Brian DePalma wrote a great paragraph about this movie in a 1980s issue of Film Comment. He called it the best film noir of the 1960s, calling Lee Marvin the Terminator before we had The Terminator.
When people say they don’t make films like this anymore… they don’t mean in a Downtown Abbey way. The violence and pace and lack of endless scenes you don’t need make this a great film. And John Boreman is still with us!
THE HUNTER (1962 novel), POINT BLANK (1967), PAYBACK (1999) Then there is other 'Parker' novel adaptations: THE SPLIT (1968), THE OUTFIT (1973), and PARKER (2013). All based on the original books by "Richard Stark" [AKA Donald E. Westlake].
there's also the French movie Mise à Sac (based on The Score) and Slayground (from book of same name) - Richard Stark's Parker novels are the best in crime noir!
I suspect Frank Miller took cues from this legendary Thriller to make his cult film noir - Sin City. As a kid I remember seeing clips of Point Blank in the early 70s on TV, thinking it was some easy going Mission Impossible thriller. WRONG! When I eventually saw the movie in the late 70s I was totally blown away by the wild violence, the ultra cool plot, the stylistic direction. The whole look, sound and style of the movie was decades ahead of its time, it was fantastic. The Walker role Lee Marvin played was easily the first and most violent action hero thriller I’d seen until Stallones Rambo franchise kicked off in the 1980s. Lee Marvin just had that crazy dangerous MF way about him 😂 he brought more unpredictable excitement than any other actor of that era. A genuine Hell raiser. Not even Clint Eastwood in his famous revenge movies could match Lee Marvin for menace, and brutally efficient payback.
@@nialwestwood 'Letters from Iwo Jima' - both Lee and McQueen would have done great in it if they had been available. People like Clint (and the mentioned ones) took care of Hollywood's past, but ... what about the future?

classic crime thriller which never gets old! funny trailer coz the main character named "walker" walks stoical on the walkway... almost forgot to mention the important fact: Angie Dickinson looks so damn hot again, like in all of her movies ! WOW!

If qualifying as an armchair ballistic expert and movie post-production guru is more important to you than just enjoying the bloody movie then you probably need to watch something else that won’t trigger your OCD.

One of the greatest trailers ever!
Love this movie. Always knew they would have the hallway scene in the trailer.
Damn! No wonder Lee Marvin is pissed. Look how far he had to walk to find men’s room.
Tough to beat Lee Marvin. Great actor great story.
My favorite of all time.
One of my all time favourite movies.

lee was so cool.
You are so right. Lee Marvin was the cool man of cool. Hollywood today don't make like that anymore. That's too bad.

Excellent 60s gangster movie... I love most of the stuff from that time...
Lee MARVIN is RELENTLESS !!!!in This EPIC FLIK BRILLIANT AND RUTHLESS g
Looks good!! Love Lee Marvin & Angie Dickinson!!
Amazing Film! Love Lee Marvin forever! dx
I first saw this movie over 30 years ago and I still think that Walker is like an avenging angel on speed - unstoppable, relentless, implacable.
legendary classic
Easy to see why this inspired a young Walter Hill. Tough lead actor, stark locations, quick gun sequences, use of slow motion, etc.
One of the best movie 'Trailer ever made!
Thank you, John Boorman.
Lee Marvin & Steve McQueen were the catalysts for Bruce Wills and co- total legends
Don’t forget to throw Eastwood in there with McQueen and Lee Marvin

The first movie filmed on Alcatraz Island after it's Closure in 1963.

The black guy singing looks like Jamie Foxx! 😆
True fact - This was remade into the action / dark comedy flick Payback with Mel Gibson, Maria Bello, Kris Kristofferson and the late James Coburn

I just watched the remake of this, Payday. Now I want to read the Parker series, any fans out there?
Auch ein ganz starker Film!
Who does this voiceover for the trailer?
Imagine if Walker meets John Wick. They can be great friends, considering both fight for revenge.
My dumbass never realized Payback was a reboot of this. Where the hell have I been?

$93,000 is like $5,000,000 in today's money.
Not so much, but that actually might help the movie. The futility of the "I just want my money" becomes a lot more obvious.

Was looking for the Netflix trailer of the same name, and wound up here. I think I'll prefer the Anthony Mackie version.
