I have used shredded aspen for a long time. I love how it's light and fluffy, and holds tunnels. I love it. With that said, I decided to try a hemp bedding. It's supposed to be more absorbent and odor controlling. I get slightly more for the same cost. I like that the hemp is compostible. So far no one can tell me is aspen is, so when I finally get my composting worms, I'll have to see if they will consume it. The hemp is also supposedly digestible. Which is also why I love shredded aspen. The hemp definitely doesn't hold tunnels. I use the coco coir/play sand mixture for my moist hides. You can use mosquito dunks water to control the flying insects, and not hurt the snake. There is a worm composter on RUclips that uses the mosquito dunks water for that purpose, for years.
Great video! I like to use paper (as opposed to paper towels) for quarantine. It's not absorbent/fibrous like paper towels and much safer. For my non-quarantine hogs, we have been using shredded, sifted Aspen. But now we are planning on switching to Coco Coir, as we've learned hognoses need more humidity than originally thought. I'm very excited to see how they do with Coco Coir. Thank you for all the great info!
I use plain brown paper fiber crumbles small animal bedding like Carefresh, So Phresh, etc for my hoggie and love it. I only tong feed and haven’t had any issues with ingestion, it absorbs urates and feces immediately and there’s no smell whatsoever. Holds burrows well and doesn’t risk scratching his eyes. Makes cleaning a breeze. Been using it for years now with no ill effects.
I just spent $39.99 on the course chips which is expensive but it is so much cheaper then buying other reptile beddings. It’s saving me money even though it’s really marked up 😂.

The ending 😂😂😂
Thanks for the info 🤘🏻
Great topic with the best thumbnail. 👍
Glad you covered the splintery substrate that makes me cringe every time I see it stuck to a pinky mouse 😬.
I use a ice cream lid for feeding trays. They survive through the dishwasher. Peanut butter lids and Nutella lids also work
The rant at the end 😂😂😂

Great video! My go-to substrate is the coarse sani-chips.
I did not know that about paper towel. Great information
Do you have a brand of coco coir to suggest ? I want to switch over from aspen to a more natural mix.
❤
For the play sand is it any type? Like hardware store play sand?
First like! First comment 😅

Deckow Extensions
Coke is better than Pepsi 😅
Nice video 👌
Coarse sani chips is the only right answer.
Where do you buy them?
@@chersgear7202 I’m on the west coast so I have to get them from Amazon. If you’re on the east coast I think it’s cheaper.
Dammit I didn’t get the coarse Murphy chips I got regular hope it will be ok
You mentioned that the fine sandy chips works for keeping rodents on. Do you breed your own rodents? Could we see how?
