The porch and landscaping looks amazing. Gutters would be a great help to divert the water away from the house and they aren't that expensive considering the benefit.
I was surprised the house does not seem to have them.
At my last house the sump pump was running more than I thought it should, until I fixed all the downspout extensions

Love how the landscaping and porch turned out! Our basement had some minor dampness issues when we moved in 32 years ago. We put up rain gutters/downspouts and had the grade sloped away from the house. We haven't had any problems since then!

Looks amazing; curb appeal does matter! Dawn was right again! Woohoo! Raising that board up on the porch made such a good difference and being that you get snow there it makes for easier snow removal off the side of the porch I guess. lol The X design is great.

That project and the porch looks FANTASTIC! UNFORTUNATELY I'm watching you from my bed. 😢 My landlord decided to leave off the railings of our front porch to save money. Several days ago, I was walking up the yard to avoid the steep concrete steps, and my foot got caught in a divit in the lawn. My foot twisted over and I broke my foot in 3 places. I am out of commission for at least 8 weeks. I really commend you all for being responsible, capable, motivated, landowners with good 💕 hearts. You are a rare treasure. I live vicariously through you both.❤ God bless you!
Looking great! Couple thoughts: Are there gutters? That will help divert water too. Downspouts should have extensions to route water about 10 feet away from foundation (and won’t wash away the rock).
I’m also confused/concerned - if using plastic sheeting, how will the plants get water- like adequate natural water? Plants need water at their drip line (where roots are) and roots reach out for water.

I love how you care about everything when most people don't really care so long as it looks halfway decent. OMG! What an amazing improvement! The gravel bed really cleaned up the appearance of the front of the house, and I'd sit on the porch stairs and drink my morning coffee every day.
My brother from Utah just visited me in Indiana. He’s a great handyman, too. He put in new outdoor carpet on my front porch, which took a lot of prep work since he sanded and repainted the plywood underneath so the rain won’t soak in. We also stained the railing, and he installed a light, and repaired a light and a doorknob, etc. He’s my favorite fixer upper, but you’re my second favorite, Tom!

I love how the deck turned out! I think with spindles, it is a safety issue of kids getting stuck and not falling. I think it looks amazing. Your renters will like it.

Just a thought: renters are people who want a nice, attractive place to live, just like homeowners. I was a renter until I was 50 years old and bought my first house. We are not a different breed of human just because we pay rent to live in someone's property. The last time I rented, I did more upkeep on my house than the landlord did, just because I enjoy doing gardening and handywork. Needless to say, he loved me as a tenant. When you find the right tenant for your lovely farmhouse, they will love every single upgrade you have made and strive to improve the home every day.
The steps, porch and landscaping are beautiful. Thanks for showing how the edger works. I've never rented one, but am thinking of just the right project now that I see how easy they are to use. You have done so much already to make this house beautiful.
The addition of gutters helps tremendously on water control.

I haven't even watched the video yet... but here's my take. Papa focuses on the tool shed, barn, horse pasture, etc. That's all he wants or needs. Mama wants a build a nest and make a home. She wants it to be pretty and she might even want to putter around and plant a flower. Now....couple is out looking for a place to rent. Both have the utility amenities they require....but one is simply prettier, more inviting and welcoming. Guess which one they are going to lease... You got it !! Go with Dawn and plant the blasted bushes.... lol

Great job! I would not have used white rock on the flowerbed because it doesn’t pop against the light colored house. I would have gone with a dark mulch. But overall much improved!

Well done! Porch turned out great!Gutters will help keep water out of your basement. When you stain the porch, consider white for the rails and cedar for the landing and stairs.

Tom (and Dawn), you did such an awesome job on the landscaping and the front porch! I love it!❤. I love the rocks in the landscaping. I wanted to do that so badly at our house but i thought the cost may have been too much. I did the plastic with mulch and my husband had to go back to our hone improvement store 4 times to keep getting more mulch! It's crazy how much material is needed for landscaping! I so look forward to Fridays to see what's new with your properties. Thanks for taking us along for the ride... you're rocking it! 💙😎🤘
