The neon light effects on the instruments in 1946! And WW2 still fresh, this must have been a real good tonic. Please somebody remaster these recordings.
@@mr.k905 Most likely they ordered custom-shaped neon lamps from some small company. Just so everybody knows, it was possible then for roughly two decades (although it was probably not until the mid-1940s that it became affordable enough to use it in a stage performance).
Ive always been a fan of Louis Jordan. Watching this vintage footage convinces me that he is Godfather of Rock n Roll. You could definitely tell where Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles and Elvis got their style from.
From wherever the later "Rock´n Roll" craze was coming - this stuff is def. Jazz Bigband-oriented as my great friend, teacher and mentor, Jazz-organ pioneer Wild Bill Davis always told me Sir. He was pianist and arranger with Jordan in this period and also performs in this soundie / video. So he knew what was happen, be sure :-)
Jordan was as Multitalented as a Prince or James Brown ect , he influenced a lot of musicians and the cabaret he new exactly what it was to entertain the people , the men was way ahead .
Hi Bessie..no, your right. I know Brian Setzer from the Stray Cats, had a Orchestra Juke joint type of feel.. check out " Jump, jive, well " I was just thinking while I was listening to this.. I Heard Louis on a radio in Utah late at night coming home from a AA meeting..1995..hot summer night.. BAM !!! On comes Calidonia, followed up with Peggy Lee and " Fever" . Well, after I came back down to earth, I never looked back. I vow to you and everyone else who hears this music and asks the same question.. I know they're people out there that want to keep playing and writing this style. I promise with my last breath of air, I will keep playing, keep learning, and keep the legends of music alive for the next generation.🎶
What a fantastic bass line along with the horns! The neon lights added a strange effect. Performers were doing unusual things on stage well before the Who and the Doors.
omg....my great friend, teacher and mentor, Jazz-organ pioneer Wild Bill Davis on piano here. You can see his face just for moments at 1:26, 1:29, 1:43; 1:46......(damn tenor-saxophonist who covered him most of the time) :-)
Jordan and his contempories helped sew the roots of jazz and what was to come and they were not allowed to enter through the front doors where they played. Not much changed since. Please dont judge just love from Australia
This is not rock n roll. It is big band swing music from 1946 and is from the movie "Swing Parade of 1946" that also starred Gale Storm and the Three Stooges.
Walkin' with my baby, she got great big feet She long, lean and lanky And ain't had nothing to eat But she's my baby And I love her just the same Crazy 'bout that woman 'cause Caldonia is her name Caldonia, Caldonia What make your big head so hard, ma? I love you, I love you just the same I always love you, baby, 'cause Caldonia is your name You know my mama told me to leave Caldonia alone That's what she told me, no kiddin' That's what she said She said, "Son, keep away from that woman, she ain't no good Don't bother with her" But mama didn't know what Caldonia was putting down So I'm going down to Caldonia's house And ask her just one more time Caldonia, Caldonia What makes your big head so hard, ma?

Proper records did a real nice 4 disc box set of Mr. Jordan's work

Frank Smith Chuck Berry got it all from T-Bone Walker

He's the God Father of many. Un-fucking-believable TALENT!
This clip (especially the effects) is too cool.
Let the good times, roll!
So , true men thats my thought to ,
Jordan was as Multitalented as a Prince or James Brown ect , he influenced a lot of musicians and the cabaret he new exactly what it was to entertain the people , the men was way ahead .
In very loving memory of Mr. Louie Thomas Jordan (1908 - 1975 R.I.P. // gone but not forgotten).
I remember my Dad singing bits and pieces of this to me about 1950...when I was 5 or 6.
Are you still with us
No wonder he is in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame!
I guess you can say he was like Prince in the 40s
This band is so tight it's just amazing!!!
The best definition of Rock n Roll. ENERGY
this man is a real performer!
Definitely!
*This was the beginning of what will become Rock and Roll.*
Good frontman makes the band, his energy is contagious many years later
Love this kind of music they don't make music like this anymore. 3-8-2021

I remember when Mos Def sang this song in the film "Lackawanna Blues".
That was a great performance.

My God! What class!
You can tell Little Richard was greatly inspired by this song when he made Lucille.
My exact thoughts.
And James brown
Just as any rockabilly / rock&roll song composed over a decade later (including Johny B. Goode and many more)
One of the very best of all times. Most people have never heard of him!?!!

LJ was a true performer and always had alot of fun while doing it.
Jordan and his contempories helped sew the roots of jazz and what was to come and they were not allowed to enter through the front doors where they played. Not much changed since. Please dont judge just love from Australia
He's the best.
GREAT !!!!
This man was the father of the modern day music video.
I can’t disagree with that. You could even say he’s also the grandfather of Funk, not just Rock & Roll.
@@FN_FAL_4_ever Yes he helped to pioneer Rock Music ppl like Chuck Berry, Little Richard have said he had a great deal of influence on their careers.
EPIC!
wow, that was great!
Brilliant
Louis Jourdan picked up where Cab Calloway left off.........
Excellent 👌🤪😎
Everything comes from jazz. Jazz was first. Blues is a derivative and so is rock.
This was 1946 people
How did they do that NEON effect back then?? Paint?
great
I love the dance break! Director to Louis, "How many girls do you want?" Louis "10" Director "we can only afford 2"
67 years. It took 67 years to kill rock. It's not completely dead. We have a few promising groups. I just wish it was as prominent as the 70s again.
If I ever have it my way, it will
