This is the best video on how to set up a bearded dragon's cage. Thank you sir, I'm so glad l found this video. Your the best teacher. Edit: you have a new subscriber here!!!
Thank you for the helpful information. It has been years since I had my bearded dragons. ( took a while to get over the loss, I had them for years) Decided it was time to get a couple more.
I bought the zoom med kit, unfortunately, however, the Mopani wood I have is very vertical and I moved the screen so the UVB light can go directly without obstruction.. my bearded dragon goes directly to the top of the basking spot and baskets directly underneath the UVB bulb probably about 4 inches to 5 inches directly from the bulb housing.. I’m still going to get the more powerful bulb that you recommended but at least I can know he’s going to directly underneath it for now lol😅
Just a quick question. I'm interested in using the Organic soil and Peatmoss and playsand as a substrate. How often do I need to replace it all at once? Love your videos by the way!
Hey man could you please make a video on making a dig box for those without substrate? And include info like what substrate would be best, where in the temp gradient is best to place it?

If I have a basking light with a dimmer, do I need to get the digital temp control? I figured I'd just use the infrared thermometer & once I got between 105-110 on the basking spot, I'm good. It seems easier to adjust the dimmer until you get the correct temp no? Also, I bought the 4x2x2 tank. 😁😁
You can but dimming too much actually hurts the important radiation from the bulb that helps the beardie that’s why it’s better to try and have the lamp at full power with good wattages
Very awesome video! I had a question kind of new to this the ultraviolet radiation from the light bulbs they say it's harmful to humans and can cause cancer and other things. How worried should I be or is it not as bad of a concern? I just brought home my first beared dragon and have the light set up in my room. Just curious for myself and one senior citizen. Just want to know your input and if I am worrying a little too much
Hiya Cheif. I got my latest bearded dragon just over a week ago. I can't recall how old they are when you get them, but yes, I got her from a big box store after losing my 2 year old. But to get to it. I have another, older one, that I think is a male (flashlight and visually, appears to be). This little one, she's 15g, so I don't know if that will help you with her age. My 2 year old, who I thought was a female exceeded 600g and my research says a female should only be about 1/2 that. I checked her when she was young, called her as a female and life went on. So I'm getting there. This 15g baby doesn't chew her food, I gave her dubias that were size appropriate and she just swallows them. When a beardie eats, you know it! Crunch crunch crunch, like potato chips! Since my 2 y.o. passed, I learned that their teeth and gums are 1 piece, not like us, where they are separate. My very 1st baby beardie had where her teeth/gums became disconnected from her jaw and I tried syringe feeding her, not knowing this. Then my 2nd that I just had mouth issues with. My question is - should I return her to the store because I have never heard of a beardie not chewing it's food? I feel like if I don't, I am just asking for trouble. Please, try not to judge me. I'm trying my best. I love my beardies, but I couldn't take the heartache again. Thank you!
I have a panther chameleon as my first reptile about 9 months old now doing quite well and if always loved bearded dragons and wondered if they were more difficult in terms of husbandry.
@ChiefSweetsUniverse that's great to hear I have pretty much nailed husbandry down for my panther chameleon it's just the humidity. For a bearded dragon what's the cycle for their lights and supplements.
@@ColesCraftedWorkshop supplements you can do calcium every insect feeding it’s ok to miss a day don’t worry multivitamins once every two weeks or once a month either one works lights come on sunrise and go off sunset. 7am-7pm usually
@ChiefSweetsUniverse oh ok so it'd the same as a panther chameleon calcium with no d3 every feeding and then calcium with d3 2 times a month. I also give some manuka honey for extra health benefits I'm not sure if besrdies are able to have that and if it would help their immune system.
@ChiefSweetsUniverse ok so for panther chameleon we have our basking bulb one hour on in the morning and one hour on at evening but for bearded dragons it's on all fay 7 am to 7pm.
Are there any budget Solarmeters out there or is the one you use the only one? That ~$250 price tag hearts my heart lol. Appreciate your videos, as always. We've had out Beardie for two months now and have followed your instructions closely.
I’ve used that zoomed coiled UVB bulb that comes with the starter kit.. however I did not install it vertically as you said it was meant to be put in sideways so I’m wondering how powerful it is when it’s sideways any idea ideas?
You want the 12% or the 10.0 if it’s not those then it’s too weak. The 12 inch Arcadia is usually the 7% which is way too weak meant for leopard geckos. You want the reptisun 10.0 or Arcadia 12%
I have that same tank and even the wood but, the center plastic on top is melting because of heat. Put a towel temporarily until I get two separate lamps!

I have a 24g starter tank for my baby bearded dragon that I will be getting soon. I have a duo deep mini dome lamp, what uvb wattage should I get? I was thinking 75W? Maybe a mega-ray bulb? Any recommendations?
It works but the uvb is very different per bulb so I only recommend with a solarmeter so you know how much uvb your getting cause it does produce good uvb but the heat may be too much at distances needed
@ChiefSweetsUniverse thanks! We've been using the type for a year now and Brewer seems to like it. I will send you a pic of his setup on IG. Thanks so much Chief!
I just found out about Zen Habitat enclosures and I’m excited to see if they’re worth it. So disappointed in Petsmart prices and almost all their reptile enclosures are kits. Thanks for your advice on the lighting really needed help
I have him in acardoars box he’s a juvenile i just got him I hope he’s okay for only one day I’m using a heat lamp with like metal on the center and a round bulb
unfortunately that arcadia hood lamp is on sale because it’s clearanced, do those other bulbs (the real expensive ones) that claim to be all in one with uvb, uva, and heat work? ive always been curious but don’t have the means to test it
Hey mate, sand is an issue for beardies. If they ingest it, which they normally do when eating, then it can clog them up pretty bad as their stomachs can't break it down.
Understand where you’re coming from because the hobby was under the belief that sand was bad due to impaction. However we have now solved that issue and have found out through research from vets and advanced keepers that it wasn’t sand but the husbandry like uvb and temps. Sand is perfectly safe as long as your temps are ok uvb is not coil but a t5 like an Arcadia 12% or zoo med 10.0 t5. Also the beardie is receiving proper supplements like calcium and a multivitamin once Month. Most keepers are starting this way thanks to all the advanced keepers and vets pushing the updated keeping methods.
@ChiefSweetsUniverse hey mate I don't know how they solved the issue, but if the repti sand can break down, then it should be good. I know here in Aus, not too many keepers use sand for this very reason. They'd try different things, and nothing really worked until they changed the substrate altogether. I've only owned a couple to nurse back to good health and released them.
@@callanmurphy9807 it doesn’t really break down as it just passes out when they poop but for sure if not given good uvb which in Australia may be harder to find as there’s only two reliable uvb kits on the market. Mercury vapor bulb might be the 3rd best option however this info comes from the beardie vet as well. He’s also from Australia and has been working with beardies for years
@ChiefSweetsUniverse yeh thought that'd be the same scenario mate. I've never really heard about it. If they've got a big enough dish and they're now constantly ingesting, they're usually fine. Yeh, we do have a few companies that sell good uvb and heat products, though may have to be changed a bit more regularly. I found with the uvb anyway. But as I said I'd really only had a few of them to mend back to health and release.
I give salad daily? I getting a breaded dragon in a month and I’m building the enclosure. I’m building a 4x2x2 out of hard maple. Should I put a screen on the one I’m building?
I messed up and got the zoo med 20 gallon. I have a baby so it's okay for now but what is the best uvb i can give my baby right now? It came with the 10.0 mini coil uvb and a zoomed naturalistic reflective hood but i think that's not good. Help?
Does anyone know if before deciding on the location of my tank I should figure out the average temp of the room??????? We are making our own enclosure out of wood, which we heard really helps with humidity (we live in Florida) and there isn’t much information online
Hello I had a quick question. I was thinking of getting the 40 gallon zoomed enclosure, and I also want to get the pro t5 UVB. Is it giving it too much uvb with the sceen it comes with? I was wondering because you said 3.0 is good and it showed as 7 in the video, and I was wondering if that was too much UVB.
Very good question so beardies do want 3.0-7.4 that’s the range they want to bask at so a 12% prot5 is perfect for a 40 but you can go online and buy a 120 gallon to start your baby in it’s pretty much the same price as a 40 gallon at petsmart now
not about bearded geckos but you e helped me a lot with my leopard gecko these past months. i’m just wondering what i can do to give my gecko more things to do or explore or do things. he liked to burrow like crazy. i just don’t want him to be bored he loves being held and coming out he’s constantly trying to.
My bearded dragons setup is pretty good but I really want to change the grass carpet and the swirly led light thing but because my dad thinks he’s sooooo smart he won’t let me😢
I love this video! I recently got a juvenile bearded dragon and I’ll be honest never had a juvenile. my last was fully grown. any tips? i’ve already learned they’ll try and eat anything in their tank fake plants and all. Do they need additional vitamins? how do i keep them hydrated? i used to mist my old one but that raises humidity. Thanks!!!!
My daughter’s dragon is in a 10G tank right now. I hope that is ok for a while. However we did get the ProT5 uvb kit. Is it going to be ok to have it set on top of the tank? We will work on getting a bigger tank later. Turbo is pretty small right now.
please help me 6 years ago a faimly fell apart I was giving a bearded dragon with a 40 gallon tank and meal worms the .an says lights off at ight on in day everyone says I have wrong lights
@lulzvip3r I have a basken light a thing that looks like a stove burner and that's it that the way the guy gave him to me 6 years ago but I started noticed that he was never really active like other dragons on you tube
@maryfigueroa7623 yeah I don't really know what kind of light that would be... I'd probably take a picture of your setup and go to a reptile shop near yourself and ask for advice. They do need a UV bulb aswell as a basking light, that could be why he/she isn't as active as others.

Hi, I went to Pet Smart and actually got the Thrive set 😳 ( before watching this vid) and one issue that I had is, when u showed the pic of the Thrive Set put together you can see the little cave. When I set up the cave my baby bearded dragon was hungry so I fed it some crickets but the crickets actually started climbing to the top from inside the cave and it was bothering my bearded dragon so much because it didn’t get any sleep! Do you have any better suggestions for the same size caves like the one I have from the Thrive set??
Hi, I’m planning on owning a bearded dragon in the future, and I’m going to aim for a 75 gallon tank, so do I still get the Arcadia 12% 24 watt pro T5 UVB? if not that exact one, which do I get? And do bearded dragons really need sand if not what else could I use?
I've been doing tons of research and looking at finally pulling the plug on getting a baby dragon. What would I be looking at price wise if I have nothing and need to buy everything to get going?

Is it ok to mix the sand and clay together? And also should I use water to kind and get rid of the dust that would kick up from the clay.
Could you make a video of all the websites you use to order your crickets dubia roaches etc please and ty😃
for a 75 gallon tank how many watts do i need for a UVB light
trying to get an idea of evrything i need for when my brother get a bearded dragon
24 watt uvb t5 zoo med 10.0 or Arcadia 12%
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse thank you so much
Hello I was wondering for my leopard gecko I’m getting what food should I feed her/him crickets or mealworms?
And soon I’ll join the chief gang too probably next month
I do have a gecko feeding guide in the channel if you want to check that out!
What are your thoughts on the ExoTerra Solar Glo lamp? It says it gives UVB, UVA, heat and light.
Is there any dark time for the bearded dragon , are the lights on only during day time and all the lights are shut off at night when you go to bed ?
Yes lights off at night I use a timer and have it set from 7am to 7pm
unfortunately that arcadia hood lamp is on sale because it’s clearanced, do those other bulbs (the real expensive ones) that claim to be all in one with uvb, uva, and heat work? ive always been curious but don’t have the means to test it
Hey mate, sand is an issue for beardies.
I take it you're not paying attention. Please do that, instead of talking..
Help?
Arcadia 6% t5 or zoo med 5.0 t5
What the brand of your basking bulb?
what do you think about loose substrate for baby bearded dragons?
Perfectly fine as long as you have correct temps and good uvb. I’ve bred bearded dragon and raised babies on sand from the start never had a issue
reptile carpet is very luck based, and a huge gamble. which is why id rather follow your advice then take my chances
Does anyone know if before deciding on the location of my tank I should figure out the average temp of the room??????? We are making our own enclosure out of wood, which we heard really helps with humidity (we live in Florida) and there isn’t much information online
Yes definitely take in consideration of room temp as well it will influence the heat lamp wattage
Very good question so beardies do want 3.0-7.4 that’s the range they want to bask at so a 12% prot5 is perfect for a 40 but you can go online and buy a 120 gallon to start your baby in it’s pretty much the same price as a 40 gallon at petsmart now
Ok thanks for the advice :)
not about bearded geckos but you e helped me a lot with my leopard gecko these past months. i’m just wondering what i can do to give my gecko more things to do or explore or do things. he liked to burrow like crazy. i just don’t want him to be bored he loves being held and coming out he’s constantly trying to.
Bigger enclosure and more decor is what I usually do.
Thanks!!!!
Baths and they will take a sip from your finger
My daughter’s dragon is in a 10G tank right now. I hope that is ok for a while. However we did get the ProT5 uvb kit. Is it going to be ok to have it set on top of the tank? We will work on getting a bigger tank later. Turbo is pretty small right now.
you can not properly provide temperature gradiants in anything below a 40 gallon. please purchase a 120 gallon tank as soon as possible.
Is the sand okay for babies as well?
please help me 6 years ago a faimly fell apart I was giving a bearded dragon with a 40 gallon tank and meal worms the .an says lights off at ight on in day everyone says I have wrong lights
What lights do you have?
@lulzvip3r I have a basken light a thing that looks like a stove burner and that's it that the way the guy gave him to me 6 years ago but I started noticed that he was never really active like other dragons on you tube
@maryfigueroa7623 yeah I don't really know what kind of light that would be... I'd probably take a picture of your setup and go to a reptile shop near yourself and ask for advice. They do need a UV bulb aswell as a basking light, that could be why he/she isn't as active as others.
Hiiii I need help , i recently bought a baby bearded dragon she was white light brown with orange ,, she is changing color and looks really dark . What is happening????
It sounds like she may not be getting warm enough they get darker when they are cold
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse okay thank you , I just seen your video so I’m learning thank u I need to go buy a UV light I didn’t get one . And a thermometer because I thought it turned dark cuz it was hottt the light gets so hot.
Going dark is a sign they are unhappy
I’m in the process of upgrading to 120 gal. I want to do driftwood and oak. Do I have to sanitize any of it at all or since it’s still cold out nothing could be living on it?
Driftwood usually doesn’t have to be sanitized I don’t sanitize stuff myself but you can
Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply! I’m learning so much from all your videos
you explain everything thank you so much
Happy to help!
Yeah the other bark looking hides they sell are good
Hi, I’m planning on owning a bearded dragon in the future, and I’m going to aim for a 75 gallon tank, so do I still get the Arcadia 12% 24 watt pro T5 UVB? if not that exact one, which do I get? And do bearded dragons really need sand if not what else could I use?
You could use top soil mixed with sand and makes a nice dirt mix. If you get a 75 gallon if it’s 18 inches tall still go with a Arcadia 12%
@@ChiefSweetsUniversethank you!
I've been doing tons of research and looking at finally pulling the plug on getting a baby dragon. What would I be looking at price wise if I have nothing and need to buy everything to get going?
I would say you are gonna be looking at around $500. I’ll make a video on it soon listing everything
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse awesome, tyvm :)
