      100%, but I think there's a long term play behind it. MixedMollyWhoppery did a good video on the situation that you might find interesting, I'd definitely recommend giving it a listen. The thing about Alex is that we don’t need to “test” him at light heavyweight anymore. He isn’t on the same path as other fighters. He has the opportunity to be come a triple champ and we should allow him the opportunity to be different and attempt it. If he fails then he can go back to fight at light heavyweight. But not allowing him the opportunity because he needs to fight the wrestler and all this talk of the next opponent is unnecessary. He is already a star he is someone who is established and to say he “skipped the line” he answered the call to fight and did it. U do not punish someone for stepping up twice already. Give that chance to be the first modern triple champ. History in the making

    • @Grannyknockers
      @Grannyknockers 2 месяца назад +5

      I agree. Reward fighters who are active. Alex has fought 7x in the last 24 months and all 7 were against current, future, or former champs.

    • @LarryMayvid
      @LarryMayvid 2 месяца назад +2

      Considering Ankalaev isn't gonna wrestle anyways, he's not even gonna get that test. Where Jan failed to finish Ank, Alex will get it done. Gonna be interesting to see what the narrative is if that is indeed how it goes
      That said, as much as I want to see it, the IC should be next in line. Then Alex. Assuming Jon loses to either Stipe or Tom/Curtis, that match would make even more sense, and Alex could be next for him if he loses to Stipe. Which I personally think will happen, by KO. And if that's how it goes, Alex's chances may be greatly improved.

  • @theWayoftheHero

    The UFC is holding up the heavyweight division, not Stipe, by not stripping Jones due to his injury and proceeding inactivity. They did this to 2 light heavyweight champions in a row, but now Jones gets a pass. And because of that they issued another meaningless "belt" and now that "belt" is being defended, even though the interim belt itself is supposed to represent the guaranteed #1 contender next in line to fight the champion. They should have stripped Jones and put Aspinall against Stipe or someone else for the vacant belt.

  • @JimChap
    @JimChap 2 месяца назад +5

    It's no fault of Stipe's; Dana White is the one holding up the heavyweight division. Rightly or wrongly, he has placed his respect for the man and what he thinks Stipe deserves above the prospect of seeing the 2 actual BEST heavyweights in the world fighting - one of which is clearly Tom Aspinall.

      This is true. I’m guilty of it too. It’s hard to recognize a guy as world champion when there’s a guy out there you think can beat him. @LarryMayvid 2 месяца назад +1

      Fair to think it shouldn't be Jon's next fight, but the only way to think it's a layup for Jon and uninteresting purely because of that is if you're either not actually very familiar with Stipe's style, skills, and attributes or if you're just bought and sold on the notion that he's too old or whatever. Which I truly, genuinely don't mean in a disrespectful or condescending way. I get it.
      But, as far as style, skills, and attributes, he's a bad matchup for Jon. He's also in better shape physically and mentally. He may be older on paper, but heavy drinking and regular drinking, as well as drug use, all speed up biological aging for Jon. Jon is no spring chicken, and he's coming off an injury. His last fight that lasted longer than a round was before Stipe's last fight and that 2.5 minutes wasn't enough to stage off any potential ring rust, especially considering that it will have been 18 months since then when he fights again.
      Ring rust is mostly nerves and timing. Stipe will have done much more sparring in the year leading up to this fight and he deals with higher pressure situations every week for his regular job.
      Personally, I think Stipe is gonna be the first to KO Jon

In lieu of that injuries, negotiation jargon, etc. Came into play. So, if anyone else was in Stipe's position, I am sure you guys would wait for Jon Jones. Because it would be potentially the last fight of their careers, a fight for legacy, and money. It all makes sense as to why Stipe opted to wait.

No, Aspinal now has to defend a belt he will be stripped of the moment Stipe v Jones happens, and both fighters in Jones vs Stipe are 100% retiring after that fight! This has been one big shit show cuz Dana wanted to destroy Francis Ngannou for leaving without losing the precious belt! Jones gets to fight Gane, who also lost to Ngannou and lost two title fights before that, and now Jones gets to skip over the number 1 heavyweight currently still fighting, and he gets to hand pick Stipe off 4 years couch and KO loss for his "legacy fight" and fans get fucked when Jones and Stipe both retire! Then Aspinal will have to fight a 3rd title fight in a row, if he beats Blaydes, before he gets the actual belt, and none will be against the current champion!

    Stiepe has how many straight wins in the division as heavyweight champion. It’s only like three or four and his last fight was a fucking knock out. And it was him they got knocked the fuck out. I think it’s the new CEOs who are making this decision and changing up the format wherever they think they could make money over the best people.

    Jones is right. Tom Aspinall is just not a super-fight and no one cares. He doesn't capture the collective imagination like Ngannou or Gane, is probably mostly unknown to most viewers, he doesn't bring anything new or PPV $ points to the table. Jones got screwed and wanted Ngannou... now I'm 100% he would be way more interested in fighting Pereira.

    People have receny bias. They forget he already held up the division for 3 years when jones was defending his LHW title. DC did the same thing out of spite when he got the belt, then he lost it to stipe, whom again held up the division, then lost it to francis.. So yeah... This is super common in the heavyweight division. Id bet this division has the most interim title belts

      "He's been trying to get s fight for 2 years now". The UFC is CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED to offer EVERY fighter 3 fights a year. If a fighter isn't fighting 3 times a year, it means they declined the UFC's offer. Otherwise Stipe can sue the UFC for breach of contract.

      @@njmallday So has Jon, and years of regular, heavy drinking quite literally accelerates biological aging. It's shown in his diminished movement and speed in his last few fights, especially against Gane. He very narrowly managed to beat Santos, who wrecked his knee halfway through the fight and who still managed to win 1 or 2 rounds after that.
      Meanwhile, Stipe has been clean and making a living doing something that requires him to stay in great shape physically, and that also keeps him mentally sharp, dealing with extremely high pressure scenarios that require the ability to make decisions and change his gameplan in a split second. Solid wrestling and has never been submitted, even by Werdum, better boxing than Jon, and true one punch KO power. He's a very tough matchup for Jon, and he's in better shape. Even more so when you consider that Jon is coming back from an injury

      And people still act like he's some hero for fighters. He said himself that the UFC had offered him enough money that he was even willing to forget about boxing but the deal breaker was that his pay would go down significantly if he lost to Jones, as if that doesn't happen to every champ when they lose the title. The important part of that, though, is the deal breaker wasn't fighters not getting health insurance or any of that - it was him not being guaranteed enough money regardless of if he won or lost. Now he's still trying to box again before fighting in the PFL while Davis is saying his next fight will be in the PFL. Clearly not good to work with and none of his potential opponents over there will ever get that guaranteed million if he never fights them
