  • Building the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Supermarine Spitfire plastic model kits from ‪@beacon_models‬ . These lovely 1:144 scale kits are a brand new release from a brand new company - see how they go together and paint up in this video. The two aircraft represented are early WW2 versions as seen over the skies of the England and the English Channel during the Battle of Britain.

    What an excellent build! You did so well with the kits and the diorama is so characterful and dynamic. This was a real pleasure to watch and thank you for your kind words.

    Got my kits and the thing I was worried about was the painting but the video shows it can be done and yours look great. As for the diorama, that looks spot on. Has a real atmosphere to it. 1/144 is great for those with limited space. You can get bigger kits for the same price as these but sometimes space is more valuable.

      Thank you Glen - I'm glad it was useful. You're absolutely right about space - my shelves are almost full!

    for masking the camo, i wouldve put some thick lines on the color diagram with a soft pencil then pressed the tamiya sheet onto it pretty hard transfering the lines across, then just cut them up and put em on like decal stickers

    Thanks, MN. Great job on both the kits and the diorama. A very evocative scene....the placement of the planes certainly give the impression of chase and the desperation of the chased to escape. All kudos to you for not only attempting such a small scale but sharing it on YT......it will inspire others to give it a go for sure.

    They are beautiful little kits. You've made a very nice job of the diorama. Franz Von Werra was held in a POW camp - and tried to steal an aircraft - in the general area where I grew up, I heard his story as a kid. It's a shame he was killed in a ditching at sea after all that.

    • @ModelNerd

      Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. Yes, great little kits - I hope Beacon are able to follow through with their plans for other aircraft.

    A great diorama and the kits produce nice models. I think you captured the sea very well. The only thing is the static prop blades. i have experimented with discs of thin clear plastic and airbrushing fuzzy prop blades onto the disc then finally putting a thin wash on the disc whilst rotating the disc. Rather like creating a windscreen wiper pattern effect.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  Год назад

      Thanks Allan. Yes, I was just thinking about the disc propeller effect yesterday as I will need it for a future project. I'll have to give that a go.

      I must agree with Allan. You have put a lot time and modelling skill into this dio. So please go the extra step and blurr those rounds of clear plastic. I am almost finished my REVELL Spitsfires and a Messa Schnitzel 109 (Deals Wheels) cartoon aircraft and flight is necessary..............cheers

    Well, you took a damn good whack at it didn't you? Are the cliffs around Dover? I was under the impression they were chalk white. Super feat being 1/144 scale. Nice work on the water also. This is just my preference but, I would have snipped the props off.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  Год назад

      Thanks Daniel. Yes, the cliffs are white but the weather in England is always so rubbish that they look grey :D

    What an excellent diorama, I really love those Beacon models too. You've certainly done them justice! I stumbled across your channel and I'm loving what I've watched so far :) I'm the opposite to you though, I find it much easier painting the smaller scales (1/144, 1/72) opposed to the bigger stuff. Anyway, if you get a chance check out one of my 1/144 builds and let me know what you think :D subscribed!

    Disappointed the kit doesn't have a pilot figure. Having to buy a pilot separately is a rip off. You did an awesome job on the dog fight scene.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  Год назад

      It's quite common (in larger scales, at least) not to include a pilot these days. Or, like some Airfix kits, to only include one for a two seater aircraft!

    • @PanzermansBunker
      @PanzermansBunker Год назад

      @@ModelNerd Most vintage kits I've seen provide a pilot figure. If progress of newer kits mean omitting that option, I'll stick with the old dog kits. Hey, keep up the great model building.

    Hi MN, I love this scale for dios. The terrain, water and angle of the planes really evoke a chase scene. I also like the separate rock out in the water. This is a very nice piece all around. I envision it on a desk in an executive's office. Quite an impressive look! Thanks buddy.
