    My mom was flipping out this morning because "it doesnt feel like Christmas" and i asked her why it doesnt and her responce was "im not rushing to find gifts, no one is yelling at eachother, and there is no stress" and i just started laugh while she was having an anxiety attack about it

      Ironically I'm the exact opposite. I was super on top of getting my presents this year. My tree was up and decorated the first week of the month. I just need to get the family by until the end of the year.
      This is the best Christmas I've had in years. There's no extra stress. I can actually just relax and enjoy the season. I haven't felt like this since I was a teenager.

    The 1996 SNL Christmas Special is the show that cues me into the holiday spirit. The sketches: Schweddy Balls, the Hanukkah song, and Topless Martha Stewart.

    Really not a deep pull, but my quintissential Christmas movie is The Muppets Christmas Carol. I saw it as a kid yada yada yada. It's hilarious, so on and so forth. It does just put me in the Christmas mood. Plus I love that none of the humans acknowledge the muppets as muppets and I want more movies like that.

    They should make a sequel set in todays time with Arnold playing the same character and he’s spent 27 years trying to find his wife the perfect Christmas gift.

    Die Hard is a christmas movie. It's not just a movie set during christmas.
    I once saw someone compare Die Hard to Lethal Weapon (which also happens during christmas), but the events of the film wouldn't change if it were set around any other holiday.
    But in Die Hard, christmas is an important part of the plot. The only reason John Mcclain even goes to L.A. is to try to reconnect with his estranged wife and see his kids. The themes of family and togetherness are big in that movie (and are also found in other Christmas movies)
    On top of that even the villains plan is based around christmas. He knew there would be a holiday party happening that day so he would have a group of hostages in a confined area of the building. He also knew there was going to be next to no security in the building, again because it is christmas time.

    I get the Aardman Christmas association too! It helps that the shorts are almost always played around that time of year. Also really looking forward to having Doctor Who at Christmas again.

    The Booster kicking scene is one of two things I remember about this movie, the other being Arnie vs The Santa Mob, favourite Christmas movie is probably either Gremlins, or one of the old stop motion movies

    Die hard is absolutely a christmas movie. Yes, i watch it at Christmas. And how else would you describe the warm fewling of seeing Hans Gruber fall and knowing that, not only is the day saved, but the companu's christmas crisis is averted!

  • @adamcraig9059
    @adamcraig9059 9 месяцев назад +4

    I like to distinguish a Christmas movie as one that doesn't just take place at Christmas but needs Christmas as part of the plot. I love die hard, I'm 42 it's baked into me that it's one of the greatest films ever made. You could take Christmas out of it and it would still be as awesome. Where as the nightmare before Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street or Santa clause the movie don't work with out Christmas. Not all films with action in are Action movies... you dig?. Still Die Hard is an epic but I'll rewatch it any time of year

    • @nobodyfamousX
      @nobodyfamousX 9 месяцев назад

      But you can't take Christmas out of Die Hard. It is integral to the plot.
      Christmas is why John McClain is in L.A. to begin with. The fact that it is Christmas is important to Hans Gruber's plan. The plot wouldn't happen without Christmas.

    Karl's point about what makes a movie a Christmas movie brings up an interesting point. "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Story" are highly regarded as Christmas movies, but that really wasn't the case when they came out. Networks used to air them all the time at Christmas because they were "Christmassy" and the rights cost next to nothing because they were so shit. But because people grew up with those movies every Christmas, they've become linked with their nostalgia for the holiday. I guarantee you, if you watch "Christmas" movies like Iron Man 3, Lethal Weapon, and Die Hard with your kids every year around Christmas, THEY will consider them Christmas movies.

    Wiki Weekends With respect you got the fact about "Miracle on 34th Street" backward, it was the original not the remake that was released in the summertime because they weren't sure it would work, so they released it in the summertime because theaters made more money with kids being out of school so they figured they could at least break even that way.

    See, my problem with not listing Die Hard and Home Alone is that as far as I can remember, my parents ruled the remote at Christmas and every year 3 films would be a must - Die Hard, Home Alone, and Potop (the Deluge). So watching Die Hard does make me feel warm and fuzzy inside because in my brain it's tied to curling up on the sofa between my parents, with the smell of pine, the twinkling of lights, and plates of poppy-seed roulade and gingerbread cookies.

    Random bad movie that makes me feel Christmas-y is Look Who's Talking Now with the talking dogs. I don't remember if it was released around Christmas but it's set around Christmas time and it gives me the warm Christmas fuzzy feelings. But my favorite Christmas movie is Santa Clause is Coming to Town. I fricking love that movie. I watch it multiple times every Christmas season.
    I love Santa lore. I would looove a Violent Night sequel where we get Santa's backstory. That would make me estaticly happy.

    I will always feel bad about the way Prequel and sexual actors were treated by fans after their Star Wars movies, *but* the amount of people who hated the prequels and their actors are not the same ones who love them and their actors. Ahmed Best, and Haden Christianson *were* and are great actors. Hell, I grew up with their, sadly, limited carriers. Most people who say they like the actors, *actually* do. It’s not some big joke at their expense…

    Have the usual standard good ones... Muppets Carol, Elf, original Grinch, etc. Sometimes Home Alone. But the question is favorite bad ones, so... Christmas hasn't arrived in my house until we've seen Christmas With The Kranks, lol.
    If you like Jingle All The Way, give it a go. Similar madcap borderline cartoon energy, actors going all in on goofy roles (Jamie Lee Curtis is a hoot), even some of the social critique.
    It might be my wife's favorite Christmas movie. And my favorite to listen to her while watching, laughing to the point of tears every time, despite having seen it a zillion times. The kids, too.
    Yep, that dumb, bonkers, silly little movie = pure Christmas joy in my house. It's great, lol.

    I would appreciate Christmas more if it didn't start the DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING and last over a month. It's an assault on the senses for a month plus with all the commercials, music, everything. No holiday needs that much time.

    Unpopular opinion: I hate Elf. Watched it once, never again.
    Favorites are A Muppet Christmas Carol, The Grinch original animated and the Cumberbatch version, Home Alone, The Nightmare Before Christmas for kids movies.
    It Happened on 5th Ave, Christmas in Connecticut and The Bishop's Wife for old movies.
    Christmas vacation and 4 Christmases for adult movies.
    Also I love Christmas because of all the baked goods and decorations. I miss having lots of people to go gift shopping for. I don't care about receiving gifts, I want to give them.

    First off, Happy Holidays to the Fact Fiend crew. Second, when it came to the Star Wars fandom discussion, are you truly confident in saying that the tempers of Star Wars have cooled? From my perspective it's not so much that the fandom cooled down, it's more that the old fans were replaced by the new fans. It's been about 24 years since Phantom menace came out. If you were in the target demographic of say 6-11 years old when that film released you'd be pushing past 30 at this point in time. Those 30 year olds would be far more vocal about their support for the actors from the prequels now than the 50-ish year olds who grew up on the original trilogy and complained about Ahmed Best (Jar-Jar) and Jake Lloyd.
    Although, I can't really argue with your sentiment that Star Wars fans suck when they can't accept change and provide meaningful critiques. But, I have found that when they can accept change and actually critique Star Wars, they are some of the most wholesome people I've seen.
