    Guyanese here 👋🏽
From the civilian pov as much as we wanna call Maduro's bluff and go about our lives as per normal... theres still a looming uneasiness that lingers due to the fact that our military is woefully unprepared to deal with any form of military invasion.
We purposely didn't build roads going to the western border specifically because of Venezuelas aggression leaving the dense jungle untouched as a natural barrier against any mechanized assault.
We are also very dependent on the international community to basically fight for us.
That being said, the Venezuelan population in Guyana is overwhelming. One can assume that Venezuelan nationals augment atleast 30% of the country's population.
They tend to sneak across the border in large groups and make their way to the capital and other wide spread rural areas. While most of them integrate peacefully their are multiple incidents of violent crime committed by them.
There's also a group called "syndicato" made up of former Venezuelan military personnel and gangsters that linger by our border and do as they please.
One can assume that any military action taken by Venezuela against Guyana will more than likely start off as guerilla warfare where the thousands of illegal immigrants already here can easily cause chaos while the syndicato acts as an improv militia already at out borders and in our jungles.
Safe to say that while American intervention will be appreciated, the Guyanese government has to deal with the massive immigration crisis that can unfold into something horrific.

The Spanish were never in control of Essequibo even in colonial era. Spain lost wars and ceded territory to other colonial powers as the British.

The border issue was settled in 1899 by arbriation ,ratified in 1905, and Venezuela participated fully in this process. Venezuela was very happy with the outcome because they got Guyana's terrority during arbriation hearings. The government of Venezuela celebrated the outcome by printing stamps of the maps and celebrating it in their parliament. Venezuela also participated with Guyana in the demarcation of the borders. This matter is before the ICJ . Guyana has great alliances with great world powers. Any invasion by venezuela in Guyana will be met by the USA ,UK, Canada , Brazil, France , Holland, etc . They will not be fighting the Guyanese population only. Venezuela will lose embrassingly in any misadventure against Guyana.
