I was on methadone for 25 yrs and 7 yrs ago switched to suboxone - I find the suboxone a much better program personally than methadone. Now in my early 60s I believe sincerely that the only reason I have lived a relatively 'normal' life is due to these programmes.
Wanna hear something crazy? Here in Finland practically every opioid is not addicted to Heroin, but to Subutex, which is just pure Buprenorphine without the Naloxone in Suboxone. Everyone who is addivted to Subutex start with snorting it and when that becomes toi expensive they (like me) switch to IV use, because those are the only 2 ways to use it recreationally, as nasally it's bio-availability is 80%-90% and with IV it of course 100%. Well actually now that I think about it, you can probably use it IM (Intra Muscularry) recreationally, but everyone in the early stages of addiction, who still have the regular fear of needles use it by snorting and everyone who's switching to needles is obviously going to use it IV, as IV always has the best possible bio-availability with 100% and the effects start ilmmediatly. Well actually Buprenorphine is kind of a weird/unique drug/substance/Opioid, because when you use it IV, if you have withdrawals, they go ilmmediatly away, but if you still get high from it, you won't start experience euphoria until like 5mins later after you've used it IV and it has a ceiling effect, so if you haven't taken any other downers it is physically impossible to od from it. There's sometimes Heroin available here, but it's almost always super cut (probably like 10%-35% pure usually.) I have personally used it 5 times during my 4.5 years of IV use I'm 22 now I was born in the year 2000 and I started experimenting with Subutex by snorting it first one month after I turned 17 and I first tried it via IV when I turned 18, but I still mainly snorted it for a few months, but then I started to use it via IV more and more until at probably the age of 19 I was an almost daily user. I would of course use it daily if I had the money, but I would say I used it more like 3-5 times a week, but sometimes I went a week to max 2 weeks without always at the end of the month, as we have a robust welfare system, so I get always at the start of the month 500€, which usually lasted from a few days (It rarely that little time, usually atleast a week) to 2 weeks, as I also used benzos and speed with Subutex. That's why when I went to maintenance treatment in december of 2020 I started it with Methadone and I'm still on it. The other option is suboxone and people usually start with that, but as you can't take Methadone and Bubrenorphine at the same time as you might die, if you do take them at the same time. So I wamted to start with Methadone, so I wouldn't use Subutex with the daily Suboxone.
If you are looking to doctors, or pills, or other things to be free, you will likely fail. Look to Jesus, and He will succeed. Look to Christ and He can set you free. Free from Heroin. Free from sin. of course methadone is the same drug not less effective then heroin. ..they say is for heroin treatment. ..but this is not true is to sale you legal heroin. ..im also did switch to methadone ...works out much cheaper and safet do it..my doctor give me every month 30 pills 40mg of methadone. ....but remembet one thing quit methadone is almost impossible. .only if you can go 30/40days cold turkey..wich is impossible for a human...
Methadone is an evil poison that I’ve been trying to get off for years. I kicked pills and heroin easier and faster. The Drs lied to me. It’s a death sentence. In almost 2 years I’ve gone from 140mg to 20mg, 1mg taper a week and I want to die. It’s all for the money, they don’t care about us addicts..
I'm going to take liquid methadone after doing H for years. Can I just take the liquid for a few days while the H works it way out? Then stop the liquid or will I have the same withdrawals as if I quit H?

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO STOP IT ALONE!!! Speak with your prescriber/health care professional; they and your counselor will work together as a team to lower your mgs if they deem that you are ready. You will begin the taper method. The best to you -- you've got this.

Heroin lasts just as long as most full agonist opioid medications such as codeine, hydrocodone and morphine. a dose is needed every 4-6 hours like most other full agonists.

Discuss with your Counselor how to begin to taper your Methadone dosage, this prepares your brain and body for future "total" non usage of Methadone.
