- Have you heard about the beta version of the AWS s3 connector for Tableau? It now supports CSV and Excel files through the connector. If you're interested, I go through the features, how it works, and how to install it.
You can find the connector here: exchange.tableau.com/products...

Hi Tim. Nice intro (to the S3 connector) indeed. For the UK Postcodes to be drawn on a map, you may want to add a string calc 'UK' (with the Country Geo-role) to Details.
Nice tip. Interesting how this isn’t necessary on desktop though but makes sense when you explain it. Wish I’d thought of that as a workaround.
Great video! Thanks for this😊 I added the downloaded connector file to the tableau repository. However, the connector still doesn’t show up on Tableau desktop in spite of restarting or uninstalling and installing application back again.
Hello Tim,
Thanks for posting this video.
I am using Tableau Online and want to know how we can archive the workbooks to AWS S3 if user is not accessing his workbooks more than 70 days.
If we add new data in that file which we already in s3 bucket, is it reflected in the tableau dashboard
Hi Tim, Im trying to use s3 using csv file as my data source but Im getting an error stating to [SQLSTATE:22P02] too many columns in input file.
Tried to lessen the numbee of columns to found out that It can only handle 6 columns. Any idea how to increase the number of columns?
By the way Im using Tableau 2024.1.2
Hi Tim, how is the global usage of tableau? Currently less openings on this tableau tool in my Area (Bangalore).
Hi Tim, do you have any tips or advice in studying for the Tableau Server Certified Associate? There's not much resources regarding this and I'm quite lost right now.
This is a tricky exam. Can I ask are you being asked to sit the exam or do you feel it’s necessary? I’ve been considering the value of skulking up on server as it’s very clear Tableau are mostly focussed on cloud so unless you’re heading into a maintenance role where you need this certification it might be good to wait and let the certification landscape settle down. I’ve also covers it in my video titled how to learn tableau. The exam is also been in flux with slot of change but let me know what particular challenge you’re having. I’d also suggest to ensure you have hands on time with the server product I don’t think it’s easy to pass the exam without some hands on time doing some of the activities the exam would ask you answer questions on.
Hi Tim, have you had any experience trying it with images/videos?
As I’m image files in s3 ? This wouldn’t work strictly speaking as image roles load images from the web so you could have a data source in s3 with a column referencing the public url for images stored on s3 and that should work but I’m not sure you can just point it a bucket with just images. It needs a csv and excel file
hello, tested that connection feature but didt`n connect to excel files in aws s3. just connected to csv files.
Glad it wasn’t just me. ✌🏾

What will be the calculated field if condition is as below,
Case contains 12 columns Jan to December and one column YTD Calc having aggregations.
Condition:
When YTD Calc is equal to median then median of non empty values from Jan to dec, when YTD Calc is equal to average then average of non empty values from Jan to dec, When YTD Calc is equal to cumulative then sum of non empty values from Jan to dec,When YTD Calc is equal to most recent then most recent non empty values from Jan to dec.
This question isn’t related to this video and I certainly can’t turn comments into a support desk. Tableau forums might be a better platform to ask this sort of question and I recommend you try a calculation you think should work then someone helping you rather than just giving you the answer can explain where your understanding might be going wrong so you can self help next time.
can we change the column names, how to use multiple csv files from s3 without joining
Assume you mean union them if they were all the same otherwise you’d use another data prep solution to bring the data together. Recommend you google your specific question in relation to s3 and querying s3 files as it’s possible to run sql commands on files on s3.
@@TableauTim if we change the column names in tableau, is it stays changed or it creates any problem?
Thank you
no your changing the metadata not the actual data. Tableau is read only even in Tableau prep. You only ever change the outcome never the actual source even if you write a SQL query, its read only.
