I think a possible reason why the Union PA has more damage resistance than most other PA is because it's not made to be mass produced, allowing to be more heavily armored. Anything that's Mass Produced in the military has to have a balance of affordability and usability. Meaning that you aren't getting the best it could possibly be. With PA this would mean lower protection. This even explains T-65 being as superior as it is because it was only ever meant to be used by Secret Service agents, meaning it wasn't meant to be Mass produced and so they could put the very best tech and materials in it.
Another thing that isn't implemented despite the canonicity is movement. T-51 and X-02+ power armors are supposed to be extremely mobile in tandem with having power armor defenses, making them the best of both worlds. More heavily plated power armors that are more defensive in nature are supposed to also be clunkier and slower, and some power armors like the Union and Excavator models weren't made for combat so they pile on other features more suited for the intended work roles (Union is sturdy asf because it's supposed to be taking the brunt of steel foundry heat and heavy cargo 24/7, but it's way too slow for proper military use). The result is that there are military PAs which value a good balance of defense and mobility, and civilian PAs which are just big, slow, clunky work suits that normally never run or sprint in their lines of work.
U.S. Navy Vet… One of my favorite civilian misnomers that will forever be ingrained in culture is that the term “Military-Grade” means top-notch. It’s quite the opposite in reality. More often than not it equates to the cheapest possible material to do the job with the fastest production rate. 100% I have a hard time explaining that to other civilians. I've not served, but I've had my hands on a lot of kit. It all is kind of shit compared to what I can buy at a gun store.
My understanding, even after serving, is that military grade means as cheap as possible, as simple as possible, without falling apart immediately in the worst possible environments and situations.
@@twistedyogert Not that much against blunt attacks, as the impact and acceleration are still transfered to your skull. Same thing with medieval armour in real life.
The rebar is for explosive protection. I think the logic for ghouls not being able to wear regular armor is a combination of too heavy and sticking to the ghoul. Imagine taking off some tight leather pants when your skin has the consistency of a rotten peach and the logic of them being able to wear power armor is that it's self supporting and air conditioned.
I also like the idea that it prevents people from getting too close. Theres far more exposed areas on raider armor, likely because they found empty frames and welded their own gear to it without much or any measuring. the exposed areas could be exploited in melee, or by a sneaking enemy, or some psycho-bent waster. If you put some rebar around your vital bits: head and neck, it makes it hard to attack you. but the shoulder rebar absolutely seems like cage armor for HE.
@@dell988 Yeah, ghouls in power armor are weirdly underutilized. A spin off faction of Brotherhood ghouls would be pretty gangster, or like the ghoul remnants of the US military or something.

My theory of ghouls not being able to use leather armor in tactics is that on a hot day I stick to my leather couch, maybe if a ghoul wears leather their skin sticks to it and "comes off" in the leather.
@@iamthekingof1omillionsunsetsMaybe the dominatrix ghoul just never takes it off, the leather still stuck to the skin, just not ripping it off because it's still on.
I was thinking the same thing, and for metal armor the edges would catch on their already damaged and delicate skin. Basically, metal and leather armor would cause a ghoul more harm to wear than the damage it would negate!
I absolutely love how it has the cage over the helmet It seems like it's there to detonate explosives early or to make sure a super mutant's melee attack doesn't just break your neck
@lowrijmoulding2746 there's a common practice among tank crews, particularly Russian and Ukrainian ones to install slat armor (slang, cope cage) on their tank to protect from HEAT munitions. This armor bears a striking resemblance to top cage on raider powder armor. Thus the comparison

I was under the impression that raider power armour could come with random pieces of regular PA, much like it can come with whole pieces missing. If not: it should!
You sure about that? I've been finding lots of pieces but it takes some luck getting full set of matching pieces. Slag does have a T-45 torso piece however.
Tactics leaned on the idea that the bos were maybe not great people since the most moral and compassionate ones that made up the Midwest branch still acted like feudal lords so it kinda works there, also remember black isle was dying fast and needed money so they weren't doing top tier creative control as they tried to milk the franchise dry to save themselves
My favorite (aesthetically speaking) of these less common types has to be the union power armor. It really gives the feel of something heavy and durable meant for hard work in a place like an industrial steel foundry. Equip the person in the suit with an Autoaxe and you got a heavy duty steel worker and melee tank.
My theory on why Ghouls can wear power armor and not others; power armor is a suit with a sealed environment, like a space suit, so it can be worn more comfortably than other armor types
Or it has to do with being a large cavity you fit inside of. One that's large enough that you can wear other armor while inside the power armor. That means a ghoul can wear power armor without their skin sticking to the inside of the armor. If you've watched the walking dead. Think about the prison season where they came across zombies in riot armor. When they removed the helmet to stab the zombie's head, its whole face came along with the helmet. I think that's why ghouls can wear power armor, but not form fitting armor... and the same would apply to clothes as well. No yoga pants for ghouls.
I believe that the Hellcat Power armor might have been aquatic/amphibious pre-war, given it seems designed to be used under high pressure and its headlamp is only visible to the player and human npcs
I just realised when you showed the Hellcat Company logo, the Latin words on it translate to “Death From the Seas” That gives a lot more weight to theory of the armour being amphibious assault armour. As well as indicates that the Hellcat Company may be a marine company that survived the war and turned mercenary.
@@MediumRareOpinionsWell it’s 200 years in the future most non well established groups are going to make it that far. So most of the Remnants of potential groups probably died over sees, or integrated into normal waste land life.

You'd probably see as much US Power Armor in China as in the US.
If you have the punch through wall perk allowing the targeting of the core from any angle. However the power armor is marked as stolen. However you can't force the enemy out of their armor even if you destroy their core in 76.
The crown is likely just for the flashlight, and the rebar cage is most definitely for defending against head trauma (melee attacks) since a steel helmet like that is more than likely not suspended like a hard hat.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Midwest Brotherhood Armor was made in a research facility and can only be found in the Midwest and the brotherhood found it and made it their faction armor. Kind of how the Excavator Power Armor can only be found in West Virginia.
Maybe it’s a different variant of X-02/Black Devil that was abandoned by the Enclave in favor of the typical devil design. It would be neat for the models to be connected.
I love the Ultracite & Excavator Power Armor. They look so cool and their stories are pretty fun(the lore on the Excavator is my favorite). I have them both on display at my camp lol 😂
Headcanon for the Horned PA: I think the Midwest chapter of the BoS started out with T51 sets before making their own distinct power armor sets after welcoming a pack of intelligent deathclaws into their ranks and that new power armor took inspiration from those deathclaws. It should be noted that it is possible to make allies with a pack of intelligent deathclaws in Fallout Tactics and considering how inclusive the Midwest chapter is, it couldn't be that much of a stretch
worth of note that the hellcat power armor ALSO leaves a lot of the frame exposed, maybe even moreso than the raider armor (main locations are around the neck when viewed from the top, and around the belly area though its less visible here with the default colors as the hellcat matches the color of the frame's belly)
I always enjoyed the different designs of power armor, for all of my grievances with Fallout 4, I felt like Power Armor was the best part, being able to mix and patch parts, my usual go with the XO1 body, T51B arms, T60 legs and the T51B helmet, and Fallout 76 made it even better
It honestly would be cool to see Ultracite reactors get used properly in 76, Like I could see them fitting perfectly into a new MODUS/Enclave power armor myself. but than they would have to actually do that Enclave DLC they been teasing us on since wastelanders.
Hellcat Power Armor is my favorite design I just wish the chest piece looked more similar to the X-01 Chest because it’s chest piece just looks like it was broken at one point and never repaired.
Tbh, the Hellcat armor was (at first) the main reason why I completed the broken steel missions, it's sick af. I wanted it since I first saw it, and I just so happened to hit level 100 when I got it, so that's something
I dont think the intro news is talking about the hellcat company because he calls them "Our mechanized hellcats" prolly just a nickname for the forces, if he said "give em hell boys" I wouldnt assume that the "hell boys" were a faction that existed. Also the mechanized hellcats he mentioned are off fighting the Chinese over on the other side of the ocean, bit of a swim to get from there to west virginia.
Yeah, but when you look at the Hellcat suit, it seems to have a full respirator and scuba stuff built in. And we've seen boats that function post-war, like in Far Harbor and Point Lookout, so its totally possible that they took a boat back stateside, and then got setup. But even if they didn't, since Power Armor is built to be airtight and capable of recycling an air supply, they could've taken the time and literally WALKED along the bottom of the ocean to get back. (Granted, this is the least likely of any options) Also, there actually was a unit named similar to that, the Harlem Hellfighters (aka. The 369th Infantry Regiment of the US army) were/are a unit in WWI and WWII that still exists today. Its totally possible that the Hellcat Company may have had a similar name, but over time their name evolved by people saying it differently or something and the new name stuck.
@@wayneigoe6722You have to remember that 76 is 26 years after the great war, that's not alot of time to WALK all the way back, not counting how fucking silly that is, people still need to eat and recycled air doesnt last forever. Honestly, raider power armors the best armor in this fallout 4. It just looks so dope, it’s so fun to play with. It fits the aesthetic so well. It looks like you could fix it by just ripping off a stop sign from any corner of the world.
Maybe the reason that ghouls find leather and metal to heavy but the power armour has hydrolic systems that supports the user to move around and that takes a lot of the weight away for them
I like to think of the Hellcats as America's equivalent of the German stormtroopers of WW1, and that's probably where Bethesda got the inspiration. Think about it. German stormtroopers were a specialized group of elite soldiers that utilized submachine guns, shortened rifles, and Modern-at-the-time Body Armor to storm trenches and assault positions. So America having a unit that's specialized for that same reason, with power armor that's designed specifically to resist ballistic weaponry, makes a lot of sense. Add to the fact that they survived the end of the world and even thrived is a testament to how trained they were. Just like the stormtroopers of old.
Excavator Power Armor is probably my favorite power armor in the series because it makes 100% sense that a tool meant for war getting repurposed for something practical back at home and I just love the industrial look.
Excavator Power armor is probably my Favorite PA in Fallout 76, the carry bonus and it's unique look makes it amazing for me and it looks really good with most cosmetic skins. I just wanted to add that all power armors in Fallout 76 have a hidden stat of 42% damage reduction for a full set, regardless of which one you are using. Fallout 76 also has a legendary effect called overeaters which increases overall DR to 6% per piece the higher your hunger meter is , giving you +30% DR for a full set of Overeaters, which stacks with the DR already given by PA so a full set of Overeaters Power armor will give you 72% overall Damage resistence and that is not counting the resistances you get from the visible stats. In conclusion the extra carry weight, mining bonuses and the legendary effects make Overeater Excavator Power armor one of the best PA's in 76 and most sought after. Great video btw.
Yo I come back to these videos often because you do them properly. You deserve a lot of flowers and credit for your efforts compiling the lore in a accurate way.
Thank you for doing what you do. You have taught me more about Fallout than anyone else. Really helps build my fondness of this series/world/universe into something greater.
In Fallout 4, you CAN obtain power armor frames from enemies. You have to shoot and destroy the fusion core in the back of the armor. If they aren't killed by the resulting explosion, the enemy will eventually exit the power armor, allowing the player to enter it. Given that you have an extra fusion core. Edit: i jumped the gun with my comment. Lol
For the abandoned Power Armour frames, its simply because they're too heavy. Try the carry move on a PA corpse, it won't lift. The BOS have learned you can scuttle the armour (where you found them in that pit) - which I believe fries the circuits.
Raider power armor is such a cool idea, so many possibilities, like, imagine if the forged or rust devils power armor, imagine all the different varieties there could have been
my theory as to why ghouls cant wear leather or metal but can wear power armor comes down to temperature. If its hot enough and you sit on say a leather car seat without a shirt on, you may stick to it a bit, metal is a conductor which carries heat really well. And given that a ghouls skin is already necrotic and falling apart, having either of those two materials heat up and burn , or stick to them and may subsequently injure them if they try to take it off. Power armor on the other hand may be temperature controlled on the inside.
I'm guessing the rebar cage on raider power armour is there to protect the wearer from neck injuries, since if someone in full power armour fell onto their head, the damage to their neck from the weight of the armour could easily be fatal. Especially on a suit with a jetpack.
Agreed, blunt head impacts would be rough in armor with this much weight, and considering that the strategy for killing knights in full plate eventually became "just crack their skull" and a lot of raiders choosing or resorting to melee combat means head injuries, or managing to pull off the helmet, would be the easiest way to take raider armor down if you dont have the conventional firepower to break through their plates.
I think the rebar on the raider power armor is actually meant to hold the helmet together or act as a sort of frame for the helmet to keep it from falling apart and the sticking out bits of rebar is just bits of rebar raiders just didn’t remove as there is no point in doing so
Well talking about how you would operate the power armor frame (at least the hands), the "Better Marine" cinematic from Starcraft 2 is a nice way of showing it
I’m pretty sure that the “computer” on the outside of the helmet is meant to be the radio since all other power armors come with a built in radio Im guess whatever raider put it together decided to put a radio on the helmet
@@qwopiretyu probably why actually. Never liked easy when it comes to games, i literally never glitch or use exploits in any games so that seems legit.
Ghouls probably can’t wear a lot of different things because of their skin falling off. But power armor frames don’t seem to touch the body in all places so that would be my guess on why they can wear it
Ingram does have legs when she goes out of her frame. when you enter the frame it becomes a normal frame. I discovered this due to a bug with the settlement in the airport
One potential reason for ghouls not being able to wear leather or metal armor might be the deterioration of their skins. Those armors might come in contact with their mussel or tissues directly, causing extreme pain (because of coarseness of the leather) and/or even lethal infection (rusty metal, you don't want that in direct contact to an open wound IRL). You can even see ghoul armors have cloth lining in Tactics. However, in lore (though not in game prior to FO4) power armor seems to be closer to the exoskeleton, which supports itself and can get away with no skin contact at all, and would therefore be safe for ghouls. Environmental Suit would have polymer lining as the inner most layer, if FO has similar hazard suit technology similar to real life, and it would also be safe for ghouls.
I have every single power armor type in Fallout 76, with a pretty big library of paints and skins. But the armor I like to rock the most is my Bolstering Raider set. I do really wish they would add some paints to the Raider set.
I love the raider PA they remember me the improvised spaced armor made by Soviets in their tanks in Berlin to avoid Hollow charges of panzerfausts or bazookas in general and also the Syrian T 72 and T 55 tanks more recently wich look from a mad max setting or actually straight from fallout.
Or the modifications on current Russian tanks in Ukraine. The rebar cages definitely give a “cope cage” kind of vibe, and if you cover them…you have the turtle tanks.
you know....i never went into deep thought about ultracite and T-65, just that T-65 was a heavily modified T-60 and the ultracite looked more like T-51 because that's what the Appalachian chapter of the brotherhood used....no seriously, do you see any brotherhood corpses sporting any other sort of PA? because i haven't, in 76 atleast
The Hellcat Armor has little helmet for those of us who happen to share our body with a conjoined twin named Kuato. How very woke of the designer and manufacturer.
Video highlights how live Service just destroys any effort into lore or anything that make sense, all just there to earn money "ah give them a power armour who gives AF where it comes from"
the rebar being a countermeasure to Melee makes some sense, as the most common enemies a Raider might come across would be wild creatures or Feral Ghouls, nothing hurts more than trying to punch a piece of metal that stabs back at you... Sadly this is not a functional feature of the vanilla game.
16:40 I always chocked it up to "chafing" to be much more than a comfort issue when you have exposed internal flesh instead of skin. Also if i remember right npc ghouls were physically weaker in tactics so that also probably had something to do with it
The rebar spikes on the helmet is probably for if a creature like a death claw for example, biting the head. The rebar would tear up the death claws mouth and make it let go.

Love the Excavator PA. Yeah it's comparatively weak, but in a game where Carryweight is such a huge limiting factor, I am more than willing to sacrifice some protection for the 100 pounds extra (plus additional 50 pounds per leg with the right upgrade). The mining bonus from the arm pieces is also really neat, especially when you're in late-game and using Ultracite ammo. You're right about the standard paint though, that one looks pretty ass. I'm glad I got far enough in the previous season to unlock the "Lucky 7" casino paint for it, since that blend of blue, gold and red makes every PA look better
On the subject of power armor frames: Looking at a different franchise (starcraft 2) we see that the hands in Marine Power armor there are handles similarly to the PA frame. The hand at full extension stops before the mechanised digits begin, however the opening cinematic shows a control device that the user's hand is gripping onto that would ostensibly translate input from flesh digit to mechanical ones. It's possible that the PA frame is using a similar type of device in theory but is not rendered in engine because Bethesda considered it to be too much work for such a minor detail. It would however track with what appears to be a pressure mat that the users feet rest on to move the legs, that or the whole thing works on nuclear magic/the DRIFT system
Every time I found a piece of lore in fallout 76, the words in my head were "They thought THIS should be canon?" Every time I found another retcon on the BOS, I rubbed my temples until they were sore. 😂😭
Maybe the reason post-war power armor is so good is because pre-war, they were focusing on not only resistances but also comfort. While post war, resistances are all that matter
In Fallout 4, you can find power armour workstations in a lot of different places that are not of military significance. Red Rocket stations, factories, private residence garages etc. This suggests to me that there were civilian types of power armour in use pre-war. They were likely used for heavy lifting and/or work in hazardous environments... a lot like the Excavator model in FO76. I am not aware of any Fallout 4 concept art of civilian power armour types, but it would not surprise me to learn that there were plans for such things.

There's a ghoul in FNV with power armor.
@@dell988 Yeah, ghouls in power armor are weirdly underutilized. A spin off faction of Brotherhood ghouls would be pretty gangster, or like the ghoul remnants of the US military or something.
@@mooseitself Yeah, feels weird that the factions that are supposed to be survivors of the nuclear holocaust don't have a prominent presence of the ghouls, who are literally in some cases people who survived the bombs all these years.

That's honestly that and modding are the only things I like about FO4 PA...

With how common random bits of power armour are including whole complete frames you would think raiders wouldn’t need to make they own bits of armour

You sure about that? I've been finding lots of pieces but it takes some luck getting full set of matching pieces. Slag does have a T-45 torso piece however.
Instead of Raider Power armor, all armors should come with a salvaged versions, so you can have tons of variety in your scrapower armor

I actually think the Tactics Brotherhood Armor looks badass, but definitely looks like the kinda thing the bad guys should be wearing.
Oh 100% looks like what the villians would wear

I dunno why, but parts of it remind me of the Helldivers helmet

Wouldn’t be surprised if Midwest Brotherhood Armor was made in a research facility and can only be found in the Midwest and the brotherhood found it and made it their faction armor. Kind of how the Excavator Power Armor can only be found in West Virginia.

Hellcat Power Armor is my favorite design I just wish the chest piece looked more similar to the X-01 Chest because it’s chest piece just looks like it was broken at one point and never repaired.
Exactly it's so sick. It just needs more armor around the chest. Too exposed in the abdomen and between leg plates.

(Granted, this is the least likely of any options)
Also, there actually was a unit named similar to that, the Harlem Hellfighters (aka.
There is another way to get a empty power armor frame, Arturo in Fallout 4 has them in his shop.
Same with kleo
I remember seeing a couple different vendors in Fo4 who sell empty frames. Brotherhood and weapons merchants usually.
Lol
I was gonna say🤣
I completely agree about the advanced "horned" power armor. As soon as you showed that concept art image my first thought was it looked like Predator.
The fact that we haven’t gotten a fire breather skin for the union power armor is a crime
Trans women are men
I think the rebar on the raider power armor is actually meant to hold the helmet together or act as a sort of frame for the helmet to keep it from falling apart and the sticking out bits of rebar is just bits of rebar raiders just didn’t remove as there is no point in doing so
Well talking about how you would operate the power armor frame (at least the hands), the "Better Marine" cinematic from Starcraft 2 is a nice way of showing it
I’m pretty sure that the “computer” on the outside of the helmet is meant to be the radio since all other power armors come with a built in radio Im guess whatever raider put it together decided to put a radio on the helmet

@DracotheDarkPrince yeah it's likely an artifact of how Armor works in games (i.e. doesn't really interact with the character model physically)
Fun fsct: ingram does have normal human model but hss a unique outfit that makes her legs while in power armor invisable

On the subject of power armor frames:
Looking at a different franchise (starcraft 2) we see that the hands in Marine Power armor there are handles similarly to the PA frame.
I like the power armor change that Fallout 4 did how it made Power Armor like a mech suit instead of a suit of Night Armor
