I definitely have an oversupply and forceful flow. When my four-year-old was a baby she couldn’t tolerate breast-feeding because she would get so gassy and was so upset all the time. I tried pumping some milk off before breast-feeding as directed by lactation specialist and like you said my supply increased and it didn’t help at all. She also had two lip ties and a tongue tie, but the pediatrician didn’t want to clip them and said she would break them on her own when she was learning how to walk. But that didn’t help at all with our breast-feeding journey because her latch wasn’t good at all and added to her gas and being upset all the time. So I made the decision to switch to formula which is three months old. Which was also a struggle.- she had battery reactions to every formula we tried. Soy-based formula broke her out in hives. Similac Alimentum worked but only if it was the ready-to-feed formula. My second baby is 5 months old right now and is handling my forceful Flow so much better this time. Side note: my pediatrician this time around told me that he more things they try eating before 6 months of age decreases the chance of having food allergies in the future. so we started at four months. But baby food hasn’t replaced any feedings at all as directed by his pediatrician. Your channel has helped me so much this time around with my over supply/ fast flow. Thank you for making these educational videos
Have you seen the three part series on forceful let down/over supply? I’ll link that here for you to watch. The first video just helpes you identify it (which you already have) and the second one is the main video that helps to get it under control. Every baby will handle it differently. Some babies have a lot of trouble and for others, it’s barely noticeable. You will have this condition with every baby though. It’s often diagnosed, that the baby has tongue and lip ties. In those cases when the release is done, it usually doesn’t solve the problem . We can’t know for sure, but my guess is that if that doctor would have done the procedure, it probably wouldn’t have mattered. As far as starting solids at four months, that has become a common suggestions from pediatricians, but I would look into that further. I don’t know why they started to suggest that when the Academy of pediatrics, world, health, organization, and others, don’t recommend that at all. The best way to know if baby is ready for solids is if you see ALL of the signs of readiness. Breast-feeding has been found to reduce chances of allergies a bit. I suspect my 4 month old has a dairy allergy. I do think I have an oversupply. When I am at work I pump twice (every 3-3.5 hrs) and get a total of 13-15 oz. Overnight my boobs get rock hard and the one baby isn't nursing on leaks like crazy. I definitely have a forceful letdown. My baby occasionally has tiny blood specks in her poo

Thank you so much for the informative video! Our son is currently in the 1st percentile and had a lost a lb the day after he was born so I was immediately told to pump and supplement with pumped milk and donor milk which led me to have somewhat of an oversupply during his first month. Unfortunately in his first two months of life he went from about the 5th to the 1st percentile in weight (he is EBF with one pumped bottle before bed). Is it possible that this oversupply caused him to be full from my foremilk and led to him not getting enough calories?? His latch has improved drastically in the last two weeks and I’m making sure to do breast compressions and fully empty each breast now when we nurse and I usually pump 5-6oz for his nightly bottle. Am I on the right track? Our ped has us worried that I need to start supplementing with formula and has even suggested adding cereal to bottles which I would really prefer to avoid. Thank you so much in advance for your help! I will watch more of your videos on this topic!
Is baby 2 months old now? Adding cereal to baby’s bottle is in my opinion, an outdated practice. I would personally get a second opinion from a different pediatrician. And find a lactation counselor right away. Hopefully one that understands, Forceful letdown/over supply and how to get the condition under control with things like block feeding. It sounds like you could have a forceful letdown/over supply. I’ll link my videos on that here for you. The 1st video will help you to determine if that’s the case. When a mom has this condition, baby is sometimes a high weight gainer but more often, they are a low weight gainer. You’re right about it being from foremilk but please don’t try to pump more milk to get baby to more hind milk. This will only make more milk and more foremilk. How many wet diapers is baby having every 24 hours? How is baby doing with tummy issues, extra gassy, green foamy or gel like poops? Watch these videos and tell me what you think. ❤️ Forceful Letdown and Oversupply ruclips.net/p/PLbqc4bXQcbyUzyNxG-w7tBtKLWA3NpzLe
Hi! Thanks for this video. It taught me so much. Our pediatrician just recommended that I eliminate dairy, so I did a few days ago. We haven’t tested baby’s stool yet, but will soon. My questions to you are- Can baby still have a happy/calm demeanor overall and have a dairy allergy? Can forceful letdown contribute to a baby being congested? She is 7 weeks old and has been congested since birth basically!
I’m not a doctor but I have seen different degrees of dairy allergies/sensitivity, so I would think that baby can seem happy and well. If forceful let down/over supply is the issue, every baby handles it differently, some have lots of problems, and some seem to only have minor issues. It’s still totally fine to try cutting dairy for a bit. It can take up to 21 days for it to leave your system. Most moms can slowly add it back in later without it being an issue for baby. If the problem is from a forceful, let down/over supply, cutting down on lactose, can help a little because mom’s with this condition, have such a huge lactose overload in their milk. If it is truly a dairy allergy, then going lactose free won’t make a difference because it’s the protein in the dairy that is the problem. I am not at all sure about the stuffy nose, but I would think that that could be a problem. I think that I would personally ask to see an ear nose, and throat doctor if the allergy specialist didn’t find an issue. Do you believe that you have a forceful let down/over supply? Are there any other symptoms besides the stuffy nose?
@@marycahillclc thanks so much for the thoughtful response! I do believe I have a forceful letdown. She sometimes chokes on it/pull off during letdown. I had the same issue with my first daughter. I try to nurse in a laidback position whenever possible. I’m not too sure if I have an oversupply. I don’t think that I do, but I do use the haakaa a couple of times each morning along with exclusively nursing my daughter just to build a freezer stash. I get around 4-6 ounces per day from the haakaa usually. I don’t pump at all. Do you think cutting out the haakaa use would help? Her symptoms have been lots of mucus in her stool (no visible blood, but we’re going go get it tested), sometimes very watery stool with mucus, often green in color, and a bit of a congested nose since birth. She is overall very happy and calm. She does have days where she grunts quite a bit, and her stools have slowed down quite a bit this last week (she still goes at least once per day). She will be 8 weeks old in a few days.
@@taylamay8792 if you have a forceful letdown, you have at least a bit of an oversupply. You’ll have the condition with every baby but some will handle it better. Thank you so much!! This is so helpful. I had no idea that FL/OS could lead to blood in the stool. Is this because of the increase in lactose? I will watch those videos. I appreciate you!!
@@taylamay8792 yes, it’s likely from the large amount of lactose because mom has so much foremilk but it can also be from how fast baby is receiving the milk.
My 2 month old baby having rash all over body face and rash looks like goosebumps is this allergy or eczema ? I started eliminating food from diet also his poop having very little mucus now its 2 months i am facing this problem
I’m not sure if that’s an allergic reaction but it’s unlikely to be from something you’re eating. More often it’s something topical, like baby wash, lotion or laundry soap. Applying breastmilk or adding breastmilk to baby’s bath water can be helpful. I would talk to your doctor about it.❤️
