consider putting the power strip for the chargers on a timer to run an hr a nite so they aren’t charging 24/7. I have heard of chargers causing fires in the past. Great vid wish i was closer to give you a hand.
Jay instead of using a pan to catch the dust from the miter saw use a thick plastic clear bag and use a twist tie to hold it on when you move it to a different position to catch the dust that way the dust will be in the bag .
Jay, if you can re-route the tube to the chop saw to underneath the bench and into the bottom of the plastic bowl then the suction would catch and remove 99% of the sawdust ❤
What I love about you and the whole Perkins crew is you don't get precious and try to create "the ultimate miter station" like so many of the YT shop crowd. Just something basic that works and lets you work. Always love your videos!
38:14 My favorite moment of your best video: "Well, look at THAT, it's the same size as THAT. Well, THAT's pretty cool. I didn't even realize THAT!" Jason, you're so cool.
Jay, look into grounding your vacuum hoses. Lots of static electricity builds up and wood dust goes up in flames pretty easy. It's a simple as drilling a screw halfway into some plastic housing and running a copper wire to a ground.
Just found your channel after you mentioned it on an older Perkins video from a year ago. Will be looking for your future videos and feel free to include dog and goat guests on the program.
Hey Jay, Wonderful job with your side shed, the black color looks cool. Ever since you started with Ray I have been watching all your videos. One thing I would like to mention that is not related to construction, is that you kind of look like Pablo Schreiber the actor who plays Spartan Master Chief on the Halo TV show. When I watch the show and he is on, it reminds me of you. That is how I see it, maybe other people will see you differently. Keep it the Jay’s way.
I forgot what those DeWalt Portable Benches look like new. I've used mine for everything from an outfeed table, painting table, cabinet assembly table, and a miter saw stand. You name it, the possibilities are endless with them. And when you need to use them outside the shop, they're simple to move. One warning Jay, make sure when you are opening them that the legs are facing away from you, or else you'll be singing soprano. Haha. Thanks for the vids.
Excellent Jay, your new workshop looks bloody swish as, well organized, and functional. Pepe the goat turning up was a laugh, the goat must have come to check out your handiwork lol. Cheers for the reel.
DeWalt needs to send you a vertical air compressor …. Jay get a retractable extension cord to hang above your Saw in the middle of the room as your power source for your Saw and your planer
Love the new shop. A suggestion, i added a retractable 75’ extension cord reel to my shop and its amazing. Power anywhere you need it. I’ve also put all my big tools on platforms with casters. Miter sawstand , table saw, planer, all on casters. Makes life much easier.
Jay! Amazing job buddy. Glad I found your channel along side the Perkins channel. It’s a great compliment to see you doing your own thing and you’re doing great. Good job with the ads too. Keep it up!
plenty of room under your chopsaw bench for cabinets 2 put your smaller items/tools, would you need to box in the sawdust collectors they seem 2b abit loud/noisy,great to see you moving in the right direction, like u love a new build in the shop,i can cu changing a few bits ,cheers from the uk
I’m not sure if you know it or not but some of us don’t watch your videos to learn about building but for the entertainment of watching you learn the hard way. Lol.
Another option for making 45’s easy is just add the thickness of the material twice, as in 1-1/2” material add 3” to the shorts and you know your longs unquestionably. My go to for door casings. I used to try at measuring shorts but the math is so easy and cuts simpler if you know your longs, or sharps maybe the more common phrasing.
You want to see if you can get hold of some second hand kitchen units and worktop for your mitre saw table. You could have one worktop running the length of the shop with a cut out for the saw. It would keep level a lot easier and give you a load more storage in all the units underneath.
You should swap the table saw and planer locations. The planer seems to be a more permanent piece with the stand you made for it, whereas the portable table saw if you wanted to move it, you have to move hoses and pull it out from between two permanent pieces. Just a thought.
The workshop is really coming together. Glad to see another video Jay. I no you're working with the P.Brothers. make more videos.i so enjoy watching you like the P.Bros. way to go Jay. Genius 👍
Jason, handy tip is to number your batteries. First you always know how many you take/pack down every day, but you can work them in order so you never kill just one of them by over working it. Also if you are working them hard like on a grinder or high demand tool and eating your way through them you always know what's on charge and where you are in your line up so you have a better chance of running all day without waiting for charge times. You should just make a timer box for the chop saw swarf, also it will work better if you pull air from the bottom and get a free gravity assist. The shop is looking dialed in mate, huge upgrade and you should be proud!!
I wouldn’t drop a power lead down from the ceiling, it’ll get in the way swinging materials around. I’d put another outlet on a different circuit next to the dust extractor 👍🏻
Great job with the shop. Love your channel . Friendly suggestion if you flip the box behind the chop saw let the dust collector suck the dust from bottom it will work more efficient . Gravity helps ..
I'd just attach that DeWalt vacuum up to the miter saw for now until you can figure out a better solution to your dust collector. The vacuum hose off that will be much closer to the size of the miter saw. Also some extension chord reels would be amazing for that table saw and planer you could have one that attached to the ceiling in the center of the room and whenever you need the table saw or planer just pull the chord down and plug in whichever tool you want to use
Looks great Jayson. I'm sure those oil stains are bothering you. I mentioned the "Polock Broom" a few episodes ago. Get a 2X4 and some Oil-Dri. Sprinkle the Oil-Dri on the spots. Take the 2X4 block and scrub the Oil-Dri on the stains. This does 2 things. It crushes those big particles of absorbent. Then those fine particles gets down into the porous surface of the concrete. In 2-3 minutes the stain will be gone. We had a 4X4 with a broom handle screwed in at a 45. That's what we called the "Polock Broom".
I always put double duplex receptacles for any workbench electrical boxes. You Always need more places to plug in, without adding plug strips or extension cords! Just a thought.
That is looking amazing - great job on the finish! I've not been commenting, but just as a heads up, when you ever do any painting, make sure you do it right under those lights.
I bought a neat trick device from Amazon. It is an outlet that turns on your vacuum when you start a tool that is ready for dust collection. I use it with my table saw and my surface planer. The device has two places to plug things into. ' A' is for your tool, 'B' is for your vacuum. The vacuum starts when you power up your tool and then runs for 7 seconds after you turn your tool off. It only cost $35, much cheaper than buying a vacuum with the device build in. I didn't attach it to my slide miter saw. I have tried many ways to capture the dust from the miter saw and the best way I have found is to put a trash barrel under my miter saw bench. I did build a cowl to help direct the sawdust.
My studies indicate a typical wood worker starts with a table saw as the main focus. Then a miter saw. Then a planer. Then a jointer. After that enters either non-powered hand tools and then specialty tools.
Thanks for a great video. You surprised me with the length of this, I started watching with my husband at breakfast but had to stop half way and finished it without him during my lunch break 😂. Great set ups, I'm sure as you use them you will modify, it's never ending 😉 . Loved the visit from the goat and dog, Charlie and those lights. Enjoy your workshop
Glad you stopped that circular saw when you did, with no push stick in sight all I could think of was “Jamie’s hand”. I actually think about that every time I turn on my circular saw or planer.
Shop is coming along nicely! For the power for your table saw and planer just get a retractable extension cord reel and mount it on the ceiling right between the garage doors and you can pull it down and plug in both appliances but if you need to you can always retract it back to the ceiling.
Awesome job Jay! Love the shop and how it’s not a “cookie cutter” shop that looks too perfect to use! You can tell that it’s a shop that would be fun to hang out in and drink some beer and make cool things for fun! 👍
On the chop saw suction. Try sucking from below as the 2" suction hose isn't large enough to overcome gravity. But either way youll need to make a more pecise box and add a lip to the bottom edge of the box to catch the dust the hose doesn't. Hope that makes sence
“Thanks to Keeps for sponsoring this video! Head to keeps.com/JAYSWAY to get a special offer.”
My shelf would have been higher than that if that goat came in on me! Best laugh i have had in a long time. I cried tears! 😂
consider putting the power strip for the chargers on a timer to run an hr a nite so they aren’t charging 24/7. I have heard of chargers causing fires in the past. Great vid wish i was closer to give you a hand.
Pro tip.
Jay instead of using a pan to catch the dust from the miter saw use a thick plastic clear bag and use a twist tie to hold it on when you move it to a different position to catch the dust that way the dust will be in the bag .
You really need to put the dust collector in your new shed. It will give you more space in the shop and reduce the noise.
Yeah that would be good but not enough room. I should have thought of that 1st.
Hey man, for your miter saw, run your vacuum hose from the bottom! Love the channel, you've been doing great.
Yeah heard that. I might have to give it a tey
The short to short 10 1/4 fence idea is actually really handy and something I have not thought about before
Jay, if you can re-route the tube to the chop saw to underneath the bench and into the bottom of the plastic bowl then the suction would catch and remove 99% of the sawdust ❤
Great episode
What I love about you and the whole Perkins crew is you don't get precious and try to create "the ultimate miter station" like so many of the YT shop crowd. Just something basic that works and lets you work. Always love your videos!
that was the quickest 45 mins in a while. Lots of good ideas and pro tips. Well done Jay.
You may be better off moving the dust collector on the miter saw to the bottom using elbows as dust sucks more from the bottom.
The product placement is staggering Jay.... Dewalt tools startegically placed everywhere 😂
38:14 My favorite moment of your best video: "Well, look at THAT, it's the same size as THAT. Well, THAT's pretty cool. I didn't even realize THAT!" Jason, you're so cool.
39:38 and all the fancy carpenter vocabulary he's using now he's a big RUclipsr: 'the ever so slightly little nib of the wood" Whaaaatttt??😄
Love 🎉your videos. So much fun to watch you…
Yay! Thank you!
Love his style. Nothing has to be fancy just functional
Jay i meant use a zip tie to hold the bag on the miter saw keep up the good work.
Awesome transformation, new subscriber Aloha from Alaska
should of painted the ceiling first - Black that would look absolute awesome.
Love when goats show up out of no where! lol!
Looking good Jay!
You did good on that shop
@BuiIding_Jays_Way I live in South Carolina, so I’m not too far
Jay, look into grounding your vacuum hoses. Lots of static electricity builds up and wood dust goes up in flames pretty easy. It's a simple as drilling a screw halfway into some plastic housing and running a copper wire to a ground.
We used to give our wide belt sander dust to a pyrotechnics guy cuz it's so incendiary😉 I've never known anyone that didn't ground their hoses.
Nice
The goat 😂 16:34
Nice Jay!! Have fun!
Thanks! Will do!
Jason do a 1 year review and show us any changes you've made after using and learning the new shop...we all will like to see that
That would be awesome.
I'm liking ur lights in the garage hey good build ur doing I watch u guys all the time
Put rollers on that work table so you can move it around
Just found your channel after you mentioned it on an older Perkins video from a year ago. Will be looking for your future videos and feel free to include dog and goat guests on the program.
Glad you stuck to your word about the fire.
Jay, great job on the shop - looking good. Lots of great ideas I can implement into my shop. Thanks man!
Nice job, Jay . Wish i could walk in my garage, let alone put all my tools in it like you did.
The inch monster visits me sometimes too but i never had a goat visit. Enjoyed your video. You and the lads take care.
Go Jay 💪💪💪
Nice!!!

really proud of you Jay, looks great
Yet again you are the best….kudos on the way you share the reality of diy….love every second you are on!
Thanks so much 😊

Looks great! One recommendation is use 4” hose until the very last inch. These DCs aren’t great with smaller hoses.
Keeps should have been the sponsor for your roofing videos. I could have sworn you were talking about "nail pattern boldness" there.😂
Ha ha!!!
Oxfords is materials is so much more expensive but the people in there are so cool
Great start jay. Best part of having a shop is to always keep changing it to make it better for your needs great stuff
On the chopsaw red dust catcher (tub), maybe turn the tub around so the suction tube attaches from the bottom. More hassle but it might work better.
That is what everybody is saying. I may give that a try.
I’m not sure if you know it or not but some of us don’t watch your videos to learn about building but for the entertainment of watching you learn the hard way. Lol.
Yup, I was screaming at my phone....lol. Your shop turned out nice! Y'all take care.

Jay, my mom would approve of the shop. We bought power tools for her for gifts. She loved working with wood.
Maybe you can move the distribution box for your chargers to the right and up, so it won't interfer with stuff you rip down.
Jason, handy tip is to number your batteries. First you always know how many you take/pack down every day, but you can work them in order so you never kill just one of them by over working it. I actually enjoyed this series. You did a fantastic job.
those Dewalt foldup benches are very good some of the best out .
I wouldn’t drop a power lead down from the ceiling, it’ll get in the way swinging materials around. I’d put another outlet on a different circuit next to the dust extractor 👍🏻
Good idea.
hey, great vid, but just to let u know, those lights will turn yellow over time, c ya next time, cant wait!
Wow jay i can see your garage from here! I live in CT. looks great!
Outlet from above dude. Nice work!
Job wel done 👌
Great shop setup Jay. Wish i had one like it. Love your work.
Great job with the shop. Love your channel . Friendly suggestion if you flip the box behind the chop saw let the dust collector suck the dust from bottom it will work more efficient . Gravity helps ..
Yes, I am hearing a lot of that. I think I may try it. Thanks for the pro tip.

Excellent Pro-tip! Better watch out Jay, Jamie might come use your shop now its ballin so hard! Shop's looking great my man!

looks wicked for a working workshop.

👏👏👏💯💯💯DANG! You’re like a real life pro! …. U don’t just play one on TV LOLOL. Love it!
Let’s not get crazy! Lol

Screws are the right choice. Honestly I prefer them in most applications that they are allowed.
Awesome , I know the feeling.
Great video. Shop turned out brilliant. Great tools. Look forward to the content your going to build now.

Check out Spencer Lewis insider carpentry. He has that dust hood thing that is sweet!
My studies indicate a typical wood worker starts with a table saw as the main focus. Then a miter saw. Then a planer. Then a jointer. After that enters either non-powered hand tools and then specialty tools.
I Shortened all my charger cords with new ends to make them custom😄
Great Job Jaybo!

Great improvement Jay. a lot of learning always. me being a beginner. thanks again man.
Looking good, lightning very impressive 👍
Thanks 👍
Looking good Jay! Big time upgrades, well deserved too. Good shop for a good man
Appreciate that! Thanks for watching.
