Hello, Viking Samurai. I never knew that, about Don "The Dragon" Wilson almost fighting in UFC. That would have been great to see. Especially, back when it first started. TERRANCE OUT
Yeah I'm a big fan of Don and I know he would out kickbox Hughes but that's back when Hughes was throwing everyone at that weight around like nothing. Not saying what would happen for sure either way js.
Thanks for the correction. I was very quickly informed that I was very wrong about his great wrestling background. That definitely changes the dynamic of an MMA match with him. I still think fight fans would have enjoyed our fight!

I saw the first UFC at a friends house. It was strange to us. We wondered what the hell we were watching. It was comical. But we were shocked by the outcome. Whatever you think of it, it was one of the greatest sporting moments.
Another good interview with Don The Dragon Wilson. Also Don The Dragon Wilson is right about Danna White being a cheap LOL. Thank you Viking Samurai for all these great videos, this would not be possible without you Viking Samurai.

Neat to hear all this stuff. Just so much we'll never know/hear without these types of interviews. Thanks guys.

Don "The Dragon" Wilson has the best sidekicks! In his movies, you will see Don do that spin with his body followed by a kick, but in his matches in the ring, he constantly throws side kicks at his opponent. I had watched him in a kickboxing match on a VHS video made during the late 90s. He was just throwing side kicks at his chubby opponent and nothing else for that whole match. 😋
How many times did you pinch yourself to make sure you weren't dreaming? lol To just listen to him talk and explain is so mind grabbing. This is great stuff bro.
As someone who likes to throw sidekicks myself, I'd love to get more footage of his fights. I think I've watched everything available on YT. It's interesting that he doesn't mention that the Gracies were done with the UFC before his association with the UFC began.
I remember when Don was doing commentary for UFC and after a lack luster fight, Don was asked what his opinion was of the fight. And his response was “if I give my honest opinion I’ll be fighting both of these guys at the after party.” At King of the Cage he clarified that neither of them were trying to win, they were just trying not to lose. I would’ve loved to see Don vs. Matt Hughes. Also, I may have to make a profile on FFM.
Wicked man...FFM ...this I just have to support in one way or the other 💯 At 8:50 John Milius also did the screen play of Apocalypse Now and had a big part to play in the early success of UFC 💯
Yet another great vid of Don, the human treasure chest of awesome stories. I always thought the "Superman" punch in MMA was kind of ridiculous, nice to hear him criticize it. Cool that Don had wrestling skills, even cooler that he was hanging out with Sean and Chris Penn and the queen of pop herself Madonna.
Wilson seems to have stories for days. From training to college to pro fights to the underground fight scene to street fights to Hollywood to fatherhood ... sheesh
Don's always got a ton of energy... I'm with him hours at a time, from starting training, to finishing training and then eating lunch, he's still full of energy! Lol

Yeah, the magic of the 80s and 90s is pretty much gone in many ways... but not only when it comes to martial arts movies, same thing with bodybuilding magazines, rock music, tv shows etc.. So what are we gonna do about it? - neglect what's going on now and live in the past? Why not, at least when it comes to pop culture I do pretty much exactly that for a good 90 percent of the time. I mean, there's so much good stuff from the past still avai- lable and most of the new stuff actually sucks, just as mentioned. On top of that the retro train is rolling : whenever my neighbour's kids have a party, they listen to 90s hits samplers. - Why is that? 😂😂 Thanks for reminding us of all the good stuff, Dude!
I like Don the Dragon Wilson and also think hé is ad age but still sport every day, that needs respect and not get challenge by someone that wants to fight because it looks good on his record. Greetings from the Netherlands 🥋 OSU 🥋
I respect Don but with all due respect me training with Pat Miletich's camp from where Matt came from, i can garuntee you that Matt Hughs would absolutely murk Don Wilson worse than what he did to Ryoce Gracie. Matt was a beast back then ! It honestly; again with all due respect won't even be a fight. Deep down Don knows that too which is why he never stepped in the octagon ever.
I have nothing but respect for Don and I have been on his side the whole time during this debate on whether Qissi or Van Damme woluld beat him in a kickboxing match. That said, i must point out that Don has continually brought up that they don't really know his background when they speak on his credentials and he must be held to that same standard that he himself has set. Matt was a 2 time D1 All American. His collegiate wrestling record was something like 113-18. Don did not ever wrestle at a higher level than him and saying that he did only shows his ignorance to what he really would have been signing up for
Kind of like when NCAA Division I Champion, Mark Coleman got schooled by Maurice Smith. Right? Many, many people who comment on these boards don't understand the level of Fight IQ athletes like Maurice Smith, Don Wilson, or a Manson Gibson had. Especially a Don Wilson with a background in collegiate wrestling. Matt Hughes would have gotten KOed by Wilson. Why? Similar (but much better) to when Smith fought Coleman, Wilson would nullify any take-down attempt, but much better than Maurice was capable of, and would either landed one huge shot on Hughes, or crippled him with leg kicks. If for any lucky reason Hughes could take him down it wouldn't amount to anything as Wilson has more than enough wrestling experience to protect himself and get back into a striking opportunity.
So jealous you get to work out with one of the greatest kickboxers of all time and call him your friend. Would love to have don as a mentor. Hey Viking samurai, what is your martial arts background
Don vs Matt would have been a massacre. If Don thinks that his sidekicks would take care of Hughes, he is sadly mistaken. Don vs Royce would have been an interesting fight to see, I think that Royce would have won but Don would have stood a small chance against him.
Awww Don You were doing so well.... Then came the Matt Hughes stuff. I'm sorry I've no doubt you would give it your best shot and with the utmost respect for your kickboxing career... but at the time you were talking about Matt Hughes finishes that one fast. Hypothetically speaking of course.
That's the ultimate goal. As far as The Last Kumite, that has a lot of potential. I have a few different ideas and scripts in mind for movies and several people I'm already working with in various stages of development.
Royce was pretty old in that fight. Don was equally pretty old by that point lol. But essentially if Don has enough wrestling to avoid a takedown then he could’ve won
Don Wilson talking about Matt Hughes does not add up. First he said that Matt was a high school wrestler. Matt was a division 1 college wrestler. So Don got the offer to fight Matt in 2006? That would have made Don about 52 and Matt about 33 I have a hard to believing that Dana White would offer a fight to a guy that is 52 who may not have even been approved by the athletic commision.
I like Don Wilson but I do think at his advanced age, he is a revisionist history extraordinaire. Puffs up his wrestling background and saying he would beat Matt Hughes? No way. We will never find out and he needs to let things go

thats assuming he could get the takedown. Don had the strikers chance to KO Hughes. Don was wrong, yes Matt was alot higher level than he stated...but remember GSP was not even a high school wrestler.
