I only just got the Eightball collection last night. My first intro to Clowes. I don’t think I’ve laughed this hard since I read Mad as a kid. Just getting into comics again after almost 30 years.

Get ahold of ice haven asap!!! I can't put it into words as I don't wanna spoil the book but holy shit, its so short yet powerful. It's a very ambitious story that goes beyond anything he had done before and begs multiple readings, every time a new thing clicks, there's so much subtext on that book. Like the guys said, its so cool watching him evolve from book to book, all of his Eightball efforts peaked in that Ice haven / The Death ray , One-Two-punch. So good. My best recommendation, if you are getting those two books, go in completely blind, they are really a treat full of twists.

Ice Haven it's basically that Simpsons Episode with the 22 short stories. It's good.

If you guys start making tier lists, you'll break the internet. Always love a ranking discussion of a creator's work because it really forces you to compare them in interesting ways and evaluate their evolving style and abilities.

Tier lists, with their background and knowledge, would be so much fun!

I have a full run of Eightball and still double dipped on the various hardcovers and trades. There was a paperback reprint for Icehaven as well. Preordered Monica. Can’t wait

Hard to choose. Grab that Complete Eightball to get a bunch in one collection.

You mean their video on it? Cuz the graphic novel finally came out a few years ago.

@@winternitz_ - It's not finished. The graphic novel consisted of the last few Acme Novelty Library issues. There is supposed to be a part 2 finishing it.

Ice Harvest, Wilson, Velvet Glove, Pussey and Death Ray are my favorites in order

The Death Ray is a go to favorite. David Boring right along side with it. I like Mister Wonderful a great deal too. But absolutely, my favorite Clowes work will always be his latest.

I used to work with an older lady that looked like she was drawn by Clowes. I always regretted never getting a picture of her.
She had those dead eyes with the prominent lower lid, the thinning short hair on top, smoker teeth and skin, and ugly clunky glasses. She ended up getting fired for hitting another employee which seems like the perfect progression for a Clowes character

I just finished reading "Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron" and nothing else from the same artist look as appealing to me. I didn't find it as incoherent as people say. I could follow it pretty well. I don't really like Lynch movies/shows. *They* are incoherent. But yeah, his other stuff seems unappealing to me.

For me his first work would be at he bottom and as more as time progresses his works are better and better. I don't like the things he did before David Boring as much
