Something reassuring about Green Villainy being (in many players' opinions) the most powerful aspect combo is that even despite that, the Tier 1 decks aren't exclusively green as they were assumed they would be early in the first few weeks. Boba Yellow has actually won the most store showdowns so far in a recent graph I saw (and I've seen some players now say that OB isn't the best card in the game--Firespray is. Though I personally think OB still is). Sabine Yellow is now believed to be potentially stronger in the meta than Sabine Green, both of which are Tier 1. And the highest rated deck archetype for Vader isn't even currently Vader Green--it's actually Vader Blue! So that does bode well for meta health.
The competitive still touches Command Villain from time to time with things like Iden being the original control, Palp as a late game contender, and Boba's alternative to dual Cunning. The store showdown mentioned in the video was the weekend of the Vigilance Vader deck popping up. Control match ups are still the biggest sleeping pill Unlimited has to offer. Cunning Boba handles it nicely, Spark even out of aspect is a wildly strong card. In terms of Sabine's success, it's aggro, and if people like Control, rock beats scissors. Also that's the first time I've heard that take on Firespray. While it's just in my top 10, I can see why people would think that. It is strong enough to interest me in playing an Aggression Cad Bane for set 2.
@@TheAverageGatsby Part of that is that Green was perhaps the most "obviously good" color out the gate. Before the meta started diversifying in the past two months, the champ who won that first major tournament with Krennic Green went on a long spiel about the game on twitter (he was a TCG vet) about how he saw there being zero reason to not run green. But now, two months later, we see Red-Yellow, Red-Blue, Monoblue, Monoyellow, etc. winning big tournaments too. The spoilers for next set look great, but they actually so far seem to imply (at least, at first glance), that Monoyellow is going to get an even bigger buff, and it will be potentially disgusting lol. Re:Firespray, it'll probably not be nearly as good in Cad Bane since you lose that instant ready with Boba synergy. But crazy thing is, stuff like A New Adventure (and now Swoop Down, revealed today!) are going to make it an even more powerful card than it was already lol.
I've never had any interest in TCG's before SWU. The starter sets are incredible value and are enjoyable to play without booster packs. I only have the starter for the first set, but have pre-ordered the set 2 starter and a booster box. The star wars theme and resource system were the reason I got into the game, and I'm sure that is the reason for a lot of the more casual players.
I play a lot of TCGs, but the ease of playability and learning curve of the game is seriously impressive. The resource system would be the 2nd biggest reason. Very smart design to avoid having to print lands while also putting another choice for the player to consider.
The game itself is actually very good if only a little too simple for my taste but I came from SWCCG (the man’s game). As more cards are made and more mechanics are added I’m sure it’ll become more complicated over time.
Thank you for actually be real and opening addressing problematic cards that will only just get better as the game goes on. Villainy is the strongest aspect in the game. The only good Heroism deck is Sabine and its brain dead. Attack Base and nothing else. ECL, Superlaser Tech, Superlaser Blast, Vigilance, Overwhelming Barrage and K2SO are all cards that should be limited or banned. The doom feels doomed before it could bloom. Cards are way to expensive for Set 1 (the introduction) and new plays don't wanna play against $500 decks when they cant even find cards themselves.
Personally, I love SWU, great game. It definitely has the standard rock beats scissors mechanic that Magic the Gathering introduced, but there's plenty of variety that it's still fun as well as sideboarding to attempt to beat up that pesky rock with those paper-infused scissors. I agree though fuck SLB, it will be interesting to see if it's as powerful after set 3/4
@Atticus3lack Unfortunately, I been busy with life, so I have played very little set 2. I need to start writing the next video, and it's likely going to be from POV of people who have played more regularly to get a more informed take. Atm, for me, the game feels better to play with more identities taking shape. However, Sabine/Boba/Han effectively play the same game with a few new toys, and maybe there is something to talk about there. Set 3 spoilers have me put to sleep at the moment with less than a handful of interesting pieces. The tokens gameplay makes me curious which cards will skyrocket into being meta picks, or if the keyword will be ignored outside of Suns format.
I love Star Wars unlimited so much Even when i lose, i have a fantastic time. Seeing my opponents decks is always a blast, and that's why i go to weekly tournaments every Friday..... Except there's 1 person i play against Every week, there's 1 guy, always the same guy Is always playing either double green villiany or double blue villiany Or green blue villainy And every single deck they play is the bane of my existence, like a double blue deck of nothing but removal spells and vigilance making the unfun game of sitting and doing nothing last 10 years Or A double green deck where they just give a unit a million experience and keep overwhelming barrage to kill everything and hit the base with that unit Or even blue green and doing both at the same time while also using gideon hask to gain even more experience tokens with every overwhelming barrage Its gotten so bad that i literally do not want to play games against them anymore They're the only person in these weekly tournaments that many other players hate and has actively led to more and more people not attending the weeklys They just show up to win like 10$ of in store credit and make everyones day just a little worse along the way
I think hard control over most decks like this will be a thing of the past soon, whereas super aggro will just destroy these decks and make them much less likely to play these.
I love this game it’s incredibly designed , I even bought a case when it came out. BUT NO ONE CAN PLAY IT! how is a game that is a Disney owned franchise not using the same printer for magic? Or Pokemon? You know, that can actually keep up with printing demands? Shadows is already $900 a case for pre order! C mon ! No locals I. My area either, all been cancelled due to availability Looks like fantasy flight has their head up their (_|_) again.
Also coming from yugioh and also agree that OB is an absolutely broken card. Glad I found your video, I feel similar. I genuinely like the gameplay and theme just hope the game lasts and gains more diversity.
Yeah its not like FFG had EVER had this exact same problem with the exact same IP and could of estimated their sales and actually avoided this problem. No that would be pants on head dumb if they had that info and DIDNT learn a lesson. /sarcasm FFG went from a highly liked company by me, X-Wing 1.0 was FANTASTIC, to probably one of my least cared about gaming companies. They ride the success of 2 things 1) the Star Wars IP and 2) the launch of said Star Wars IP games. They dont ever support their stuff longer than 4 or 5 years and drop it. For any "Collectable" game thats absolutely atrocious time tables. For Board Games or one offs, or as mentioned LCGs thats fine. But Collectable games? Yeah FFG is the WORST at Collectible games. Hence why I wrote off Unlimited when it was announced. And now with one of my all time favorite CCGs getting a reboot from Kickstarter, Warlord Saga of the Storm, I have zero interest in any other CCGs for the forsseable future.
I know you said it in the video but you need more reps before making a video like this. Solid content my first time seeing your video, so I’m not trying to be rude, but your complaints aren’t warranted. Get some more reps in some showdowns, and leave yugioh behind. Would love to come back to your channel with better SWU content and I’ll subscribe.
Which complaints would you say aren't warranted? At the end of the day, I'm just hopeful that SWU Set 2 does something interesting. FFG is showing some interesting design space with Set 2. The Smuggle Keyword is pretty neat, and capturing units is an interesting concept paired together with the Bounty system. I probably won't leave Yu-gi-oh! behind since I still enjoy it, and retro formats are finally being taken with interest. Anyone actually playing that game though could tell you how bad in the "Year of Fire".
You aren’t incorrect in a lot of your claims. OB imo is the best card in the entire game for good reason. And yes because of this black/green is just so damn good. Most of the best cards in the game are green and many are black as well. Bc of that control is just beyond necessary in the meta bc of boba green. It’s the best deck hands down and smashes everything except for hard control. You’re also right in that the card pool is damn small so ppl just play boring decks like double blue iden bc it wins vs boba green. As the carpool grows it’ll be harder to find success with these VERY polarizing decks ie hard control. With the carpool growing the game will be much more about playing an effective deck with a well thought out sideboard to counter meta decks rather than just playing 0 unit boring blue villany.
Why is OB the best card for good reason though? A one sided board wipe that then pumps the unit for the phase is a card that Magic hasn’t even printed. I love when people say “it’s strong for good reason” to justify an incredibly overpowered card that is 0 fun to play against.
i agree.....you dont have enough reps. Yes the game is a bit of rock paper scissors between like 9 decks....with 1 set......my guy its set 1 and there is a metric ton of decks that are absolute viable. You also get to side board to help with your "rock beating your scissor" deck. Alot of this can be labeled as "get good". If you are getting rolled by control, either your deck sucks, you dont know how to pilot your deck very well, or you are playing a deck that is inferior to the control deck. gotta read the room my guy. If its THAT bad....switch decks? Travel to a different shop? If you dont have the money to do either of those (totally reasonable, times are wild) you cant really complain that what you are playing isnt winning. Because it is, you just arnt winning with it. So complaining that there are too many decks is kind of weird. secondary market....umm....stuff people want cost more money that stuff people dont??? I dont know what you are getting at here. You should look into how well the first set sold. LIke actual research. Its actually insane how many boxes were sold. There isnt a way they could have printed enough. So we can call it a short print and its still insanely popular. Lorcana did this and it almost killed their game. While still VERY popular, trust me when i tell you. more people are playing star wars right now than lorcana right now.
Well, thanks for watching a portion of my video. I'd suggest referring to the rest of the video where I state that I'm excited for set 2, and that it is unfortunate that despite the precautions taken, we are put on standby.
Star Wars Unlimited isn’t great. The action based system is better utilized in Warlord: Saga of the Storm. The upgrades are completely useless and removal is so good that if you upgrade a unit you’re just giving your opponent a 2 for 1. As I said, removal is just way too good way too soon. Alpha Clash corrects this with their use of an attachment cost that slows equipment down but allows you to keep it on the field if the clash card it’s equipped to leaves.
When I saw the set 2 reveal of Rival's Fall, a portion of my desire to play this game died. Leader removal for 6. I'm holding on cope for now, but Removal turbo decks are easily the most frustrating part of this game.
@@TheAverageGatsby If you can find a community for it I would recommend checking out some indie TCGs like Sorcery: Contested Realm. Inspired by old school MTG and has a tactical element. It only releases one set a year. Set 2 coming out later this year. Hard to find like Unlimited tho. Or Alpha Clash which has a lot of lore built into it and is inspired by Dragon Ball Super card game and MTG, and a little Yugioh. And Warlord is coming back after 20 years being gone later this year with a reboot. The indie scene is more innovative, and the cards look better too. Sorcery and Alpha Clash are all full art cards.
@IanM92 My official unofficial rule is to try and only play one tcg at a time because money. If I wasn't playing Yugioh or SWU, I'd be on Digimon. Other than that I just play a lot of Mahjong in my free time.
I do not have a Disney+ subscription! I bum off my parents' account.
My problem with Star Wars Unlimited is the lack of product so I can't get people into the game easily.
It’s gonna get worse. They is a Disney franchise, why can’t they afford to print
"Control beats my desire to live" is a T-shirt print I need.
