this is so cool!! i’m planning on getting a hognose soon and have been very interested in bioactive tanks. i would love to do this for whatever little guy i get!!
He's so cute 😍I wouldn't mind seeing some pictures of him sleeping and cruising around in there! Maybe some shorts? I'd find it very interesting to see where he sleeps in there! Hognose (probably snakes in general) sleep in the silliest positions! Lol 😂
You did a great job on this enclosure! I absolutely love Western Hognoses, your little guy is so handsome. You did a great job on selecting plants! Hope your ecosystem is thriving now, thanks for the great video!
Yes, I agree. I have three Hogs and two of them climb alot. They truly seem to love it. Very inquisitive. The other one does not climb much at all besides going up and over the cork bark and log. But that's just her. I strongly believe that you should give them the option to do so regardless. They won't be climbing like pythons but they will climb. Very beautiful habitat. I would suggest one thing for you and I believe you would love it. UNIVERSAL ROCKS background. That's the name. That will complete the whole thing. It comes with ledges and it increases the space actually used in the habitat not just floor space. It's rough so the Hog can grip onto it aswell. What you did is beautiful nonetheless! I wish more people kept them like we do. Because mine are in a habitat just like this (naturalistic). If someone is going to have them in a drawer then I don't see the logic behind having one. You want to see them exhibiting their natural behaviors and all the benefits that comes with.
The enclosure is awesome! We would love to see an update. Also being a bioactive enclosure, i dont think it must be needing much of a maintenance. But still we would like to see what you do to maintain the enclosure. Also the lights are LED and they look like that on camera usually.
I’m getting my first hognose this week and want to set up a bioactive enclosure. I’ve watched several videos of course, but just wanted to say I’ve enjoyed yours the most. Please post updates!!
I found some canyons and some zebras on morph mkt for 50¢ each, and I wish I had gone with them, but I figured the dwarf whites would prevent them from becoming established, and even at that price, I had already spent just waaaay too much money setting up a bioactive 18x18x24 for my first reptile, a crestie. It didn't turn out exactly how I wished, but I'm quite happy with it, nonetheless. I wish I could've made a video like you did, but idk anything about any of that lol. You did an amazing job on the video. I would love to see more. The vivarium looks amazing
I'm leaving another comment. The viv really does look amazing and Hoda clearly loves it. Cute snake, cute video, well done! It's rather large, it seems. Maybe it's big enough to house a couple and they could make some babies, and you could make more videos? Lol
hey i heard that you said as a blanket statement that succulents need a large amount of light, and im here to debunk this. I forgot the name but the large leafed plant at the left of the enclosure actually thrives in partial lighting. This may be why your luck with these types of plants isn't so great. Try googling each plants specific sun requirements and positioning the light so it covers the plants that need it most and partialy covers the ones that dont need so much. hopefully this helped. Good Luck!
It’s a snake plant. That plant prefers bright, indirect light. However, they will grow (albeit more slowly) in low-light areas as well. It can tolerate some direct sunlight but if you keep it in direct light all the time, it’s not going to be happy. Also, moving the plant from direct sunlight, to a low-light area too fast, can put the plant into shock.
I don't think that lighting would be too bright for any plants aside from those with the least light requirement. They're not super bright and the distance from the plants appears to be substantial, all things considered. Whether or not they meet the requirements of the succulents though? Some, possibly. Maybe that's why only some survived. It occurred to me that a drainage layer might help, since many succulents require more water than you would expect, but the soil must drain quickly.
thank you :)) honestly most of these plants failed through my trial and error :( but for the most part i water the plants once a week or as needed (for some plants it isn't every week), spot clean as necessary, and i occasionally throw in some extra food for the clean up crew (like a vegetable scrap). also things that need to happen less often include topping off the soil when it compresses over time and re-addind leaf litter/biodegradables :)
What heat mat and termostat did you use? And how did you place it? I want to build a terarium for my hognose, but i am not sure how to heat it yet. This looks really pretty.
hi ! i actually don't use a heat mat anymore. i recommend using a halogen heat bulb (like the ones from arcadia) and a dimming thermostat for the best basking opportunity :) thank you!
With our hognose, we did a very similar substrate and he ended up getting clumps of it caught in his mouth whilst burrowing, we ended up having to go back to aspen. How is your hoggie holding up?
oh no !! i'm so sorry that happened to you. i've had no problems with this substrate. it doesn't clump at all and i make sure to watch him eat to see if he gets any substrate in his mouth. i wonder if your substrate was too damp or if there were other environmental factors that could have caused that
If the lines are only in the video it could be the framerate of the video. I can't remember specifically what it is but there are apps that you can mess with what framerate your phone records at
Sometimes when I film, the shutter speed on my camera will not jive with the cycle rate of an LED light bulb giving the same effect. I’m just thrilled to see/listen to a new bio active b video. Wish it was a weekly thing in our household. She does things like classic RUclipsrs did before YT became influencer heavy.
@@dw.imaging aw thank you :D that's so so kind. i wish i could do it more too but i'm a full time college student and i work so it's hard to schedule it all in but i love making videos as much as i can !! i'll try to be more consistent :P
Nice video, keep up the great videos. Check out "Avoid horizontal banding / flicker in videos by Chung Dha" video on youtube. Since the video is already record it will have to be fixed in post process.
hahah nothings wrong with them. hognoses are just a little funny looking. they just have wonky eyes especially when they sleep haha plus he's albino so the red might make them look even funnier

When I hear up clean up crew I picture bugs with brooms and shovels 😂🤣😂🤣. The home is sooo adorable so is your noodle ❤️😊😘

Nice snake. Looks expensive 😊

How do u heat it
When I made this video there was an under-tank heat mat with a thermostat attached but now I use a halogen lamp with a dimming thermostat :)
why is her eyes soo big
