Aaaand her answer was one of the most insulting cop outs in film history.

@@Spckeck Not really he fell in love with the sea and the sea doesn't care how you feel it can be a gorgeous day one minute and wreak horrifying destruction the next.
“Tis in my nature”
His death is a death that had emotion pulled from the audience. When most antagonists die, you feel a sense of relief. With Davy Jones, i actually felt sorry for him.
I felt sad and relief at same time... ´cause Jack really at a point set him free by giving Turner the broken sword and he was finally free from his pain, suffering and duty.. besides he wanted to be with his love Calipso and he wasn´t bad so yeah... it´s actually pretty sad but in a way good in same time.
It's interesting how his death scene is portrayed, there isnt a single sense of glory, because in a way everyone still loses. Jack loses his chance at immortality, and will and elizabeth lose each other too. Theres no triumph, just somber music the entire time
@@theclown2664 You're -NEARLY- entirely correct. People tend to overlook the start of At World's End, where Tia Dalma speaks on Jones. He mentions his duties, how he was to harbor and ferry the souls of the dead. Which is fine, but she also mentions that he's no longer what he once was, and he has terrorized the seas for decades since. He has a good soul, but his heart has turned cold.
"Calypso..."
He spent the last of his dying breath to say that name.
And then he fell into the embrace of the sea....of her.

One of the most underrated villains in cinema, in my opinion. His story is so tragic and has more weight to it than what most villains are nowadays.
Villain is an... Odd word for Davy, I'd go with antagonist (despite the fact that he does nothing wrong for 2 movies).
@@Spckeck no I'd definitely agree. Hes a tragic antagonist. He does have his... evil moments, but hardly a villain. Beckett definitely wins that award.

"And what of your fate, Davy Jones?"

Calypso....
It’s the movie that makes him the villain , he was a man who fell in love with the sea, but no one can tame the sea. She flows bc she can, she goes wherever the wind will take her, and that is why she never came back, that is why a loving man forsakes himself and everyone around him, the pain of his loss was so bad that he ripped out his own heart, so he would never feel that pain again, he made himself cold and decided to get back at his love by not doing the job she cursed him with. Calypso is the true villain who started it all.
One does not simply... fall in love with the sea goddess without suffering consequences O:)
xD xD
She's not exactly the villain as you yourself commented that her nature is *free* and as the sea, she goes wherever the wind takes her. The sea is freedom for the pirates, and Calypso is that freedom. By how upset she was when she found out about being betrayed by Jones and how she kept the music box on her person even as she travelled through uncharted waters, I figure she did indeed feel something for him.
So, technically, the "villain" is Jones' human heart that suffered because it could not tame the ever so free Sea.
Let's be fair: The only villain was Beckett. Manipulated Jones with blackmail, forced him to kill his pet, etcetera, etcetera. A heartless fiend with ill intent, who, need we not forget, had a young boy hung for piracy. A child, for God's sake!
She’s a goddess. The fact that she loved jones, a mere mortal, for as long as she did is really amazing. For her, his entire lifetime is the blink of an eye. Not defending what she did, just pointing out that deities don’t often consider the emotions of mortals, theyre typically selfish beings in the stories
It's a very rich story

Jorah the Andal, pin his comment.
Barbossa was also a Darth Vader of the Caribbean
Have you even watched either movie? Vader became Vader by killing padmae in his rage against obi one, half burns to to death and is made into a cyborg and became the sixth lord. Davy Jones got cursed to live forever in the sea by the blood of a pirate.
Actually Darth Vader and Davy Jones are very similar, they were both on the "good" side and they put love above ererything but then they felt betrayed by the person they trusted the most, even though it was not true for Anakin, and they made a choice, the choice to stop feeling, to stop caring, Davy ripped his own heart from his chest but Anakin kinda did the same, he killed his former self to only be the symbol of fear that Vader is for the galaxy and his armor was kinda the chest that kept Davy's heart. And from that point there were no going back, they had to be cruel and abandonned any idea of redemption, even if, in their deeper self, there were still a small piece of their former self that was still alive et they did everything in their power to shut it down, but they couldn't, I think Davy actually meant what he was saying when he wanted to kill Will to prevent him from suffering of his love, the only difference between them is that Davy didn't come back on the good side in his last moment, but hey, it looks like he is coming back in the next movie so wait and see.
But yes they are so similar, Davy was probably inspired from Vader.

Yung Boi Escobar I always loved the stories of villains more than the heroes as a kid. More story, painful memories the heroes could never relate to. Demonized because they were a “sole survivor” and hated for realistic PTSD/survivor guilt they held onto for years.
That's because most adults become tainted and jaded themselves enough to understand them. But for those of us that remain pure and unjaded and see the world through the eyes of a child we understand the villains out of empathy and sympathy but we also understand that their minds are warped and that their view of the world isn't the truth they're seeing the world through hurt eyes a broken heart and a darkened soul. And that using that damaged part of them to hurt others is and never will be okay for they too will create more villans in this world with their unjust actions

Bill Nigh or however you say his name isn't getting any younger and I don't think any other person can portray Davy Jones the same way he did. Davy Jones is probably one of my most favorite film characters ever, not just villains (although most of my favorite characters consist of villains haha). His story is just so interesting and heart-wrenching, and this theme enhances that story SO WELL. I love how there are different renditions of it, from the quiet solitude of the music box to the raging orchestral ensemble, it truly does offer a depth to his character like we don't often see. I've yet to come across a character's theme that quite strikes me as much as Davy Jones does.

He is one of, if not, the best villains Disney has to offer
In my eyes he wasn’t a villain he was a lost soul who had lost his way
They should make a prequel about Davy Jones before he met calypso. Have it end with him finding calypso had abandoned him, and the final scene be his transformation into the monster that plagued the seas

This is the best vilain. Ever
cof cof... darth vader... cof cof
He is basically the Darth Vader of Pirates. For MANY reasons.
that's true but i dont think its the best villain of all
Well, to each his own of course, but I think that Anakin wasn't really a vilain ( Weak at the beginning , then controled by someone stronger...) while Davy Jones decided to become the one he is , because calypso has betray him.
But it's totally personal so I can perfectly understand If you disagree.
Does killing children and betraying those who trust you is not enough to be a villain?
ok, yeah, he whas manipulated but that doesnt erase what he did
Davy Jones its an amzing villain, personally, I think his tragic story is amazing, sad and biutifull at the same time... but THE BEST VILLAIN EVER??
mmmmmm i dont know
Davy jones was a good man . That's why he suffered so much because of Calipso. Transformation of him to be a heartless creature was not his fault at first place , she didn't came after 10 years... . His story lead me to took a good lesson from a villain which I grown fond of him in time
I think Davy Jones is a perfect antagonist his back story is perfectly done and compared to thanos he is better
Thanos is nothing compared to him.
“You can’t best the devil twice, son.” - Davy Jones
i admire thanos' goal about killing half of the universe to save it eventhough it was bs, but I don't feel him the same way I feel davy jones, all davy jones had was pain, still they're both great villains
I personally like Jones better, but both Jones and Thanos are well written. Jones is more of a tragic villain. He does bad things, but bad things also kind of trap him. Thanos, while he isn’t as tragic, is more philosophical and believes he is the hero as his mission, while it’ll cost half the universe, would ideally make the other half not suffer as much. His ambition is admirable as his motives are good and honest even though his goal is morally wrong
@DAVI KLEINPAUL *cough* *cough* Vader

And he still loves her, despite everything she did to him, despite everything he had suffered, he will embrace her, and forgive her any second she admits her fault and ask his forgiveness. the character is just too good written, too REAL...

When he's on his organ leave him alone and listen to this great music
I see a story play out here. It starts with Jones coming across Calypso at the beginning, and she gives him the task of harboring sailors and those who died at sea. She also tells him every 10 years they can meet, and he agrees. He then spends 10 years on the seas, caring for the sailors who died at the seas, and when he returns to the place that they met, she doesn't show up. So, he vows to keep the sailors on his ship for an eternity, as he cuts out his heart in defiance to Calypso. He then spends the next 80 years on his ship, terrorizing the sea, until he meets his end at the hands of William Turner, Captain Jack Sparrow, and Elizabeth Swann. As he falls into the maelstrom, he regrets all the terrible things he has done, and finally, after such a long time, forgives Calypso for what she did.
His life would make a great movie.. This is what Disney should do instead of Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
"Ten Years I devoted to the duty you charged me, Ten Years I looked after those who died at Sea."
And finally when we could be together again you weren't there
Why weren't you there
the humming sound that starts at 5:25 and grows, along with the music box, makes this beautiful melody even more haunting, as if even something beautiful and pure like the music box has something darker and heavy behind it.

For all you people wondering why Will was starting to change due to the duty he was assigned to fulfill, cause I feel like everyone was wondering about that, tl:dr, it's because to Jones', it had started out as a duty, but he turned into a curse, a curse that Will took on when he killed him.
The duty that Calypso gave to Jones, wasn't a curse originally, he was to ferry souls lost at sea to the afterlife for all eternity, in exchange for seeing his love, the sea, Calypso, in human form, one day every 10 years. When she wasn't there one day, he grew bitter, and on a day when he knew where she would be there, he brought the bretheren court and told them how to bind her in her human form. He brought them with him, and he had them tie her up and knock her out, as he had her knocked out because he couldn't look her in the eyes. He then committed her to be stuck in her human form, using the cursed words of lover, I assume he said something like, "In this form you betrayed me, and so to this form, I betray you!"
He then cut out his own heart to try and hurt her, but also to corrupt the purpose he had taken on. He cut out his heart so he could bind himself to The Dutchman, and so remove her power over him, because his heart will always belong to her. In the end, he turned her gift into a curse, gaining immortality by binding himself to The Dutchman to keep himself "alive", but losing his humanity as a result, with the only thing keeping him partly human being his heart, removed from him before he bound himself to The Dutchman and tainted himself. Jones hated his heart for this reason, as it kept a small part of him loving Calypso, and a small part of him that would keep one foot stuck in the mortal realm, and therefore a small vulnerability. Originally, before they betrayed each other, when he was still doing his duty, his heart was the only thing that kept him from turning into the conglomerate of sea creatures he one day became, as Calypso, the goddess of the sea, the sea herself, kept him from turning into it, because she held power over him due to his heart belonging to her. If Jones's heart had remained in his chest, Calypso would have had control over his immortality and his protection from transforming, but as soon as he had bound her, she would have taken his immortality away, and the sea was all he had left to look forward to, so he took that power away from her, and so he lost his protection from the transformation. He made it so that with The Dutchman being removed from Calypso's power, she could not take his immortality or his ship away, because she had no power over him with his heart being cut from his chest, and no power over the ship as she was trapped in a human form. But The Dutchman needed someone to chart it's path over the waves of our world into the seas of the next one, and so instead of the goddess who granted it it's magic, it must always have a captain. The other reason Jones cut out his own heart to bind himself to The Dutchman, was because without Calypso's power over it to keep him at the helm past the edge of the world, like how she used her power to get Jacks friends to the locker to rescue him, he wouldn't be able to follow the ship past the edge of our world, so he cut out his heart to keep his "life" in our world, while he could move into the next unhindered.
When Will took on the duty of captain when he killed Jones, he never was doing it for the immortality or his lover, he did it because Jones's purpose needed to be rectified. Nevertheless, Calypso's influence over the ship had been taken away and put into the captain of The Dutchman, that is if she even still cared about that ship. The main thing is, even with the man who placed the curse being dead, the problem still remained. If Will was to survive after having his heart pierced by Jones, he had to ferry souls to the other side so his life would continue, but without the magic of Calypso to guide it and him over the edge of the world, he had to take the one thing in him which would prevent the transformation from taking place, his heart, and cut it out. Without Elizabeth's love being able to reach him, as he cut out his heart and left it with her, Will was always going to change, it was just a matter of time. True, the sea would be kinder to him as long as he fulfilled the duty which he took on, but it would only slow the process down. This is why I believe Will was starting to change.
ps. read my replies on this comment if you wanna know things that have already been preestablished that fix other plot holes
Now for Jack and the compass
One thing I wanna mention, when Tia says Jack bartered for the compass with her, you get the sense that he didn't barter for it in the traditional sense, I mean, this is Calypso we're talking about here. I saw someone else's comment on one of the clip videos where Jack first meets Tia Dalma, about how the captain of the Wicked Wench we see in PotC 5 tasked Jack with stealing the compass from Tia, and she caught Jack in the act. Tia then asks Jack why he isn't stealing it for himself, and he tells her how he's just a nobody, (and this is where I saw someone's comment on Jack's compass plothole explained figures in) he tells her how he wishes to be the greatest pirate ever, and she tells him, "What if you could be?" so Jack made deal with her. With what we know of Jack's character, this all actually makes sense. going along this story, I assume Tia said something along the lines of, "Take the compass, go back to your captain with it, tell him what I'm about to tell you. This compass will lead anyone to their greatest desire, as long as you remain faithful to it, and never give it up. Betray it though, and it will unleash your greatest fear, and it will bring a reckoning upon you! Tell that to your captain, and tell him this as well, that payment for the compass will be forestalled, but one day, the price will come due, and he will pay it in full, a fair price for such a compass." Now for the deal, you have to keep in mind that Jack was just a crewman, even as a first mate of a pirate captain, he knew he couldn't afford whatever Tia wanted for it, but he certainly didn't want to steal it from her without giving her something of worth, so Jack made deal with the only thing he knew was everything to him, his future. Jack made a deal with Tia where the price of the compass would be paid when he became captain, he certainly didn't have the captain dying in mind when he said this, but this is what Tia wanted, as she knew Jack being the captain of the Wicked Wench in the right moment would save the all the pirates, and all the pirate lords who could free her, including Jack, the pirate lord who would swing the vote in order to make Elizabeth Pirate King, who would then decide to free her, from death. Jack bartered for it in the sense he knew it was eventually going to belong to him, after serving his captain for a time.
One thing I also wanna mention, as it makes sense for having a captain of the Wicked Wench before Jack. Jack was sold into slavery by his Granny, who thought it would make a man out of him. With this in mind, you gotta understand that Cutler Becket wouldn't just hire Jack as a captain of a ship in the EITC without having something of value. The thing Jack had of value, was the Wicked Wench, and it's crew. I feel after Jack and his crew outwitted Salazar, they all wanted to do something that wouldn't leave them in the crosshairs of anymore pirate hunters. So Jack met with Becket, and he promised to be a captain for the company, and Becket gave him the assignment to deliver some "cargo", but then Jack found out it was 100 slaves, and since he himself knew what that was like, he knew he couldn't do this, and he decided to free them.
I love the percussion at 0:45

This suite theme song from Davy just tell us about that Love Tragic..
He suffered from not seeing Calypso after the first 10 years..
Every time I listen to this, one single tear escapes my eyes.. This is just too sad

Nahhh the best scene is when he says: “Master Turner, feel free to go ashore”
*Turns*
*Turns back quickly*
“The better next time we make Port!”
*Laughing*
I love that scene sm
I feel for Davy Jones. When everything and everyone has looked down on you and your love leaves, what else is there do? Sometimes it’s best to embrace that evil inside for a little than to keep it in all the time
I love how it starts sad and slow like it shows how he was once human and didn't want to become this monster but then speeds up showing he embraced it. But then the slow and sad melody shows he still remembers when he was human. This theme fits him perfectly.
I play a game called Atlas and I own a mythical galleon on the official servers named The Flying Dutchman. I lay waste to other people's ships and I listen to this while doing it. Makes it that much more dramatic.
awesome dude!
keep doing it dude!
Beautiful. I love the build up, this has always been one of my favorite themes. I wish there was more kraken in there, but its fine considering this is about Jones and not his pet X3 I love what you did with the ending, it surprised me (in a good way), but all of your transitions are seamless and amazing as always. keep up the great work! ^^
This is my favorite one by far! Keep up the good work!
Three words to define Davy Jones: Sad and in love
that's four
Beautiful.
by far the best backstory for a movie villian
A monster is not born. A monster is created...
He's back boys!
And he probably wants revenge on Will and Jack, i know i would.
End Credits scene...
But shouldn't his curse be broken too ?
Yep
@@analothor he wasn't under a curse, it was voluntary
"I can set you free mate."
"My freedom was forfeit long ago!"
This is the best version I ever heard thanks :)

@@xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx the scene where Davy Jones walks into the room where will and Elizabeth are sleeping and will wakes up and Davy isn't there but there's a barnacle on the floor?
Best character, best pirate, best lover
You’d expected to be happy when he died. Where is the triumphant music? Where is the glory? Where is the relief? There is none.
my favorite villain of all time
