I own an ATTO3 for three weeks, I have found out it has pretty good energy efficiency. It gives me a performance equivalent to 25 km per litre of petrol, which is as good as a small hybrid car. The car can be charged from 10% to 80% (an added range of about 290 km) in about an hour using DC50 charger. Good enough for me. By the way, I drive under eco mode where the response is quick enough. Very impressive BYD, everything looks advanced and quite cool. After years of developement, BYD is definitely the pioneer brand representing Chinese e car industry, those cool brands are dominating the world very quickly. Thanks for the review.
Now THAT's the first - to my eyes anyway - genuinely good looking, 'classy' and long lasting design of an EV I've seen. It's out of my price band and, to be honest, not what I want these days from a car any more...mind you, I did in the past and enjoyed them. This is so refreshing to see. The Korean's seem to, again just my view, have run out of ideas and are producing styling that doesn't look like it'll stand the test of time. This though, very nice both outside and in. China knows what it's doing it seems. Seems to be well put together as well. Now if they can put some of this style into the more affordable models - they haven't truly arrived yet of course but they're coming it seems - things are looking rosy. And thanks goodness the literature on the back end has gone! Nice review - as ever - very nice car.

I'm very pleased to see they've removed the "Build Your Dreams" badging from the rear, it was one of the few things I really didn't like when I saw the original video. Great review. I have at BYD Atto 3 here in Denmark, and I think I'll go with the SEAL if the price i right. Does the Seal come with Rain sensor for the wipers. The Atto 3 don't have which I find strange in 2023.

Hi, thanks for the review, I’ve been following the seal, looking forward to it being available in Australia. The recent Chinese face lift had the electrically colour adjusting sunroof added as standard for the 4 wheel drive champion version, do you know if that’s the case for the European version or will it be available as an option?
Great revieuw best looking sedan on the market! (but its a sedan) If you are set on a goodlooking car then this cars amazing in real. For me the consumption was the killer. (570km with 82kWh) vs the benchmark Tesla 600+km with 75kWh
Does it have a heatpump? I assume so but curious to know. Do you think those seats will be comfy on a long drive say anywhere from 600-1000km? I suspect the AU spec will have towing and roofbox but have to wait and see for the official launch to know for sure.
If the seats in the Atto 3 are anything to go by, super super comfortable, one point though headrest could do with being able to adjust front to back as well as height as it sometimes gets slightly irritating it's so forward.
That LKA will be a melt on Irish back roads where you very often have to cross a demarcated central line. It looked like a 5-6 touch to get it off too which is not exactly handy (maybe you can set up a shortcut?) The other thing about this car is that if it is around the €50-52,000 mark they will sell tonnes of them here. BYD will be delighted with that, but you won't feel all special driving it after December 2023 when every forecourt in the country is full of them. The last thing I will say is that at 535hp for the AWD, it would be the cheapest car per horsepower unit ever sold in Ireland anyway.
@colmfinlay1623 The LKA on my Atto3 is a melt just driving around the city, back roads is actually dangerous sometimes with the way the steering snaps really aggressively...and it requires you to be in P to deactivate them.
@@philhalpin4882 Having to disable LKA for every trip would be such a pain. We already have to do it in the Model 3 for narrower Australian country roads - I would assume that in Ireland that'd mean just about every drive. Then there's the BYD LKA, which is even more touchy. If re-enabling at turn-on is a legislative requirement, they should provide a home screen shortcut to disable, because these cars are actually less safe with it on.
pity the charge port is on the right hand side for V2/V3 tesla superchargers open to BYD, it looks like a great EV to me (current model 3 driver) the adaptive suspension is what the model 3 is missing on Irish back roads! good to see more Tesla competition, just have to wait to see Model 3 highland for comparison.and of course the 60kw battery version prices. great video Derek
BYD SEAL, l have my Seal in black 3 weeks now and l am sorry to say but l found a serious issue regarding the NFC card, if you leave it anywhere near the wireless charging hub it will burn the card out completely that's what happened to mine and a new card had to be ordered, so please be careful where you put this card in the car, l don't understand why the center storage has a NFC imprint on it because it serves no purpose.
An M3 challenger surely. Need to see hatchbach (seal L?). When you lowered the back seats i thought I might get my bike in, but worried about height. The car needs a one button deactivation for lane assist to reduce time eyes off road. Interested in seeing the price of 61kw battery version. Price will have to be well below m3 to convince people to go for an unknown brand. A real "sit up and look at me" video. Thanks Derek. Keep up the good work.
it's crazy to think the chinese EV cars in europe are 50% more expensive than in china, but we still think they are cheaper than western's EV cars. imagine how long we've been the customers of overpriced cars from our own country
This is the first BYD model that could tempt me... but it hasn't got a tailgate. It honestly astonishes me that the Model 3 got so much traction in Europe because of that factor. However, as soon as Tesla started selling the Model Y it overtook the 3. No surprises there. I really, really want BYD to do well in Europe. I like the philosophy of the company, and I like the fact that they are still able to compete against CATL in battery production. However, I have been extremely disappointed by the models that they have already started to sell in Europe. Both the Atto 3 and Dolphin have no towing capability and are FWD and they really aren't all that efficient. I like the idea of the Seal, and I think it looks really neat as well as being RWD. However, the Seal has no hatch, and thus is completely useless to me. I've yet to see whether it will have any towing capacity. But what has seriously disappointed me is the pricing of BYD's offers and the very restricted dealer network available in most European countries (I can't say all, because I haven't checked for every one). In order to gain traction in Europe, BYD has to go head-to-head with the current leaders of the "Chinese invasion" in the case of the former models, that means MG. And BYD's pricing just isn't hitting the right notes.I could be tempted by the Atto 3 or Dolphin if the price was right, but just over (atto 3) and only just under (Dolphin) the price of the MG 4 really isn't going to get them many sales. And in the case of the Seal, a price that is HIGHER than the entry level Model 3 is simply absurd. I am no fan of the model 3, but could be persuaded to go for one (in spite of Elon Musk - who I truly detest) because it has serious towing capacity. But €2000 MORE for the base Seal? I just don't see it. I'd also say that BYD needs to decide where it is trying to position the brand; is it a premium brand like Tesla, or is it a mass market brand , like MG. I know that Tesla has managed to bridge the gap between the 2 markets, but that just shows how desperate buyers are for efficient EVs. But BYD is neither convincing in 1 or the other of these markets. And if they want to gain some traction in Europe, they need to address these concerns, address their pricing policy, and produce cars which Europeans want to buy.
Here in Hong Kong, they are being sold in a price similiar to that in Europe, which is roughly EUR 80K more than that in Mainland China. To me, BYD’s edge is on the very fact that it maintains considerable patents in EV battery and have been supplying such to Telsa, plus the lifetime warranty for battery.
@@desmondchia1934 I'm not aware of a lifetime battery. In Europe, here it is 8 years, just the same as all the others. I am also aware of their connection with Tesla, but OI am also aware that Tesla also uses CATL batteries, and CATL have the significant advantage of the Condensed Matter battery. In fact, it seems that CATL now have a significant competetive advantage over BYD in that they have better batteries at entry level (NaCl), standard level (LFP) and at premium level (CM) It seems to me that BYD is trying to do too much all at the same time: batteries, cars, passenger transport and goods vehicles. I just don't see that they're doing anything especially well.
@@desmondchia1934 Not true. The Seal costs between 300,000 and 350,000 HKD in Hong Kong, which is about 35K-41K euros. The Atto 3 costs only 240,000 HKD, which is only 28K euros. So much cheaper than in Europe.
@@NissinXXX All HK vehicles are taxed at sale, somewhere around 70%. Took a look at the Seal recently, the true price (incl. taxes and registration fees) was 630k HKD for thr AWD model (81k Euros)

Thanks for the comment both. I found the bonnet good quality but my mic may not have picked up the best sound. The GoPro footage in the rear with a rush job of folding the seats may not have given the best impression
Very nice looking car, just the price will be an issue, it needs to be just below Telsa 3 to begin with to establish its feet in Europe and other countries.
I am a business driver for the last 30 years...... I would have no issues buying one of these even with like for like pricing compared to the competition in it's class. A KiaEV6 with this level of spec is 65k in Ireland. Ioniq6 similar. BMW i4 e40 70k.....cheapest Model 3 available with not a single option is 45k If this RWD is available to buy between 45 - 48k they will roll out of the showrooms on their own!!!
Thanks Derek... great video. The Dark Mode on the infotainment is much easier on the eye. If 50k (ish) is for the AWD 3.8s model.......they won't be able to keep them in stock! In general....how would you rate the build quality/fit&finish?
I watched both reviews and the first one made me sell our Q4 and order a BYD Seal instead. I do miss the comparison between the rwd and the awd, since you had the chance to actually test both of them. Most reviews are just about the awd 🤷♂️
I just purchased a BYD SEAL 3 weeks ago in black after trading a Renault Megane E-Tech, to date l have 2 issues which needed to be addressed when reported to BYD North Rd,Dublin. 1st problem , the NFC card would not work after 1 week and l was alarmed to hear that if you leave the NFC card near the wireless charging port the card will most definitely burn out so l think this is what's happened to mine. The 2nd issue l have is the BYD app for the SEAL, l was told that it will not work when downloaded they say that the new procedure for activation is a QR code to be scanned from your phone to car but unfortunately the SEAL needs a software update for this to work and BYD does not know when the new firmware will be made available. Regarding the NFC problem if it burns out the card while placed near the wireless hub could this generate a fire??.
I've not heard any issues about panel gaps. This was a pre-production car for European roads. Sorry to hear about the NFC card. I don't think a fire hazard. They are usually very quick with the app updates so fingers crossed
Thanks for the update on the European version of the Seal! The 50k price that you mentioned, is it for the awd? I heard in my BYD dealer in Belgium that the other option would be around 45k.
At €50k, it's a non starter for me. Even €45k is marginal given that BYD will probably only have a limited support network outside of major European cities and it would be a first off Chinese vehicle for me. It appears though to be a great vehicle and certainly it has the looks. Let's see.
I believe the base model is well specced and still has the panoramic sunroof and likely more range. If it was close to 40k it will probably do well.@@NevoEVReviewIreland

best looking sedan on the market! (but its a sedan)
If you are set on a goodlooking car then this cars amazing in real.
For me the consumption was the killer. (570km with 82kWh) vs the benchmark Tesla 600+km with 75kWh
Yes, not great but not bad
I love BYD
Seems lots do too
Do the windows go down fully?
In the front yes. In the back I can't remember
had a ride in one of these, 1 of 1 in new zealand. Very nice and very fast haha
Nice one!
Awesome!
Glad you think so!
No need china mixer, hopening for you new job, serious job
Thanks
Does it have a heatpump? I assume so but curious to know. Do you think those seats will be comfy on a long drive say anywhere from 600-1000km? I suspect the AU spec will have towing and roofbox but have to wait and see for the official launch to know for sure.
Yes, heatpump as standard. I found the seat really good and forgot to mention they are heated and cooled
If the seats in the Atto 3 are anything to go by, super super comfortable, one point though headrest could do with being able to adjust front to back as well as height as it sometimes gets slightly irritating it's so forward.
Hi Derek, How does the sound system sound like ? and is Android Auto / Car Play wireless ?
It was good Joe and yes, wireless connection for both.
Hey, another great video. Is there any chance of a night time interior look with the ambient lighting and how it all looks?
I'll have it again with the Irish launch and will film that for you.
I wonder how many will be allocated to Ireland?
Tesla seem to be doing well keeping stock here now after covid times
@colmfinlay1623
The LKA on my Atto3 is a melt just driving around the city, back roads is actually dangerous sometimes with the way the steering snaps really aggressively...and it requires you to be in P to deactivate them.
With prices now out, what do you think?
@@NevoEVReviewIreland They will sell tonnes of these. They should make people resit the driving test for 500+ HP cars
Interesting point on the charge port location. In Ireland we don't have superchargers opened up to other OEMs just yet. The suspension was lovely.
Impressive Car
Agree. Thanks for the comment
we have hail once in a while here in Australia. I can’t help worrying if that sun roof is solid enough for it. 😢
Great question, with the new larger hail showers, I understand don't think many roofs are safe metal or glass
The rear light bar has a Merc EQ-e look.
Correct!
2nd time I've heard this!
So nice looking car, much more beautiful than Tesla
Lots of people are liking the looks for sure
Does it come with cooling in the front seats ?
Yea, heating and cooling in the front seats.
Seal L is just the refreshed version of BYD Song EV, a crossover SUV that is slightly cheaper than Seal.
Oh I would have said the Seal L for you too Des.
Are the seats ventilated? I know it's not a big deal in Ireland, but in Southern Europe it is would be a great addition.
I believe they are ventilated and heated in the dual motor awd version, not sure about the other versions.
Correct, heated and ventilated.
it's crazy to think the chinese EV cars in europe are 50% more expensive than in china, but we still think they are cheaper than western's EV cars. imagine how long we've been the customers of overpriced cars from our own country
I'd have to agree
Great review, great car but doesn’t hold a candle to tesla. Now the highland was released. How is this priced ?
Did you see the price?
In fact, it seems that CATL now have a significant competetive advantage over BYD in that they have better batteries at entry level (NaCl), standard level (LFP) and at premium level (CM)
It seems to me that BYD is trying to do too much all at the same time: batteries, cars, passenger transport and goods vehicles.
I just don't see that they're doing anything especially well.
Thanks both for the comments. Time and sales numbers will tell the story in the long run
Great looking car.
What colour would you go for?
I WANT ONE!
Seems very popular
Cool, since it's approved by German, I feel good buying one now.

Oh man' I'm super impressed and make no mistake coming to Bavaria is a statement of intent on German home soil. Great review but I just would like to know what their plans are for right hand dive models? Just imagine we are still really early in electric car development. The next 10 years will be wild.
Available for purchase in Ireland 🇮🇪 in late September - early October (RHD)
The Atto3 is already on sale.
@@06younger Yup, I drive an Atto 3, great car.
Yes RHD coming very soon
Good to see they remove the waterdrops and Build Your Dream
Lots of people are saying the same
Battery charging time?
9 hrs on AC and 38 mins on DC
Wow I like it a lot more than model 3, hope they sell it in US soon.
Fingers crossed
Byd probably won’t be able to sell vehicles in the United States
Arguably the first car to overthrow M3. What discount to make me move from Tesla, at least 10% as it will depreciate faster.
A true contender and in looking forward to the head to head comparisons
Great review and a lovely looking car. Definetly one to pay attention to. Was it just me or did the bonnet sound cheap, clunky and metallic.🙂
I thought that, also when the seats where down, the material looked cheap and bitty on the backside and their resting position was uneven.
Thanks for the comment both. I found the bonnet good quality but my mic may not have picked up the best sound. The GoPro footage in the rear with a rush job of folding the seats may not have given the best impression
Glad they kept the Seal name. Hate the Atto 3 name on their compact SUV.
Think the Atto naming structure wasn't going to work for them. This was supposed to be the Atto 4 I believe
@@NevoEVReviewIreland Yes, Atto 4 was going to be the name for the Seal in Australia but it just sounds dumb and they must have realised this.
I couldn't see any child restraint anchor points for the rear...?
I think there are 2 in the rear for sure
Great car 👏
Looking forward to a longer drive
Very nice looking car, just the price will be an issue, it needs to be just below Telsa 3 to begin with to establish its feet in Europe and other countries.
Seems the price is doing just that
Looks great, just wish it was a hatch!
SEAL L/SONG L will be for you so
really like the chalk grey. deciding factor for many will be the price. if the price is right, can't see how anyone would take Tesla over the Seal.
Elon Fanboys...
Time and sales figures will tell the tale
Nice looking motor, however, to take market share they need to seriously undercut the competition IMO.
Time and sales numbers will tell. I think they are off to a great start
I am a business driver for the last 30 years...... I would have no issues buying one of these even with like for like pricing compared to the competition in it's class.
A KiaEV6 with this level of spec is 65k in Ireland. Ioniq6 similar. BMW i4 e40 70k.....cheapest Model 3 available with not a single option is 45k
If this RWD is available to buy between 45 - 48k they will roll out of the showrooms on their own!!!
Why does it have to be cheap because it’s Chinese?
It pisses over the 3
Production costs in China will be low, wages, regulations, workers rights all below European rivals. Does buying it lead to job losses etc in EU?
why Canada does not selling BYD or HUAWEI? they are so awesome.
They just launched in Mexico....
Derek, its a beauty! 😍 How will it be available in Ireland? Will there be dealerships?
Yep! 3 Dealers already in Ireland and price for the Seal coming on Monday with cars in Ireland next month I believe
The question is... Will it spontaniously combust like most Chinese electric cars?
Also, do they have sweatshops to do the interior?
Lots of false rumours going around about Chinese EVs.
Thanks Derek...
great video. The Dark Mode on the infotainment is much easier on the eye.
If 50k (ish) is for the AWD 3.8s model.......they won't be able to keep them in stock!
In general....how would you rate the build quality/fit&finish?
Very good. Fit and finish is top class.
I watched both reviews and the first one made me sell our Q4 and order a BYD Seal instead.
I do miss the comparison between the rwd and the awd, since you had the chance to actually test both of them.
Most reviews are just about the awd 🤷♂️
Apologies, it was a pre prototype and very short time with the car. Hopefully get more time in the new year with the RWD version
Is this one coparable to Model 3 ? One thing I feel is that it looks gorgeous really.
Head to head with the Model 3
11:57 - those boot panels not aligning right?
I’ve been expecting decent Chinese EV’s in Europe for a while. However, why nobody told BYD the Europeans stopped buying saloons years ago?
We still buy a few Model 3s
Every thing improved compared to 3
Well the older Model 3 now ha ha
Thanks for the update on the European version of the Seal! The 50k price that you mentioned, is it for the awd? I heard in my BYD dealer in Belgium that the other option would be around 45k.
At €50k, it's a non starter for me. Even €45k is marginal given that BYD will probably only have a limited support network outside of major European cities and it would be a first off Chinese vehicle for me. It appears though to be a great vehicle and certainly it has the looks. Let's see.
Yes, the AWD version. I'd say the entry level trim will be sub 45k.
I believe the base model is well specced and still has the panoramic sunroof and likely more range. If it was close to 40k it will probably do well.@@NevoEVReviewIreland
