I tied mine up to the basketball post. The shadow of the backboard is protecting it from the majority of sunlight. However I got to this video because I've noticed that there is a mild tear in this resistance band. I've had this guy for 15 years and never had trouble with it before. since it is torn a little bit there's nothing I can do besides decresing the resistence of it (stepping forward). Just waiting for that day to happen like an old dog.
this is my fear. I have a set of bands and I can't even bring myself to fully stretching them in fear of them snapping and break my eyeballs. which makes my workout totally ineffective
When it snaps, it flies towards the handles. Happened to me and mostly just made me jump. Not sure how it would make it to your eye, maybe after bouncing off your hand but it wouldn't be so severe by that point.
I take advantage of the stackable nature of these bands. If I feel I’m not getting enough tension at the 2x mark I add on a band to increase the tension. These bands are great cause they have the built in safety features so the bad won’t snap back and hurt you.
Agree, another reason why they snap is when you stand on them for example for shoulder press and you move your feet, or if there is gravel behind them, also, anchoring them in rough surfaces DESTROYS them in no time!
Thanks, I know how to impress the ladies now. "Sure, this is the heaviest one. Oh no, it snapped!" Cheers for the video though, I was wondering what the people on amazon reviews were doing wrong when they complained the bands snapped. Now I know.
Hi again Blake, I thought I should mention that my Spinal Surgeon is completely in agreement with my exercising especially using the resistance bands. thanks Rosemary
I bought both flat bands and tube bands from Undersun and LIfeline respectively. I found that the flat bands were killing my hands so got the tube ones and now do many of the things I was doing with the flat bands but I still use the flat ones too. Lifeline's handles rotate at the grip which is great but it's when you go up in resistance the heavier bands is hard to get in and out of the handle until you learn the trick. I found both excellent and the instructors very good. My gym days are over because I can do at home virtually everything I was doing there.
How long do they last. I just had a blue band break doing triceps extensions. The band was about 3 years old though. I only used them a couple months during this time, as I usually go to the gym. This is one of the extra heavy ones. It hit me in the face. It really felt like getting punched in the jaw. I'm just lucky I didn't get anything but a sprained jaw. It really hurt though!
He talks about a special band with a wire filament that prevents the band from breaking. What kind of bands are these with the wire? What are they called.
I am always scared of doing exercises where I am pulling the band towards myself at the eye-length because I fear that the band may snap and hit my face or into the eyes causing serious damage. How do I overcome this fear? Do you have any tips to start working out with a resistance band in the safest way possible? Please note that I just started resistance training and my bands are new. I do not have any experience in resistance training.
Was using one while working on ladder drills. It snapped on me. It hurt so bad I can’t even explain it. Worse then a fracture, or sprain. Or even a strain. Super painful and embarrassing lol
Sad life I can’t go to the gym and it seems these bands are life risking or at least will seriously injure you... I don’t know about using them in front of me but from the back I think I can wear a backpack 🎒 to protect myself will it work?
And of course allow for serations too....so working out outdoors....be aware that small stones WILL serate the elastic which later under resistance at that point snap...prolong by not stretching at the serated areas or better still...try hard not to serate the elastic.
He said he has his band threaded through a large what? Ethura anchor? What term do I put in on Amazon to get one? What about a simpler, cheaper one that is just a small circle of a cloth band?
All sport carries risk. Got the gym and drop some weights. Go running and twist an ankle. My understanding was bodylastics have an inner lining that reduces risks.
I bought the 3 band pack that modells sold. I did like it but i snapped the blue and black band within a month. I thought that happened because they were cheap. This info is good so when i buy a expensive band I know they have a tendency to snap to and i can avoid snapping them.
I have a question. My band is black(flat band) and it just got dull like greyish. This happened in the few days I didn't use it at all and i thought it might be dusty but it didn't come off. I'm not a frequent user and never stretched anywhere near the full either. I always use it indoors but can it be due to the heat/humidity or something as they seem to be working fine and I can't see cracks or anything..
Is there any way to condition(with some type of oil) my braided Reebok resistance band? It's a couple of years old but hasn't been used that often. Rather than get a new 1 rn, I'd want to restore it to a functioning condition 1st before stretching it/ using again. Btw, the rubber looks a bit like it's dried out and dull so if there's a specific type of oil like peanut, coconut, olive, sesame.. or just WD-40 I'd really appreciate the help 😀
You could probably just use coconut or Olive oil and make it look nicer but I doubt it'll make it any more effective. If the band has stretch marks on it, you'd probably just want to get a new one or risk having it snap on you. 😬
the bands I got were just too weak to use individually so I put all 6 of them together. Im a little worried now because months of use later they are starting to look like they have a white powder on them and are dull in appearance. What does this mean?
Iban didn't break. What happened was there was that Loop that you put the band through and then you can put the other side of that loop on the other side of the hinge in your door and went in you shut the door. What happened was it somehow wasn't in there tight enough and hit me in the back.
Hi Blake I have been emailing Robyn from Bodylastics, I live in Perth Western Australia so getting your monthly workout plan is too expensive after conversion bank fees etc. I have purchased the door anchor, handles, ankle straps and 13lb resistance band so I'm wanting the full body muscle building exercises. As I mention to Robyn, I'm 66 and have excellent health except for my spine. I've had fusion L4/5, now the L2/3-3/4 have of course become severely curved. I need to have back, core and leg muscles really strengthened so do you have any videos on line that I can view. I have looked at the biceps, triceps exercises so will be using those to get strong arms as well. all I can say is thank goodness I found your utube site. I have been going to the gym for 18 months and really only gained a very limited muscle tone. So hopefully I will improve out of sight with your help. thanks Rosemary

I want to know (and can't find anywhere) how to make my own resistance bands using tubing and d-rings or clips. Not tying them on (just with a know) but the way they'd be if I was to buy them. All the ones I see for sale are too long and I want to make my own, just as good as if I bought them. Please Help Me??
I ordered Cando tubing. Cut to desired length. Bought 12 - 13mm marbles. Placed tubes through hole in handle straps. Next stage.... Put small drop of concentrated washing up liquid onto marble and forced marble into tubing about 3/4 inch. Waited.... then used cotton bud to wipe out excess washing liquid. Lastly..... Put two tiny drops of Superglue into tube on edge of marbles. I have created four new creations of different resistance tubing into my regime. The marbles never come out. PERFECT.
hi there, may i ask how can i check what is the stretch power on the resistance bands? i bought a resistance band for a store and there was nothing written on the package
Color isn't a good indicator. You need to look at who makes the band and look at what colors are for their resistances. Some companies actually put a weight equivalance on their bands... Like I have a set of the Bodylastics and they have lbs written on the connector cuffs.
I just bought the bands today, I was trying different things, it snapped and hit me on my forehead :/ that's why I am here :-D haha I have fear of snapping even just 1 time stretching .

You would think anything that heavy wouldn't snap... at least not in the first six months you own it. A whole article in Journal of American Medicine about Covid home workout eye injuries from elastic bands. Wear goggles or glasses just to be sure you are safe.
Bands also need to be lubricated with grease that has silicone...do not use vegetable oils or anything of that nature...just like the human skin, we get dry, what does our skin do? skin starts to peel and crack, gives you an open wound in severe dryness. So make sure you're lubricating your resistance bands as well

Don't expose them to sunlight, store them in the pouch. Eventually any brand will snap over time. They will not last forever.
Thanks for the tips.
