Bought the same 40g at a PetSmart.
Yes, the doors are HELLA cheap and can break if you brute them.
I think the top screens are cheap too but they are very fine so lighting and heating have been good.
Seems to be working well for my 2 rescue leos
Love that you put your Leo’s in them let’s go! Yeah I wish they were more stronger as well
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse yeah I’m thinking of picking up the 20gallon they’re selling for $80 for my newest Leo rescue.
They’re not top of the line but they’re a good beginner/budget value front door tanks. Deff saving my shoulder tbh lol
Your the best my friend. I e learned so much from watching your videos.

Awesome thanks for the awesome content. Always helpful. I got the ECO FLEX 2x4x2 that you recommend, Ted is getting bigger so i think im going to switch his to a bioactive.
Happy to help! Definitely bioactive is very fun to look at and make!
Well i just bought one of the kits from BIODUDE they where really helpful cost a bit but should be worth it for Ted@@ChiefSweetsUniverse

I'd love to see a video or even a short about what kind of plants can co-habit with bearded dragons in a bioactive tank
Yes working on that right now trying to get it finished
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse awesome!! Can't wait
I just found out about Zen Habitat enclosures and I’m excited to see if they’re worth it. So disappointed in Petsmart prices and almost all their reptile enclosures are kits. Thanks for your advice on the lighting really needed help
Hiya Cheif. I got my latest bearded dragon just over a week ago. I can't recall how old they are when you get them, but yes, I got her from a big box store after losing my 2 year old. But to get to it. I have another, older one, that I think is a male (flashlight and visually, appears to be). This little one, she's 15g, so I don't know if that will help you with her age. My 2 year old, who I thought was a female exceeded 600g and my research says a female should only be about 1/2 that. I checked her when she was young, called her as a female and life went on. So I'm getting there. This 15g baby doesn't chew her food, I gave her dubias that were size appropriate and she just swallows them. When a beardie eats, you know it! Crunch crunch crunch, like potato chips! Since my 2 y.o. passed, I learned that their teeth and gums are 1 piece, not like us, where they are separate. My very 1st baby beardie had where her teeth/gums became disconnected from her jaw and I tried syringe feeding her, not knowing this. Then my 2nd that I just had mouth issues with. My question is - should I return her to the store because I have never heard of a beardie not chewing it's food? I feel like if I don't, I am just asking for trouble. Please, try not to judge me. I'm trying my best. I love my beardies, but I couldn't take the heartache again. Thank you!
We started to get a kit at PS but got it home and it was all wrong. Went back for the zoomed front open and everything though it was a bit pricier we got the correct lights etc. kits come with coil bulbs and the double dome light.
Very nice yes it is a tad pricier but at least you start off on the right foot.
Great information as usual! I was thinking having custom size ceramic tile which I know little more costly- for my 120 gallon tank. What is your thoughts?
For people with bad allergies totally but I always go for substrate cause it looks awesome
Are there any budget Solarmeters out there or is the one you use the only one? That ~$250 price tag hearts my heart lol. Appreciate your videos, as always. We've had out Beardie for two months now and have followed your instructions closely.
I wish there was unfortunately that’s the only downside right now there isn’t any budget options
I wanted a dragon so bad no I really think I’m getting one thank u for this advice
Happy to help
Hey man could you please make a video on making a dig box for those without substrate? And include info like what substrate would be best, where in the temp gradient is best to place it?
Working on it as we speak!
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse awesome!
also glass surging can you show us how to remodel it for them to not see reflection? i’m using wallpaper on both sides to limit it but also wondering about the tile
Thank you for clarifying the calcisand, I never knew why it was bad for them..
Is the quikrete playsand ok to use?
Yes I use quikrete all the time wonderful stuff. Happy to help
Your bearded dragon videos are the best!!!
Thank you!
I love this video! I recently got a juvenile bearded dragon and I’ll be honest never had a juvenile. my last was fully grown. any tips? i’ve already learned they’ll try and eat anything in their tank fake plants and all. Do they need additional vitamins? how do i keep them hydrated? i used to mist my old one but that raises humidity. Thanks!!!!
Baths and they will take a sip from your finger
Thanks for the vid. Question: what is wrong with the T8 UVB light???
Thanks
It’s weaker uvb output
I give salad daily? I getting a breaded dragon in a month and I’m building the enclosure. I’m building a 4x2x2 out of hard maple. Should I put a screen on the one I’m building?
My daughter’s dragon is in a 10G tank right now. I hope that is ok for a while. However we did get the ProT5 uvb kit. Is it going to be ok to have it set on top of the tank? We will work on getting a bigger tank later. Turbo is pretty small right now.
you can not properly provide temperature gradiants in anything below a 40 gallon. please purchase a 120 gallon tank as soon as possible.
Hey I'm thinking about getting a bearded dragon and I was wonder should I turn the lights/heat lamp off and night?
Yes all lights off at night
Curious your one video says don’t buy the reptile sun in bulb off Amazon, but you have it as one of your pinned on Amazon. Just looking to purchase is y I ask
Hey I have a question, this is my first bio and was wondering if possible can I use isopods and spring tails i have in my back yard?
--
I live on a ranch and I know for a fact we don't use any pesticides or is it still not safe to use them? 😢😅
Thank you so much for all the info you've given, I'm currently building the 4x2x2 you made a while back, thank you so much again!
Yes you 100% can! That’s awesome to hear! Happy to help
Can I use a UVA basking lamp in addition to my Arcadia UVB strip?
I have a panther chameleon as my first reptile about 9 months old now doing quite well and if always loved bearded dragons and wondered if they were more difficult in terms of husbandry.
Oh no if you got a panther a beardie to me is much easier in terms of husbandry
@ChiefSweetsUniverse that's great to hear I have pretty much nailed husbandry down for my panther chameleon it's just the humidity. For a bearded dragon what's the cycle for their lights and supplements.
@@HosaBosa supplements you can do calcium every insect feeding it’s ok to miss a day don’t worry multivitamins once every two weeks or once a month either one works lights come on sunrise and go off sunset. 7am-7pm usually
@ChiefSweetsUniverse oh ok so it'd the same as a panther chameleon calcium with no d3 every feeding and then calcium with d3 2 times a month. I also give some manuka honey for extra health benefits I'm not sure if besrdies are able to have that and if it would help their immune system.
@ChiefSweetsUniverse ok so for panther chameleon we have our basking bulb one hour on in the morning and one hour on at evening but for bearded dragons it's on all fay 7 am to 7pm.
Question will a basking bulb bust a house bulb putting them together
not about bearded geckos but you e helped me a lot with my leopard gecko these past months. i’m just wondering what i can do to give my gecko more things to do or explore or do things. he liked to burrow like crazy. i just don’t want him to be bored he loves being held and coming out he’s constantly trying to.
Bigger enclosure and more decor is what I usually do.
Can you hook up the thermostat to a timer outlet? Because what if your not home to turn on and off the basking bulb for the night and day cycles?
Yes you can!
Hey mate, sand is an issue for beardies. If they ingest it, which they normally do when eating, then it can clog them up pretty bad as their stomachs can't break it down.
Understand where you’re coming from because the hobby was under the belief that sand was bad due to impaction. However we have now solved that issue and have found out through research from vets and advanced keepers that it wasn’t sand but the husbandry like uvb and temps. Sand is perfectly safe as long as your temps are ok uvb is not coil but a t5 like an Arcadia 12% or zoo med 10.0 t5. Also the beardie is receiving proper supplements like calcium and a multivitamin once Month. Most keepers are starting this way thanks to all the advanced keepers and vets pushing the updated keeping methods.
@ChiefSweetsUniverse hey mate I don't know how they solved the issue, but if the repti sand can break down, then it should be good. I know here in Aus, not too many keepers use sand for this very reason. They'd try different things, and nothing really worked until they changed the substrate altogether. I've only owned a couple to nurse back to good health and released them.
@@callanmurphy9807 it doesn’t really break down as it just passes out when they poop but for sure if not given good uvb which in Australia may be harder to find as there’s only two reliable uvb kits on the market. Mercury vapor bulb might be the 3rd best option however this info comes from the beardie vet as well. He’s also from Australia and has been working with beardies for years
@ChiefSweetsUniverse yeh thought that'd be the same scenario mate. I've never really heard about it. If they've got a big enough dish and they're now constantly ingesting, they're usually fine. Yeh, we do have a few companies that sell good uvb and heat products, though may have to be changed a bit more regularly. I found with the uvb anyway. But as I said I'd really only had a few of them to mend back to health and release.
I take it you're not paying attention. Please do that, instead of talking..
Hello, What I usually do to get my bearded dragon to drink out of the water bowl is I get a mill worm and I put it in the water dish, so that when it gets hungry it will try to eat the worm in the water dish. It’s tricks him into drinking out of the water bowl. But I just have this one question. Should I continue doing this? Also yeah, the thing where you spray water into the enclosure helps to. Thanks!!🙃👍❤️
It’ll be fine to do it out of the water bowl as he might choke if he accidentally gulps in water.
Thanks!
Will you do a reptile room tour? 🎉
Yes 100%
Thank you so much for helping people.❤
No problem! Always trying to help
Is all the light on 24/7 or some lights needs to turn off ? How many hours?
For a sec I thought you was wearing a cradle of filth top 😅 great content am researching as I would like a dragon
Haha great band but nope not a cradle of filth shirt. Also happy to help!
I had everything right except the lighting position, thanks 🤌🏼
My birthday is coming up in a month. I am trying to decide whether I want a bearded dragon or a whites tree frog. I will be a first time reptile owner and or amphibian owner. I’m doing tons of research. I want the best life for my animal, my baby will be spoiled big time! Any suggestions would be so much appreciated 🙏🏽 Great channel BTW ❤
unfortunately that arcadia hood lamp is on sale because it’s clearanced, do those other bulbs (the real expensive ones) that claim to be all in one with uvb, uva, and heat work? ive always been curious but don’t have the means to test it
Hi, I went to Pet Smart and actually got the Thrive set 😳 ( before watching this vid) and one issue that I had is, when u showed the pic of the Thrive Set put together you can see the little cave. When I set up the cave my baby bearded dragon was hungry so I fed it some crickets but the crickets actually started climbing to the top from inside the cave and it was bothering my bearded dragon so much because it didn’t get any sleep! Do you have any better suggestions for the same size caves like the one I have from the Thrive set??
Yeah the other bark looking hides they sell are good
What are your thoughts on the ExoTerra Solar Glo lamp? It says it gives UVB, UVA, heat and light.
It works but the uvb is very different per bulb so I only recommend with a solarmeter so you know how much uvb your getting cause it does produce good uvb but the heat may be too much at distances needed
@ChiefSweetsUniverse thanks! We've been using the type for a year now and Brewer seems to like it. I will send you a pic of his setup on IG. Thanks so much Chief!
My 7 month old is in the same tank she is eating, shedding, and pooping. My heat and lighting is spot on and I get her out of her enclosure at least once a day. I never see her zooming around or looking like she needs more space. When I get her out she usually stays in and around the same place so I’m not too worried about putting her in a larger enclosure. My 5.5 foot BOA is in a 4x2x2 and he stays in his hide or on a perch I made with bricks and a paver.
I have question I have a lamp that is uvb and heat lamp in one is that good?
So my neighbor gave me a free tank. But it’s a 20 long. He used it as a snake tank and also had fish in it. Part land part water. I was going to clean it out and use it as a starter Bearded dragon tank. I know I will have to upgrade it soon. Do you think it will be ok to start with? Or should I just wait and get a bigger tank? Thanks love your videos!
I would wait and get a bigger tank.
what plants can i plant inside my bearded dragons enclosure, my subtract is topsoil and play sand
Snake plants, aloe Vera, hawthornia, jade dwarf plant, echeveria, snake plants are some
I’ve spent so much $ on vet bills and my beardie is still sick 😢 he has swollen limbs not really eating & is dehydrated any advice on what could be wrong 🤔he had an X-ray no signs of bone disease
What do you think about the luminize pro t5 kit? Is it the same recommendations for distance etc as the old regulaf t5 pro kit?
Yes but I would have it set to where it powers to full power over a hour or two instead of gradually through the day
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse yeah thats what i was planning to do. Figured out it would be probably more comfortable for the lizard to have it gradually turn on and off instead of sudden lights on/lights off
@@samuelsippola7025 yeah they definitely work but I feel the recommended lighting they give will expose dragons to low outputs most of the day but you do a slow ramp up over a hour will be better
what do you think about loose substrate for baby bearded dragons?
Perfectly fine as long as you have correct temps and good uvb. I’ve bred bearded dragon and raised babies on sand from the start never had a issue
Hello I had a quick question. I was thinking of getting the 40 gallon zoomed enclosure, and I also want to get the pro t5 UVB. Is it giving it too much uvb with the sceen it comes with? I was wondering because you said 3.0 is good and it showed as 7 in the video, and I was wondering if that was too much UVB.
Very good question so beardies do want 3.0-7.4 that’s the range they want to bask at so a 12% prot5 is perfect for a 40 but you can go online and buy a 120 gallon to start your baby in it’s pretty much the same price as a 40 gallon at petsmart now
Ok thanks for the advice :)
Great video! I let my beardie free roam. What's the minimum amount of uvb should she get in a day? Thank you!
That’s awesome minimum two hours exposure under the uvb. After that she should be good
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Thank you so much!!!! Someone was telling me she needs 12 hours a day of uvb. I was afraid I would have to stop free roaming her. She gets at least 4 hours a day I'd say
Mate i live in australia and the pet shop in my town only has compact uvb coil lights, what do i do?
I have a thrive 40 gallon tank and the Arcadia 12% dessert is that sufficient even though the screen on top is thick ?
Yes but make sure to have the basking spot a little higher since it does block lots of uvb. Not too high but just raised
Are you ever going to consider paid consultations or the option to book a call with you for a few? I would pay 30 min for a call with you regarding my bearded dragon. I see others using Calendly for this. 🙏
Never thought about it. Maybe i will sometime
Do i have to get. A 120 to keep them happy?
What percentage of reptisand reptisoil and excavator clay for substrate?
Reptisoil 50% excavator clay 30% and reptisand 20%
I’m in the process of upgrading to 120 gal. I want to do driftwood and oak. Do I have to sanitize any of it at all or since it’s still cold out nothing could be living on it?
Driftwood usually doesn’t have to be sanitized I don’t sanitize stuff myself but you can
Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply! I’m learning so much from all your videos
Hi, I’m planning on owning a bearded dragon in the future, and I’m going to aim for a 75 gallon tank, so do I still get the Arcadia 12% 24 watt pro T5 UVB? if not that exact one, which do I get? And do bearded dragons really need sand if not what else could I use?
You could use top soil mixed with sand and makes a nice dirt mix. If you get a 75 gallon if it’s 18 inches tall still go with a Arcadia 12%
@@ChiefSweetsUniversethank you!
I like bears and dragons
What do you recommend me to do if my newly bought, skittish and young leo is in a shed but won’t let me help it? I have a moist hide but it doesn’t seem to be working just yet. I’ve had him for 2 days
The moist hide is all you need eventually he’ll come out with new skin. Just let him do his thing 😁
@@ChiefSweetsUniversethanks! He’s fully shedded now and seems to be very happy!
I love your videos! I'm learning so much from you. For the uvb lamp, i was wondering which one you got for this tank, I got the same size tank? And does it matter which one we get (for bird or reptile)?
You want the reptile one. The pro t5 Arcadia 12% 24 watt
Hello I was wondering for my leopard gecko I’m getting what food should I feed her/him crickets or mealworms?
And soon I’ll join the chief gang too probably next month
I do have a gecko feeding guide in the channel if you want to check that out!
Im confused on lighting as i thought you only needed a heat lamp and a uvb bulb. So is it better to get 2 heat lamps, or is one ok
Never mind, I get it now😂😂. Because you had 2 lamp holders, I thought you needed 2 heat lamps and a uvb
Haha my bad yeah it was just the two lamp holders
Could I put a baby beardy in a 120 gallon tank from start and can I use a bioactive substrate while it’s still a baby?
Yes! I’ve done it with many babies totally fine. Just make sure temps and lighting is good
Is there any dark time for the bearded dragon , are the lights on only during day time and all the lights are shut off at night when you go to bed ?
Yes lights off at night I use a timer and have it set from 7am to 7pm
I messed up and got the zoo med 20 gallon. I have a baby so it's okay for now but what is the best uvb i can give my baby right now? It came with the 10.0 mini coil uvb and a zoomed naturalistic reflective hood but i think that's not good. Help?
Arcadia 6% t5 or zoo med 5.0 t5
Hi! I'm considering getting a baby bearded dragon, but i own 2 cats. I was wondering if having cats will be an issue with the bearded dragon?
As long as your dragons in the tank no issue at all. Don’t introduce your dragon to the cats. Cats do like to kill lizards but many people own cats and have lizards as long as they don’t physically interact you’ll be fine
does the cool side need any sort of light?
No it doesn’t really need any you could put a regular household daylight non heat bulb on it to brighten the tank up but nothing else.
Can you please do a video on what to do if your beardie isnt eating.
I have a 1 year old and she will only eat like 1 once a week 😢
I do have one actually on the channel! But make sure temps are correct and uvb is good as well!
Does anyone know if before deciding on the location of my tank I should figure out the average temp of the room??????? We are making our own enclosure out of wood, which we heard really helps with humidity (we live in Florida) and there isn’t much information online
Yes definitely take in consideration of room temp as well it will influence the heat lamp wattage
Hey I have questions I have the thrive 40 gallon with T5 14% on top is that to uvb I don’t a have tester please help
That will be enough as long as it’s not closer than 8 inches from the back of the dragon
The Arcadia light - do I need 12% or 14%?
Either one of those work. For 4x2x2 tanks I use 14%. For 40 gallons I use 12%
Yay i watched and realized I didn’t do anything wrong
Let’s go!
I gots a 50-60 ish gal and have horrible lighting having a 60 bulb and red lighting with carpet and tree bark ik it's not the best but I'm not sure in what I need to do to help her be a easy if u have social so show her area to you to get advice would be nice first video very informational
Would a ZooMed lid fit on a thrive tank?
No the zoo med uses a middle support that doesn’t exist on the thrive
Are heat emitters okay for a bearded dragons basking spot???
No use a regular basking bulb
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Thank you!
Is there a limit to the amount of UVB they can receive? I have both the Solar Glo all-in-one 125 W and the ReptiSun T5 with the 10.0 tube. The Solar Glo bulb came with the Exo Terra tank, which is indeed the stupidest thing on the market -it's currently melting no matter where it's placed. I'll do my best to get a refund because I don't think having hot, melting plastic around is... safe?
Oh yeah definitely replace that if it’s melting all plastic like that. There can be too much uvb. You usually don’t want readings over 8.0 on a solar meter as that’s high intensity to be exposed all day every day but 3.0-7.4 is the sweet spot. The mercury vapor and reptisun would produce too much.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Thank you so much for the response! I ended up buying a 100W halogen bulb. Your videos are amazing, they pretty much taught me everything I needed to know to take proper care of him!
@@xgods9192 thats great to hear!
So I have the stupid lid, instead of buying a new tank do you know any replacement lids ?
Yes the thrive 36x18 inch screen at petsmart works
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse yes thanks I went today and they let me switch it out and I got the thrive cage
How often should a baby dragon eat in a new environment?
Daily. He might not the first couple days but eventually he should start eating
I’ve got a large wood too😂😂
Hahaha nice
for a 75 gallon tank how many watts do i need for a UVB light
trying to get an idea of evrything i need for when my brother get a bearded dragon
24 watt uvb t5 zoo med 10.0 or Arcadia 12%
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse thank you so much
what thermostat you used?
Zilla thermostat is my fave amzn.to/453oEG3
Do you need a heat lamp at night?
No not at night
Do you like Zen Habitats?
Yeah they are good
PetSmart price matches with proof of prices
Not all but some do
Hey can i keep a adult leopard gecko in a 20 gal tank(genuine question) the info is conflicting sadly :(
The minimum for an adult is 40 gallon but they can definitely survive In a 20 forever.
Is walnut shell substrate ok?
No stay away from that
