 yet because i dont have a ps4 yet. ff versus 13 was one of the main reasons for me to even get a ps3 but it took too long. is ff15 really that much of a different game to ff versus? that just makes me sad af because i was so hype when i first saw this trailer. probably my most anticipated game ever.

Theclaw Yaww i spent years hyping up on it reading about and watching it on the internet and wondering how great it will be. i remember nomura saying he is taking a so long because he is trying to do many amazing things with it. it would have transcended ps3 gaming. versus xiii is the best game i never got to play. the director changed and they removed stella but didnt they at least maintain the base story? that's just disrespectful to nomura if they didnt considering how long he spent developing the game. it's about noctis being the last heir to a royal lineage protecting a crystal from other countries.

Even many years later, watching this trailer still gives me goosebumps. I remember having this version of Noctis as my PS3 theme. The upcoming game Lost Soul Aside actually plays how I thought Final Fantasy Versus XIII was gonna play back then with super fast teleporting action and such.

And night translate in Latin means noctis
And sky translated in latin means caleum
His name in Latin litterly translates to noctis caleum
The ultimate troll move would be to have KH4 with Yozora, Sora and Noctis cameo as the FF rep'.
Those moments in 0:58 and 1:23 practically defines Noctis the way he should've or could've been. An Anti-Hero. Someone willing to do what needs to be done to protect.

I just realized something after beating XV.
SPOILERS
1. In the ending of XV, Noctis sits and sleeps on his throne the same way he did in this trailer.
2. Since XV was Versus XIII, and still had some of the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos in some degree, XV essentially marks the end of the Fabula Nova Crystallis saga.
They have at least one more coming out in fabula Nova Crystallis saga I'm not sure if you would exactly count it but type-0 online for mobile is coming out so and type-0 is part of the saga so we have at least one more
True, but I'm talking about the main games themselves; Type-0 and XV respectively began as Agito XIII and Versus XIII, and they were meant to be companion games alongside XIII. So regardless of additional titles based on the original release (FF Agito, Type-0 Online, A King's Tale etc.), the main games have been reworked and completed, ultimately bringing closure to this planned saga.

Noticed your reply was a month old and i've fallen back into my FFXV phase. I don't know if this was a joke. BUT, the wiki states that Yozora was the name given to Noctis in the world of FF Versus XIII.
Noctis Lucius Caelum being his name in FFXV, both roughly translate the same in both latin and japanese.

Yozora and his original world are heavily based on Tetsuya Nomura's original vision of Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy Versus-XIII, with Yozora himself being based on Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum from said game, whose name also translates to "night sky" from Latin. He's shown to have friends and a love interest based on Noctis', including Gladiolus, Ignis, Prompto, and Stella Nox Fleuret, who was replaced by Lunafreya in XV. He also has similar weapons and powers to Noctis, who wields a sword and can warp around in XV. He also has heterochromia, as his eyes are different colors; red and blue, which is what Noctis was also going to have originally. Part of the endings of the Secret episode of Re:Mind is also a near shot-for-shot remake of a segment of one of the early 2010 Versus-XIII trailers.

More of an Anti-Hero really. But yes Noctis was meant to be a VERY complex character and he was meant to be really evil in a few places in the story.
That original idea would have made a better story. Play as the villain.
Devil Hunter also looked way to edgy and emo in my opinion.

I wonder if we'll get a scene like this in the game, it would be pretty epic. I remember 10 years ago watching the first trailer, it was instant hype.
Back to E3 Tabata reassures fans that this track "Somnus" is still in the game and will be used in a very interesting way. I honestly think they will just remade this scene for ingame instead of CGI. Atleast i hope so, such an iconic scene.

It's been 14 years since this trailer was released to the world. And four years since ffxv has been released but people like myself and others still watch this trailer like it's was 2006/7. Seriously ffvsxiii would of been a masterpiece still we ff fans and gamers still come back and marvel at the beautiful vsxiii trailer every month or so.

Even if I love FFXV, I am extremely intrigued and fascinated by the way Versus XIII's concept seems to be, the tone of it and of course, this trailer and this calmly fierce Noctis. ♥
it shows the strength of nomura's original vision i think. hopefully he can take some of that and put it in FF7R...KH3 likely will not be that although it looks great

Versus was originally a spinoff, Nomura said that like Type 0 which was super violent, it gave him free reign to do what he pleased in terms of things a mainline final fantasy could not do. It probably would have gotten a hard M rating just like Type 0

Seeing Verum Rex and that secret ending in Kingdom Hearts 3, where you see the citadel and Insomnia and most importantly where you can hear Somnus playing, really gives hope that this will become reality
Not only that, rex mentioned that there was a bahamut boss fight in the game, and you know what that means... Verum rex could just be another final fantasy game.....or maybe not, but i can say for sure that versus is living inside kh :3

i remember exactly how i waited freaking 10 years + for this game and when i played the demo and the piano version of this played at the main menu i just bursted into tears and i didn't know why, that soundtrack has just some magic to it....
Even if the original idea never came to fruition through a video game, I would love to be able to see this story as a novelisation, because this story had so much potential and I just want to know what happened!!!

FINALY FANTASY versus XIII had such a darker tone than XV. I've been playing XV for a while now and i feel like it's a whole different game. Kinda like this Noctis over the one we got. I mean I do like the fact they are focusing more on the friendship and brotherhood between the characters and the whole traveling aspect I like but, if they kept this badass Noctis and have him learn along on our travels to be more human while learning about brotherhood and friendship would've been cool. But to each their own I guess.
