.What are welding defects and remedies?

Remedies:
Preheat the metal as required.
Provide proper cooling of the weld area.
Use proper joint design.
Remove impurities.
Use appropriate metal.
Make sure to weld a sufficient sectional area.
Use proper welding speed and amperage current.
To prevent crater cracks make sure that the crater is properly filled.
How to Identify the 7 Most Dangerous Welding Defects
Types of Welding Defects.
Slag Inclusions.
Porosity.
Undercut.
Weld Crack.
Incomplete Fusion.
Incomplete Penetration.
Spatter.
Among the discontinuities related to the welding process, one can mention 10 types:
Lack Of Penetration or Incomplete Penetration.
Lack Of Fusion or Incomplete Fusion.
Undercut.
Spatter.
Slag Inclusions.
Cracks.
Porosity.
Overlap.
Welding defects such as slag and other entrapments, cracks, microfissures, porosities, inclusions, lack of penetration and fusion, etc., oxide and other scales, etc., deteriorate the corrosion properties of weld metal. These defects normally cause early pitting and crevice attacks in the weld metal [3, 4].
Linear inclusions occur when there is slag or flux in the weld. Slag forms from the use of a flux, which is why this type of defect usually occurs in welding processes that use flux, such as shielded metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, and submerged arc welding, but it can also occur in gas metal arc welding.
Types of Welding Processes
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) This style of welding is also referred to as Metal Inert Gas (MIG). ...
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) ...
Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) ...
Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
Three of the most common are Arc, MIG (Metal, Inert Gas) or GMAW (Gas, Metal Arc Welding), and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding
spot welding
projection welding
seam welding
upset welding
resistance brazing
flash welding
resistance heating

How can we reduce welding defects?
You'll need to remove the impurities in your metal and preheat it as required. Additionally, use the proper joint design for the material and properly cool the welded area. Be sure to weld enough sectional areas, too. Use the right amperage current and welding speed.

What is flux for welding?
Flux is a mixture of various minerals, chemicals, and alloying materials that primarily protect the molten weld metal from contamination by the oxygen and nitrogen and other contaminants in the atmosphere. The addition of certain chemicals and alloys also help to control arc stability and mechanical properties.
What causes porosity?
Porosity is caused by the absorption of nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen in the molten weld pool which is then released on solidification to become trapped in the weld metal. Nitrogen and oxygen absorption in the weld pool usually originates from poor gas shielding.
Repair welding is a commonly used technique in which the cracked material is removed by arc gouging and the element is welded to re-join the material on either side of the crack.
