  • If your baby is experiencing wind, tummy issues or any other ‘colicky’ type symptoms, changing your diet can make a big difference. But it’s also extremely important for your nutritional needs to be met - which can be hard if you’re doing an extreme anti-colic diet.
While breastfeeding we have high nutritional needs so we don’t want to be removing nutrient dense foods unless we need to. This is why I recommend my clients start a less extreme anti- colic diet as a trial.
Dairy wheat and soy are 3 of the high allergen foods that I recommend removing and in my experience are what gives the most relief for babies once removed from diet - that’s a great place to start. It won't impact your nutrition (it may even make your diet healthier!)
For me personally, both of my babies started to show colic symptoms at a few weeks old and removing Wheat and Dairy made a huge difference. It wasn’t necessary for me to remove the huge list of foods that many anti-colic diets promote (which I did do temporarily - it was a disaster!).
Other common foods to look at are vegetables in the brassica family (cabbage, broccoli etc), onions and garlic. You may want to make a note if you eat anything different and your baby has a noticeable reaction.

something I want to highlight as well is that it's not always a reaction food some other things to look at which are very helpful:
Infant probiotics can be helpful in restoring the balance of good bacteria and easing digestive symptoms, particularly for c-section babies or those who have received antibiotics.
Chiropractic care is gentle and effective for colic! Also seeking advice from a lactation consultant to assess latch. It all depends on you and your baby as we're all individual.
I know it can be extremely overwhelming and exhausting having a baby with colic so if you feel like you need extra help, reach out to a health practitioner. You’ve got this!
If you’re interested in breastfeeding nutrition, Part 1 covers what foods to focus on and how to easily get the extra nutrients you need.

Your blood makes your food. THEN BABY EATS WHAT YOU EAT. Their systems are not able to handle all adult foods. What we eat goes to baby. Spicy food or dairy products or processed foods will cause avid reflux, hours of crying and missery.

I'm sorry you're going through that - I know it's really hard. I only recommend trialling elimination of the most common culprits so you don't restrict your nutrition (lots of recipes on my website) and if still no improvement looking into other avenues and seeking help from a lactation consultant, Chiro or osteo.I have another video (Part 1) on what I recommend to eat while breastfeeding you might find helpful. Hope things improve for you soon x Michala

I have 5 children. I eliminated to varying extents with my first 4. I never saw a significant difference. This time, with baby number 5, I just eat food because I get super hungry and life is already hard juggling life let alone worrying about what to eat. I personally think colic and tummy issues for babies have more to do with them having an under developed stomach. Their stomach isnt really sealed until they are 6 months old, anyway.
