I really enjoy this 'revisiting' series -- it's been so helpful as I continue to increase my usage of Norwegian-style work. My k & p stitches are getting smoother & quicker all the time, and I like that you go back & forth so we get the benefit of both of your teaching styles. Tak!
After four months of knitting Norwegian style (per Arne and Carlos), this 76 year old from the USA is finally picking up a little steam and enjoying it. I'm cranking out socks for my daughter who only wears a size 3 adult shoe and is obviously hard to fit. The Norwegian increase is easy and welcomed. . . . Thank you guys for all that you do. I so enjoy your videos. Going on the knitting cruise is on my Bucket List. Love and Kisses to both of you. Letty
It's the first time I've seen the lifted increase and it makes so much sense!!! I've knitted since 1968 when my baby sitter taught me :) thanks so much!!!
Thank you. I've just finished a pair of mittens yesterday and used this increase for the thumb gusset instead of M1, picking up the loop before the stitch. It looks awesome there are no holes. Will use this all the time now.
I love both of you!!! Thank you for your thoughtful videos and perspectives from both of you!! Love this way of increasing! I look forward to the Christmas stocking daily knit coming up tomorrow! Yay!
I am so excited about this increase. I am glad you showed this before I started my new project. It is really working out great and it is probably the easiest way to increase that I have seen. Thank you so much!
I love, love the videos! I learned continental as a child but evolved into Norwegian. I use increases on toe up socks and this is going to be my favorite as its so easy, thank you
Wow❣️ I love how easy this is 🙌🙌 I’m going to try this on my next sweater with raglan increasing...no more M1L and M1R or remembering which way to increase to get the slant left /right. Thank You❤️❤️
Thank you so much in showing us how to increase. I enjoy the lift stitch. I learn so much from you guys. I have also tried to increase in the front and back of a stitch. But the stitch lift is so much easier and comfortable. Thank you so much. Carlos I hope you are getting your strength back as well as Arne. Sending you virtual hugs.
That's so cool! I'm so glad i watched how you increase in knitting AND how you hold your needles. It feels better in my wrists and fingers...I can't thank you enough! Saying Hello from Michigan, USA!
love it and brilliant. Arne I will always think of the momma's leg! !! and your abashed facial expressions...oddy oddy oddy Carlos' body language on hand placement is very instructive as well.
The beauty of your method is that it doesn’t leave a small hole in the work. The way I was taught by my gran was knitting into the front then the back of the same stitch. We learn something new very day. Thank you both. Hope you’re both almost fully recovered.x
Thanks again for your knitting basics series. So much fun "visiting" with you. I also want to thank you again for the Quarantine Podcasts and mystery blocks. Hugging you later!
Yay! Another great video! I love your way of increasing! Simple and effective. And Arne, I almost burned my microwave making popcorn, too. It stunk up the house for days! Thanks again for another great video. Denise from Texas
I remember awhile ago Arne talking about Daughter, Mama & Grandma legs (lol) in increases. Your way is always the best way for me.... ... btw we are talking about Norwegian knitting in other groups. I always maintain that finger down is always a very sophisticated/elegant way to knit comfortably. Thank you guys.... and take care of yourselves. 🤗🤗💐💐❤️🧶
After watching your videos, I started knitting in Norwegian way...and I really like it. Specially when knitting socks. Thanks for all your videos. Cecilia Chile.
I've been knitting for ages; but you both and Freya have set me on a new road of i inspiration. Not only am i working on this blanket but i am teaching myself how to speak Swedish and Norwegian so that when we can finally travel i will be able to converse well enough to get by. Thanks again for all that you do! Take care of yourself. Hope you both know hoe much you are loved! From NYC - a big hug!
Good increase with no holes, thats a pleasure. Plus from your teaching I’ve started to hold my finger right finger on the needle relaxed as I very much had the ever rising right finger and always had to readjust slowing me down cause tension et. So the video where that was your focus very much helped me. This will as well. Thank you. PS when I would see an instructor holding their finger so close i would think to myself how uncomfortable they looked and felt as if it would make them ore tense not having very much space to pick the yarn to knit with. I now see how its more relaxing and I have lost that nagging rising index finger thanks so much. I’m not having to stop and regather my hold and allows me to release tension on my working yarn hand ands tension on yarn and tension on my muscles. So glad you are doing this series of short tutorials.
So simple, love it. I've nothing to increase at the moment but will try it today as a test. Logically it seems the perfect way and as you say ... won't leave any holes or gaps. Thanks 😁👍 Stay well.
I started this way after you explained about the mother, daughter etc. and it's so easy. Thank you for going back over it, i'm sorry Carlos still isn't feeling 100% well, I hope you are having a restful time off. Take care of yourselves....
Have recently mastered the knit and purl stitch through your videos (took a bit of practice with the purl but glad I persevered as I can now cha cha cha)! My goal is to do colour work, being an English style thrower I now feel more confident having mastered the Scandinavian knit and purl as I will be able to hold a colour in each hand. Thank you too for this video on how to increase, well demonstrated, it couldn’t be easier! Also very much enjoy your banter!
My Grandma taught me this way when I was a child. I didn't know there were other ways. Love your chats. Hope you are both recovered from the post viral tiredness now xxx
You two are great together!! I have just found you in the last 2 weeks. I am a beginner. When I decided to try knitting I knew that I might not be able to do it because I have pretty bad carpal tunnel. The Norwegian way of knitting has allowed me to learn without too much pain in my hands. It was very difficult at first with the finger down tension and the cha-cha purl. Fun stuff!! I haven’t been able to do any in-person classes so I have been watching a lot of RUclips and found your videos the most helpful. I have also found a virtual class for beginning knitters. We started last Tuesday and have another class tomorrow where we will actually start a scarf. I have been practicing your techniques everyday this week. The teacher knew nothing about what I was doing so maybe I will be teaching her some Norwegian knitting thanks to you both. Keep up the great work. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and talents with us!!
I love your videos. I am Swedish so fore me that knitting is what my grandmother told me from the beginning when I started knitting when I was around 5-6 years old and I am turning 33 this year. I like hearing you speak Norwegian sins I understand you then to. I learn from both of you when I watch your videos. Some things are easier to learn from one and some thing from the other one of you.
Thanks for this video. I usually knit in front of stitch then in back of same stitch. I like it your way. Used it last night on Save the Children sweater sleeve.
I have just discovered your tutorials after being recommended Norwegian purling as I have struggled with purling the continental way. It’s been a game changer for me. A bit more practise and it will become smoother. My hands find it much easier. I love that there are videos with guys doing knitting, and for the first time that I have seen, actually showing how to hold needles and yarn. My mum taught me to knit around 50 years ago on straight needles, with one tucked under the armpit, and English style. Using circular needles and knitting continental style is so much more intuitive as I also crochet. Jumpers knit in the round are so much easier without having to sew the pieces together.
Thank you gentlemen, I have just ripped out my knitting as I could not get a satisfactory result increasing in the middle of a row. This is so easy now that I have seen you demonstrating it. I am not a very confident knitter. Yet!
I learned this a while back on one of your videos and it's one of my favorite ways to increase. Recently I watched a lady who also will pick up the stitch on the right needle to make a left leaning increase. Thought it was very interesting.
I saw something similar in a Blueprint class. I can't remember which class (I have been watching like 2 a week since lockdown started) but I remember they when they were picking up on the left needle they went one stitch down like Arne & Carlos and when they picked up from the right needle they picked up from the "grandma" stitch. I can't remember which leg they picked up on that one though.
💚🌷💜 Just to let you know I am still busy knitting my birds😁 I have done one for every week of our lockdown so now doing bird no 10 😱😁🧶🦅 They look good even if I say so myself 😂😂
This is my favorite increase.. as you said its super easy and I learned it from you guys as well. Arne in the kitchen would probably be comical. Now you have to demonstrate decreases Carlos......
Ehen I learned knittin from my Grandma ages ago, this was not the way she taught me to increase. Furtunately I bought your book „Knit and crochet Garden“ and knited a Magnus Garden Mouse... Since then I do my increasing always this way. Thank you 😉
Besides learning this quick, effortless way of increasing with knit stitches, I got a laugh from your little chat about cooking! I actually was looking for a way to increase on a purl stitch. I watched just to see if an alternative way of increasing a knit stitch. Very glad I did as seeing how you set up your needles and yarn and then knit was fantastic! So very little movement and as you said, Carlos, ergonomically more efficient! Love it! I guess this is something like "combination knitting" (?) that I had heard about last month. I looked at You Tube also to see what this combination knitting was about. (I found the explanation with Norman "Nimble Needles" a fellow Scandinavian knitter. I didn't see you two at the time. But Norman does clear, easy to understand videos also...just without your entertainment factor! lol!) I just found the two of you today! Who else knows how to knit beautifully (and now I know efficiently) but the Norwegians! By the way Arne, the sweater your wearing is amazing!
Hello from Australia. This is the first Arne & Carlos video I have watched, closely followed by knitting and purling and oh what fun! I have heard about you from Andrea and Andrew on Fruity Knitting, and I'm so glad I finally sought you out. Now I have been Norwegian knitting and purling away for the last hour! As a physio I really appreciate and applaud your ergonomic advice. I have been quite puzzled by the modern style of finger poking up in both knitting and crochet....it's a disaster for me and I imagine many others when it comes to tendons! Normally I happily knit English style, but I think it's great to have options, good to change the way the muscles are working, and good for the brain to learn something new! I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Welcome to our channel Tanya and thank you for your kind words. We have several tutorials and hope you enjoy them. Variation is key to keeping your muscles fit.
Oh it's a very interesting efficient way to increase. Easier than mine. Y did increasing before taking the horizontal part of stitch of the last row from the right needle. This method gives a very good result but it requires a bigger effort. Thank you. I will try yours on
New subscriber and I feel like you two are going to up my game. Thank you. It’s a bit like never ever drink tea in England with your pinky finger up - even tho everyone in the world thinks that’s how it’s done. 🤣
I have been knitting since I was 4 but closer to 5 then 3. I am nearly 70 (July 21) and I have been increasing like you do. I went to a Montessori school in Nederland. I don’t even think about it I just do it like breathing. I may not have knitted consistently but every time I pick up my needles it is like you are with your best friend again.
I appreciate how both explanations of the increase complement one another. I am sure that Arne is a great cook. Please don't quit. We learn from our mistakes. :)
I’m just getting back into knitting and I am SO GLAD I have discovered you guys! I took a couple of days to really practice continental knitting and the Norwegian purl and whilst I was struggling initially I absolutely love it now!! Next on the list is to learn to increase and decrease. Two questions: 1. From what I understand, in-/decreases are usually worked on the knitted instead of the purled side. But can you use this increase on the purl side, too? 2. Does this increase lean into any particular direction like other increases? Thank you so much for sharing this art with us ♥️
The lifted increase has always been my favorite because of the resulting beautiful fabric. Calling it Norwegian is icing on the cake!
We are glad you liked it.
I really enjoy this 'revisiting' series -- it's been so helpful as I continue to increase my usage of Norwegian-style work. My k & p stitches are getting smoother & quicker all the time, and I like that you go back & forth so we get the benefit of both of your teaching styles. Tak!

Thank you Letty, and well done!
This is exactly what I was looking for. And YES, I want to see Arne cooking. Thank you as always. You are awesome.
I love how you explained the increase Arne!
It's the first time I've seen the lifted increase and it makes so much sense!!! I've knitted since 1968 when my baby sitter taught me :) thanks so much!!!
You are welcome!
Many thanks, Arne and Carlos! This method is SUPERB! I am grateful for your ongoing enthusiasm, humor, perspectives and instruction!
I really love when you make your videos you two are so compassionate in what you do
Thank you!
Thank you. I've just finished a pair of mittens yesterday and used this increase for the thumb gusset instead of M1, picking up the loop before the stitch. It looks awesome there are no holes. Will use this all the time now.
Thank you. This sounds so easy. Glad you are both feeling well.

Love it, I will definitely try it. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you both.

Thank you - always good to learn new and efficient ways of knitting. And, yes, we did see Arne cooking waffles and he did a good job!
That is true.
I just keep on watching you two because you make me feel happy. All of your information is valuable of course but it also makes me smile.
Thank you!
Thanks, Arne and Carlos, hope you are both enjoying your quiet moments, healing with nature. Take your time.

Thank you for your video clips. I am learning to knit the continental way and I am finding it is quite quick and not tiring.
You are welcome, we are glad you are enjoying them!
Love them both. Was comfortable and very clear and easy. Thanks 🙏

I love you guys. Really enjoy your videos and teaching techniques. Still working on mastering Norwegian style. It is the best!
Keep up the good work Debra!
Love your Norwegian knitting videos.
Thank you Mary Dee
I love your way of increasing - it is brilliant and so easy. I learned it from your Knit Stars mitten workshop.
Great!
I agree, the lifted increase is smoother in terms of technique and makes a nicer fabric. Thanks so much for another great vid!
You are welcome, thank you for watching!
Good to learn new ways to knit efficiently. Thank you. 👍🙂
You are welcome!

No frills, no holes! One of life’s persistent problems solved. 🙏🏽 Love you guys! Herzlichen Dank.
Thank you!
Wow❣️ I love how easy this is 🙌🙌 I’m going to try this on my next sweater with raglan increasing...no more M1L and M1R or remembering which way to increase to get the slant left /right. Thank You❤️❤️

Yes Arne, would love 💘 to see you cooking!
Thank you Lorrie.
I love this way to increase!! Thank you!!!

I’ve been using this method of increase and it’s my method of increase choice! Easy Peasy! Thank you!!
You are welcome Lynn.
That's so cool! I'm so glad i watched how you increase in knitting AND how you hold your needles. It feels better in my wrists and fingers...I can't thank you enough! Saying Hello from Michigan, USA!

I love this way of increasing. Easy and almost invisible. 👌
We are glad you find it useful!

It is a great way to increase. Hope you are fully recovered and enjoying Spring in your garden. Greetings from Pittsburgh.
Ruth Hendricks Unfortunately Carlos is far from recovered. The virus hit him hard. We have hopes that he will be Back to his old self after summer.
Good increase with no holes, thats a pleasure.

Love your practicality 💕
Thank you!
It is simple and easy. I will try it. Thank you Carlos for the tutorial. No more M1L or M1R
You are welcome!
So simple, love it. I've nothing to increase at the moment but will try it today as a test. Logically it seems the perfect way and as you say ... won't leave any holes or gaps. Thanks 😁👍 Stay well.
Good luck!
I started this way after you explained about the mother, daughter etc. and it's so easy. Thank you for going back over it, i'm sorry Carlos still isn't feeling 100% well, I hope you are having a restful time off. Take care of yourselves....
Thank you!
🥰 you guys are the best!
Thank you Josefina!
You are welcome, and thank you for watching.
My Grandma taught me this way when I was a child. I didn't know there were other ways. Love your chats. Hope you are both recovered from the post viral tiredness now xxx
Thank you Suzanne, we are getting better everyday!
Totally agree.

Welcome to our channel Kelly and happy knitting!
Thanks! So straightforward and helpful!
Arne seems just thrilled at the prospect of doing more cooking. 😂
Ha ha
One of my favorite increases! I would love to see Arne cook dinner for Carlos! :-)
Yes!
I love your way of increasing
Thank you!
WOW, so easy I love it!!

Loving your sweater Arne! Would love to see a video on increasing / decreasing colour work yokes
Thank you for the suggestion!

We are glad to read your comment and well done on learning the Norwegian purl. Keep up the good work and some say it can be more ergonomic.
You just put me in the mood to knit a Christmas ball!
Always time for some Christmas.
A few years ago I researched all the possible ways to increase and tried them all. This technique resulted in the best looking increases.
Cindy Walker 👍🏼
Thank you, it does look easy. Will definitely be trying this increase. Yes Arne, want to see you cook 🤣🤣🤣🤣. 🧵🧵🇨🇦
Thank you!
Love you as always!
Thank you!
Thank you gentlemen, I have just ripped out my knitting as I could not get a satisfactory result increasing in the middle of a row. This is so easy now that I have seen you demonstrating it. I am not a very confident knitter. Yet!

Wow! I wished I would have been doing that years ago .

I love the LLI and the RLI. Sometimes you need a leaning direction.
Thank you for teaching this
You are welcome!
💚🌷💜 Just to let you know I am still busy knitting my birds😁 I have done one for every week of our lockdown so now doing bird no 10 😱😁🧶🦅 They look good even if I say so myself 😂😂
Wow, keep up the good work.
Show us !!
Hi Arne & Carlos. Glad you are both well. Here's my vote to see Arne cook🍲👨🍳
We are getting better everyday, thank you for asking!

Have fun!
Oh it's a very interesting efficient way to increase. Easier than mine. Y did increasing before taking the horizontal part of stitch of the last row from the right needle. This method gives a very good result but it requires a bigger effort. Thank you. I will try yours on
Good luck.
Topic for future discussion--how do you design self-striping yarns?
Thanks for your feedback - we will put that on our to do list!
Thank you !!! I can do it !🥰😍👍👍the purl ! Cha cha cha ...
New subscriber and I feel like you two are going to up my game. Thank you. It’s a bit like never ever drink tea in England with your pinky finger up - even tho everyone in the world thinks that’s how it’s done. 🤣
Welcome to our channel!
; ) At least you know we are paying attention when the only critique is the title. Thanks for the demonstration.
An honest mistake to make. Thanks for letting us know, it's changed now.
That is a great way of describing knitting!
I share Arne.s funny attitude about cooking.. I must try this method of increasing.. Thankyou
You are welcome!
I appreciate how both explanations of the increase complement one another. I am sure that Arne is a great cook. Please don't quit. We learn from our mistakes. :)
That is very true!
I’m just getting back into knitting and I am SO GLAD I have discovered you guys! I took a couple of days to really practice continental knitting and the Norwegian purl and whilst I was struggling initially I absolutely love it now!! Next on the list is to learn to increase and decrease. Two questions:
1. From what I understand, in-/decreases are usually worked on the knitted instead of the purled side. But can you use this increase on the purl side, too?
2. Does this increase lean into any particular direction like other increases?
Thank you so much for sharing this art with us ♥️
