This is one of those songs that got every single thing right and tapped into that mysterious _'magic formula'_ that creates a masterpiece. This song is just on another level
It’s the drums, the air between the lyrics - and just the way the dude’s voice sounds. The chorus works so well cuz yeah, it’s simple, but his inflections were made for the notes and shit. I don’t know enough about producing and music theory to really explain it, but it just works. Timeless.
Massive hit back in 1996! I remember there was a tv show in the UK called TFI Friday back in 1999 if i remember correctly, which covered him.leaving prison and being chauffered to the TV studio where he performed this song live.
My issue is that i don't think nowadays mainstream music isn't actually either good Hip-Hop and/or good Pop. During the 90's you would have Punk, Rock, Metal, Pop, Dance, Hip-Hop, Rap, Techno, Drum n Bass and even Trip-Hop all hitting some kind of mainstream recognition and eventually some turning into classics. Nowadays i just feel that most mainstream music turned into a bland amalgomation of almost non-expression.
I had a job that required a lot of driving. There were two albums I played all the time in the car (on cassette). They couldn’t have been more different but I loved them both. One was Radiohead’s OK Computer, the other was this album. It was more than just this one song. He had a bunch of hits off it. He couldn’t follow it up with his next album though as it only had one hit (in the UK). But this is still a good sounding song today.
I've been listening to this classic song for several years now and never get tired of listening to it.Music is a universal language. On my first deployment to Iraq back in 2005 with the Texas Guard ( I did a total of 4 deployments ) we'd do runs of health and welfare checks to the nearest towns/cities ( health and welfare checks is where our medics would do health checks on the elderly and kids ) and we'd give the Iraqees blankets,MREs,soccer balls,medicine,etc,etc,..we had speakers on a couple of our humvees and would blast songs from those speakers. One day we blasted-Ice-Ice Baby from our speakers while handing out our usual items. You could see heads bobbing, toes tapping from the Iraqees and the kids started bouncing around and laughing. It was a surreal moment in time-like I said music is a universal language no matter where you are. God bless.
This is a FABULOUS track! Absolute fire!!!! Will be glad when you guys check out Nico and Vinz performing "Am I Wrong" at the 20th Annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert! Perhaps you've forgotten???!!!
This song crosses all tastes. Mark has a totally unique voice. It's a damned shame he couldn't get his head in check. Dude was in and out of jail for beating up women, far as I recall.
Pretty sure he was convicted once in the beginning of his career because he tried to bring a firearm on a plane and later was arrested for not appearing to court like a year later. He was also part of a brawl which led to a fatility for which he was sentenced to community service then was incarcerated for paying a look-alike to perform his community service for him. I think he was also arrested for car theft and kidnapping and then again arrested for not appearing in court. Pretty sure there were some other minor offenses he did but i believe his latest arrest was in 2009 for an assault. Save to say, it doesn't seem like he learned much from his mistakes.
One hit wonder, kinda sad he never had anything else pop off like this, but just shows he had a mission with this song. His other stuff isn't bad either, not many that sound like they would have been hits, but I do have 2 others that are very good.
This was his only hit in the US, but in the UK he had several hit songs. One of them is “Horny” from the same album, was #5 in the UK and I think it’s a really good song too. More recently, within the last year he was in an ad for Frito-Lay that was pretty funny.
He had 2 more hits moan and groan, tripping and a song with DMX the jail song. He went to jail a couple times. Je was a bad boi..1 morn song named Horny

Never gets old.
On of the few 90s songs I could listen to a million times.

This was coming up on the end of R&B, Funk and Soul. Now it's all hip hop and pop music.

Variety is the spice of life..... 😉
Love this song, brings me back to 1997
Great song! Better than 90% of what is nowadays mainstream RnB (and even Hip-Hop/Rap)

The first time I ever heard this song was on that show New York Undercover with Malik Yoba

Mark Morrison is a German born British singer. This song got to no 2 in the Billboard charts 🎶❤

This will always be in my top 5 fav songs of all time. It’s so gd good
Great groove before work today, thanks guys. Old lady moving this mornin'.
every time i see this music video, i get the urge to buy some FILA
True true
I remember back in the day he was on tour w several other R&B singers. He kept no-showing them, so they kicked him off the tour LOL.
Brings back so many memories.

Love the Millie Jackson album cover 😅. My grandma loved that album 😅😅😅

This song will forever remind me of the summer after I turned 19.....🤣
Ha, ha, even Fenom2020 is swinging in the house
One hit better than the trash out today.
This was my jam… and you know it’s good when it’s been YEARS since you’ve heard it but it still hits like the first time! 🔥🔥
Hey, did you know that "Return Of The Mack" sampled "Genius Of Love" by The Tom Tom Club?!?
I love this video!

This song is cold af holyyyyyy. And the video is too clean. He kiltttt this shit 😂😂😂😊
No this wasn't his only hit. He also had Moan and Groan which was a banging slow jam. His whole cd was BAD!!!❤
Love this song ❤
Brilliant track. As someone else has said, it never gets old.

This has never been my type of music. But I went out and bought this 😂

This was THE jam in '96. In '93 it was Keith Sweat's Twisted. The same year as MM, Maxwell upped the ante with "Ascension."
Funny you should mention clones as he sent a lookalike to do his community service 😂
Banger 🤘🤘
This is a FABULOUS track! Absolute fire!!!! Will be glad when you guys check out Nico and Vinz performing "Am I Wrong" at the 20th Annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert! Perhaps you've forgotten???!!!
"Baby when you brrroke my heart"
Corey is right - three of him in his office lol
Did everyone hear the hook in their head when they walked into work/school in 1996? Just me?

Club smash for sure
Definitely a club song for the masses
The US started to shut off the airtime for British artists in the 90's. That's why you only heard this song of his - it was too big to ignore.
One hit wonder, kinda sad he never had anything else pop off like this, but just shows he had a mission with this song.
His other stuff isn't bad either, not many that sound like they would have been hits, but I do have 2 others that are very good.
Did C-lo redo this song and make his own version of it? Just wondering cause I thought that I saw him sing it one time on TV
This was his only hit in the US, but in the UK he had several hit songs. One of them is “Horny” from the same album, was #5 in the UK and I think it’s a really good song too. More recently, within the last year he was in an ad for Frito-Lay that was pretty funny.
Was that the same song as Moan and Groan?
Check out Automatic by Sirreal. He’s a hip hop artist from Canada
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Damn this a great song lol
Greatest song ever made?
5:01-5:02 - that woman is gorgeous
Check out his FritoLays commercial. Return of the snack
I think Corey was on Check Please.
He had a lot of run ins with law which basically destroyed his career as it was taking off
He had 2 more hits moan and groan, tripping and a song with DMX the jail song. He went to jail a couple times. Je was a bad boi..1 morn song named Horny
Mark is saying "return of the MAN". The girl wanted a man
Crazy, Moan and Groan those were also hits, but not as big as Return of the Mack.
This songs for my cheating pos ex wife , btw I married her best friend 😉😉😉
It’s a phat song that he ripped musically from Chucky Booker’s GAMES. LISTEN TO THAT SONG, Chucky did it better.
Games is a super smash!!!
Great song from 1996!
