First time having Spike Jonze there to direct, but it's not the first time he has let the artist do more than just stand on a mark and do their latest song. Maybe it's the stage musical geek in him, but he seems to love giving them the the whole stage and the freedom to direct their own performance and make it more than just another guest musical appearance.
Loved this so much. Can't get the song out of my mind. Fun that you can see Stephen in the audience doing the 'moves'.

I love that moment at 2:30 where Beanie and two dancers huddle together. Such a simple way to depict sisterhood. The way they whispered, too, seemed like they were sharing stories and making sure everyone was all right. That sense of collective consciousness was so stunning.

Huge fan of Karen O, have been since the 'Master' EP by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Can't believe all these years later she's still the same creative force she has always been. Fantastic stuff!!!

Unprecedented. Must have been nerve-wracking with all the planning, choreography, short set-up time, prop placement, black-out auditorium, bright lights in the performers' faces... my goodness. How in thee hell did Spike Jonze use all of the available space? That's a seriously interesting mind. BTW, Karen O can friggin sing all get out. Thank you Sir ColdBeer for hosting this.

Alex M you may be confused by the delivery of my comment. I’ve obviously seen enough live performances to determine what’s legendary and innovative versus that of a gimmick w/ borrowed stage presence. This isn’t a live performance you see on national television everyday. To be precise in your art direction and all while having your live audience cued in on time ? I think it’s you that hasn’t seen enough live performances.

Over a year later, I have lost tracks of how many times I've listen to Lux Prima and rewatch this video. Both the album and this short film are perfect. That was one of the best live performances I’ve seen in a long time, or maybe ever. So creative. Loved everything about it.
I have admired Karen Os stage presence since I was 10 and playing Maps on Rock Band...she makes me believe that artistic visions can come to life!! Such a badass!

Karen O is herself already a peculiar mix, she's probably not the only one out there, her mum is Korean & her dad is Polish (only if i remember well, i've read this a dozen years ago)

I remember the first time I saw Karen O perform on TV. It was with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and I think FUSE (or MTV) was covering Lallapalooza. They opened the set with “Zero” (and I believe “It’s Blitz” had just come out). Lou Reed introduced her as one of the great performers of today. The sort of glittering, bold spectacle that we see here is exactly why I’ve stuck around for years.

I had edited that performance from my DVR-recording of that show - , and for years afterwards, it became a favorite tune of mine to periodically replay on the DVR. Finally, let me say that it's a little daunting for me to consider that was nearly TEN YEARS AGO.
