I was expecting the ending title to be "Hardly any crimes of Grindelwald"
This film's crime is its existence
That's exactly what my mother said when we saw the movie! I was so excited and then, when it was over, my mother leaned to me and said, "For a movie titled 'Crimes of Grindelwald' he really isn't committing any crimes"!
@@vepmoon96 I thought the film was pretty good. It certainly had flaws, but overall I enjoyed the wonderful visuals and the intriguing symbolism. And specifically about the crimes thing that's been circulating around, Grindelwald does commit and order countless murders, among them burning a majority of the auror squad alive and almost obliterating the entire city of Paris. Don't forget his engineered path of clues that manipulated Credence. Grindelwald's method of manipulation is really quite something. He exploits Credence's desperation for his true heritage. To put Credence in simpler terms, think Harry, but the Vernons beat him regularly, and he knows that he is a wizard for years. Think about how much one such as Credence would give just to know his true name. Harry always wanted to know more about his parents after all. About the anger surrounding the twist at the end about Credence, personally I believe Grindelwald is lying; converting Credence's desperation into ambition and hatred now that he knows his true heritage, and directing all that destructive potential to a singular source, just like how a real dictator would work on a larger scale. Grindelwald tries the same form of exploitation on Leta, specifically mentioning how she had been rejected by wizard society because of her family's practices. There is an arch for Leta about her views on her self-worth. She was after all the unloved child, but her feelings of injustice were completely destroyed when she committed the crime of accidently dooming her brother. It's the source of her fear, and the anchor that firmly cements her view of herself that she isn't worth it. She tries to deny this supposed truth by making herself a friend of Newt, but tragically, her arch comes to a close when she decides to sacrifice herself for her loved one, choosing someone else over her own life. While it was heroic to fight the person that wishes to destroy the system that oppressed her, ultimately this means her decision on her self-worth is that she, when considering her past crime, is lesser than those around her. Despite the limited runtime, J.K. really did manage to pour in that detail, and there's plenty set up for the sequel to be excited about. My major gripes with the movie would be how densely packed to information is, often being presented so quickly that you would miss something significant if you let your attention slip for a second, and the lack of development or sophisticated character for Nagini, Grimson, and (I agree with you on this character Honest Trailer) the man that made the Unbreakable Vow to kill Credence. Otherwise, I enjoyed this movie even when considering how harsh some of the flaws are, and I look forward to the sequel.

I did get excited about even the mention of “His dark materials” books! Then I started wondering why they’ve never made a movie out of it.... then I remembered they did and it was so horrible that my brain just deleted it automatically

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. I actually liked the first fantastic beasts! I still managed to find in me the strength not to go see this movie. I'm fine with it now.

I watch the whole movie but it went from person to another random person and then some baby swapping because a girl wanted to stop hearing a baby cry and then some more people in the movie were all discussing what happend and just like just stay with the baby swapping. @@ElectricTacoFTW_TheTacoTeam Not really.. there is no indication in the HP books that Dumbledore has ALWAYS taught only transfiguration, or that prof. Merrythought had always taught only DADA. She had been at Hogwarts for 50 years when Tom Riddle wanted ther seat, but she might have taught something else too. And some subjects might have been taught by different professors for different age groups at one point. It is a small loophole, but Rowling used it. It's a pun on the name of another popular book series written by another Brit (Philip Pullman) called "His Dark Materials". They were published around the same time as the Harry Potter books and were also aimed at children and adults.
The first book was made into a film years ago under the name "The Golden Compass", and the BBC are adapting it into a tv series that is being released later this year.

Ironically(don't know for sure if it's deliberate), The sign of the Deathly Hallows and swastikas are connected due to infamous usage of them when they weren't a bad thing before.

You forgot:
1. The movie fails to explain what crimes grindelwald committed.
2. The very elaborate and confusing plot that led to credence been a dumbledore?
3. The ministry of magic using avada kadava on the girl during Grindelwald speech.
Uh, killed several people? Ordered the murder of a child? Were you asleep in the first half hour already?
magicmulder he only killed a few people at the very end with the blue flames but one could consider some of those self defence since the ministry planned to kill him. In fact most of the killing in the movie were done by his follows and the ministry of magic!. Also Grindelwald didnt order the death of the child. He walked away. You cant exactly blame Grindelwald for murders his followers commit that would be like blaming Voldemort for the murders his followers committed.
I think it should've been "The Rise of grindelwald." Also, there's a theory that Credence is Dumbledore's dark twin (you know, someone seperating their obscurial from themselves resulting in a dark twin somehow), and as for the avada kedavra....yeah, I've got nothing there.

The Dumbledore thing is called cliffhanger and will be declared as a lie from Grindelwald in the next movies. There were just two siblings next to Albus, and it's not possible for his Parents to have a child in that age because his mother died and his father got imprisoned after killing some muggles. Only possible way would be that Aberforth got a child....
You all forgot about the ending scene where the characters gather at the bridge to watch Newt and Jude Law talk. Literally just standing there watching them talk. And then they walked away and everyone was just standing there. What was that shot supposed to be. Lmaoooo

When a friend explained the baby swap thing I assumed I was being pranked
Considering how Leta was the unloved child, the motivation was certainly there. It's just that what was initially meant as a mean trick went horribly out of proportion.
I still don't fully understand what the hell was going on with that backstory. Like seriously, I felt like it was explained so poorly in the movie that I wasn't sure what child was what and why I should care.
My gf (read every book) and I were in the cinema for this movie and I was so lost and put up a blank face when the backstory was dropped. She thought I would be one of the few people who don't understand it. She has since revoked her opinion :D

You missed the opportunity to talk about the huge plot hole on Minerva McGonagal.
It's not a huge plot hole, though, since it has nothing to do with the plot and is in no way huge anything. It's merely an insignificant continuity error, at least as long as she doesn't get any actual role in the later films. Even if she does, it'll still just be a continuity error.
CS did miss the change to point it out, tho.
They mention it in their Commentary video. It's part of a deleted scene.
How about the fact that Credence is Dumbledore's brother? Come on, if that was the case then the entire subplot of Grindelwald, Albus, and Aurelius accidentally killing their sister Ariana couldn't have happened in the first place. They show that Credence's parents died on the ship when it sank and he was just a baby. Ariana wasn't even born yet and still some how years later they met in school and eventually killed her splitting the brother's apart? Yeah.... Talk about a plot hole.

The series was supposed to be about newt's fantastic beasts. But not anymore.
@RIVERS CURRY Then why use the main title 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' if it's barely about the beasts? Other than the fact that the name sells because it's a reference to an actual in-universe Hogwarts textbook? It's like if you have another movie called 'Quidditch Through the Ages' and the main story is instead about a sinister plot to overthrown the British Parliament and take control of the Muggle world or something, with some Quidditch thrown in on the sides to attract HP fans to watch it and justify its title. Those are fun to watch, yes, but the tone will contrast heavily with the actual main storylines that are barely related to the title at all.
The original Harry Potter series is legendary for me, because they are part of my childhood (mostly the books). I don't care about the spin offs but they can't really ruin the original series for me.

My trick is to watch none of the spinoffs. It's worked so far.

P.I.S Staker its a good cliffhanger but whether it’s the truth or not is up for debate until the next installment. At least it’s a prequel that takes risks unlike other films that would try playing it safe.

The original harry potter series made it pretty clear that the Wizarding world was a grim place for 99% of it's history, if anything the first three harry potter movies are during a renaissance time after Voldemort's first death. it was also made clear that they basically had a slew of "dark lords" since they went undercover to escape the modern world's weapons being pointed at them... since they had a bad enough time with swords from a few little tidbits from the books.

I love Jacob, he is what's making the movies fun and lighthearted... they became more serious & more adult like with the 2d movie, it was the same with the Harry Potter Qeries, they became serious & gloomy when they started with that snogging nonsense & everyone's hormones went off the charts

I can't comment about the other films that you've missed. But I commend you for not seeing this one. I so wanted a refund after watching it in the theaters on its first week. The story is just awful. It's like a really bad fanfiction.

Ok, I bought Grindelwald’s motives since his whole recruiting process came around wanting it for the greater good, prophecy was an established device in the series and stopping WW2 would’ve been an excellent point so close after WW1.

We don't know exactly what they're planning or what precisely they have the rights to, but Numenor is on the most recent version of the Middle-Earth map they've revealed, and they used the Ring poem to introduce it, so it looks likely we'll get the Drowning of Numenor and the Forging of the Rings of Power.

Surprised you didn't mention the tomb scene, which had more exposition and plot twists than your average anime... That was god awful...

Considering she was looking for her "potential brother", saw the mysterious black dude, and was like "BROTHER!". They never mentioned another brother, so I was sitting in the theater trying to tie together all the string. Just because of the mass lack of information.
I feel like if that movie was done a bit slower plot wise, it would have been significantly better. Was suuuuuuper rushed and so many characters made outrageous decisions that didn't make sense.
Chris Mulkey The first half of the movie was way too slow with literally nothing of importance happening (I atleast dont remeber anything significant from that) and towards the end everything was super rushed and confusing. They could definately have paced it better and not had half the characters present as they added literally nothing to the plot. I hope the rest of the movies are better and we get to see dumbedore vs grindelwald, but so far this was the worst movie in the ‘Wizarding World’ universe.

@@cian2168 I would have to disagree. The movie's full of magic, but it doesn't feel magical. It just happens. Like in the scene where the assassin blends into the wall. There's no spell or wand; he just does it.

Yeah, I'm sort of confused that a majority (or maybe it's just the loud voices) is hating on Eddie Redmayne and his acting? Cos I feel like the first movie made an unconventional interesting male lead with great set up for future developments on his own issues, then they seem to have panicked and bailed on Newt to cut him out of the leading role, even though one of the main reasons I went to see Fantastic Beasts was Eddie Redmayne... (the other reason of course it being a Harry Potter movie, but that isn't gonna cut it anymore for the next movie)
