- "This track talks about the past problems and current crisis in the Catholic church, where crimes such as rampant child abuse are coming to light. The main character in the song is a member of the church who is either guilt-ridden from his own sins, yet trying to deflect and project the blame elsewhere just so he can sleep at night, or a member of the church who knows full well of the atrocities being committed by his organization, but because he himself has done nothing wrong, he can sleep like a baby. It begs the individuals in the Church to take responsibility for their faith, whether guilty directly, or through being complicit by inaction."
Are used to listen to this song when I was homeless, and had no place to sleep, it was comforting to me.

I wish U2 would play this song for the Pope and Cardinals. It is an anthem for children everywhere that were abused or are being abused by priests.
And yet they remain fully paid up members? If i was in a club that did that i wouldn't stick around. Only in religion do you get this.
Not many people know, this song is extremely dark, sarcastic and full of condemnation. It is about catholic priest scandal of child abuse and the church coverup. Bono is actually singing to the abusive catholic priests and the church. This song is truly haunting especially when you consider the suffering and pain an abused child goes through.
I figured that out when the boy kneeled at 1:14. So sad that the very person so many people trust in is so downright evil...

Sleep Like A Baby Tonight and The Troubles are great songs and the best songs on SOI, both also sound very different compared to the rest of the album
Thats kind of like serenity and voodoo for godsmack. Both are opposite from their normal heavier stuff, but so good. No comparison to these guys, but U2 really knows how to hide messages, and this really shows that.
Definitely my favourite song from the album.

I love the song, I do not get tired of listening the song over and over perhaps I am a weird, listening to the song's lyrics and watching the video is a total different animal, based on the lyrics while listening, I portrayed perhaps someone that just woke up from being stoned walking toward the kitchen getting his toast, tea and sugar and thinking when he gets to the office, he will continue reading his article about the politicians lovers, so the day will flight without he noticed because he was so deep into that article.
Then he is wearing black and white, the colors of forgiveness and his purple robe is hanging on the kitchen chair that he left it there when he woke up before putting his toast in the toaster while heating the water in the tea pot.
I understand that the chorus is just his thoughts in his mind that he will do it again (get stone) again with whatever substances he is using.
Finally, when he said someone else's suicide, is like how he is feeling when he wakes up. At least the first paragraph of the song led me to think that way, but when I saw the video was very disturbing for me, how an adult male abuse of a innocent life with power over nothing, and his little friends in the dorm are looking what is going on and they only thing that they can do is to turn the blind eye or look to the other side knowing that they would be a victim next.
Well, that was my interpretation of the song, disturb.
this music is just questioning how people who claims to teach god can be so subhuman, so dirty so cruel , can sleep like a baby while children who suffer at their hands will probably be one more suicide in the future .

I ended up liking this song more then the other on the album. This was automatically on my iPhone from purchase. So I decided to get a glimpse into the story and find the video.. finding out Bono was the lead singer... and the video places you in the realm of the lyrics. I was hypnotized by the visual of this track. I was shocked they hit it so openly without fear.! This track was brave and courageous. I’m not sure of their true intent of opinion. But this has got to have the elites overwhelmed with joy. They got exactly what they wanted. Did the devil win?

I listened to Katy Perry's "Dark Horse", and judging by the tone of the song, I actually thought that Katy would be walking down this dark alley and she runs into a dark horse. When I saw the music video, I was shocked because it's too bright and colourful and above all, it takes place in Ancient Egypt.

I'm not Catholic nor is Jesus. I belong to no religion and Jesus only belonged to Judaism. I dislike all religion like Jesus who told that all repeated prayers without sincerity are just tinkling bells in the ears of God. We all want our blessed Savior to return as our King on Earth. Paul (Bono) is wonderful for pointing out injustice in this world. Please keep shining your light on injustice. God created the Earth and all, but not this world. Humans created this present world of darkness and until our Lord returns, let's solve our problems. We will be better as people to do this best we can with the tools we have been given from God/Jesus. I sweep and clean my home daily. First of all, it's not the Church itself that did these horrendous actions, it was severely misguided individuals who needed aid mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Secondly, the Church - since the uncovering of these actions during the reign of Pope St. John Paul II - has done a lot in order to stop the abuse, bring the perpetrators to justice, and to bring comfort to those who were affected. Third, the Catholic Church is not the only organization which has gone through a scandal like this. Many other organizations have gone through the same thing. For example, the Anglican Church had many more cases with a lot more victims, yet that never seems to come to light.
The reason why it's worse when it happens in a church is because y'all act so holier-than-thou towards us then it turns out your priests have been sexually abusing little boys and it's being covered up lol.
