I've been watching this video regularly because of Allan, just standing there nodding, admiring Gambale and hugging people, What a loss. RIP Beautiful man!
I guess that's part of what makes Frank the guitarists guitarist. He performs flawlessly while Allan Holdsworth watches approvingly. I could feel a personal sadness in my heart when Allan passed.
@@vanguard4065 he can play more melodically than Allan? have you heard of all of allan's work? not only his solo albums, even with other artists? Lol think first before you throw a comment...
Very cool performance by Mr Gambale and thanks for capturing it from the angle where we could see another giant player Mr Allan Holdsworth standing and enjoying his playing. What a wonderful moment it must have been.
I come back to this video at LEAST once a week. People talk about REACTION videos = OMG Allan reacting to Gambale around 3:40 = THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY !!!!
Love how Allan is digging it. Never watched Allan listen to music before. He was even getting a kick out of the comping during a part of the synth solo.
+Pete Woods In '81 Holdsworth was playing a basement club in London - somehow we scored a front-row table, and after the show we just went up to the stage and introduced ourselves - a bunch of stupid kids from university. Anyway -- he gave me the nickel tour of his rig and actually let me try it out - talked shop for probably half an hour afterwards. Absolutely amazing night. BTW Gambale's playing here is sick. I'm becoming more of a fan than ever.
From my own hometown too and yet few would have heard of him. The local press and TV had not heard of him either, nor that he had died in 2017! I wrote to them to ask them to do a tribute.............got a reply but no tribute for Allan. My hometown does not deserve to have, one of the greatest musicians to ever walk the earth. Maybe we will get a statue for him someday....
God how I miss Allan...these two guy are the most humble giants I ever had the pleasure to know on a semi personal basis....Larry Coryell also..I sure miss him too! RIP guys
Thank god I saw Gambale on a guitar scale instruction video on youtube. I had no idea how great player he was but since the first time I watched him , I liked his playing so much , I began to want to watch him more. Later I realised that he was the one of the most important guitarists. Allan Holdsworth 's reactions were priceless here :) they are like old wolves of guitar hehe.
Not Frank's best performance, but how long can a legend stay on top. Frank has proven year after year, decade after decade his brillilance, and I am proud to have witnessed a lot of it. In 1990 at Van Duzer theater at Humboldt State University, Frank played with the Chick Corea, John Pattituci, Dave Weckl and Eric Marienthal..........Frank owned it that fine day and I was completely flabbergasted.........his speed, sound and technique were like none other. That was my first time seeing Frank live.
Faye Kao I disagree with you, especially when he starts playing the fast stuff in the middle. Every note is spot on. The only noticeable thing is that his guitar starts going out of tune toward the end.
It's fascinating watching one virtuoso musician's reaction to another's playing. Allan Holdsworth as a face in a crowd doing what we all do when witnessing an amazing performance of guitar mastery. RIP Allan.
Allan was humble...real...sincere...his greatness was first in his soul. He is the greatest musician at NAMM and he is supporting his friend...that says it all and a lesson for all!
It's still so hard to believe that Allan Holdsworth is no longer with us. Every time I hear his music, it's like he's still here, speaking directly to the soul. His guitar wasn't just an instrument; it was a voice, a way for him to express depths and heights that words couldn't reach. He is the Guitar God, not just for his unparalleled skill but for the emotional landscapes he painted with every note and composition. His music was a tapestry of emotion, woven with the threads of genius and humility. For me, he'll always be the Mt. Everest of not only guitar mastery but of heartfelt musical expression. The way he connected life, emotion, and music changed me forever. His absence leaves a silence that's loud with memory and respect. In every chord, in every uniquely crafted composition, Allan’s spirit and passion live on, touching our hearts and guiding us through the complex melodies of life...
On a Holdsworth note , I was walking down a Montreal st yesterday an heard Devil take the hindmost playing from the sound system in a somewhat trendy yet posh restaurant. Turns out several of the bar staff are huge Holdsworth fans . Legacy !
I would've loved to hear Allan's reaction to the guitar sensation Matteo Mancuso, who plays fusion and every other music genre under the sun flawlessly, including "Fred", which Allan recorded under Tony Williams' leadership in the 70's.
Man!! this guy is ridiculously good, could he be the best in the world? With all due respect to Govan and a couple of other guys. No one can play better.
Allan grabbing Jeff Berlin at 1:46 was funny as hell! He obviously didn’t realise who it was at first, just thought it was some punter, and turned back to see it was God Almighty!! Two ex- U.K. colleagues catching up!
Its fantastic with Frank Gambale because he usually plays his solos below 12 fret. Where everyone else plays above 12. fret where its much easyer to play.
Frank is so cool! I was talking and hanging out with this guy, and he knew I didn't know who he was at that time. But he wasn't on no kind of trip, just regular.
every scale must thesame picking pattern up dowm up down ..i learned this from him many years ago ..but sorry but still i cant make it haha.. thats why for me your the best guitarist among the best!
Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Berlin Dennis and Chambers as well. This is music for musicians. Every time Frank does something mad, Allan goes with the stink face and the nodding head!

@@aldoiron1715 Actually I think that was Jeff Berlin.
Me too! Allan was a beautiful human being.

This man is unbelievable. AH as well. Both forever in my mind.
Laughing out of respect of that ludicrous riff.
I guess that's part of what makes Frank the guitarists guitarist. He performs flawlessly while Allan Holdsworth watches approvingly. I could feel a personal sadness in my heart when Allan passed.
haha if I knew Holdsworth was standing 10 feet away watching me, I'd be sweating bullets and I'd blow even playing Johnny B. Goode.
Frank can play just as awesome in my humble opinion.
ahahahah very good !
the guy talking to him was Jeff Berlin if i'm correct
@@LeviChangsMusic yep
TruthSurge i know that's right.

The affirmation from Holdsworth at 3:13 is priceless.
Jeff Berlin and Allan Holdsworth in the background ... Frank amazing as always
+Nick Kellie Ha.. I noticed that. Frank looks cool as a cucumber.
LOL..I also noticed that...Wow...
Thanks for pointing that out. I missed the first time. Frank and Alan are my two favs all time. So cool!
Also Ralphe Armstrong, great bass player.
Hah! 1/2 of Bruford and 2/3 of Allan's Road Games trio
Truth in Shredding.. in my top 10 albums of all time,.. Holdsworth and Gambale.
I think he is one of the few people who could play in front of Allen Holdsworth!

i hold frank above allan because frank can play more melodically.

5:12 Dennis Chambers, Alan Holdsworth and Jeff Berlin meeting.
Background music by Frank Gambale. OMG.
Every now and then, I come here to watch Allan and his innocent smiles as he was amazed and moved by Frank Gambale's improvisations...

Yeah, very sad. When I first heard Holdsworth (late 80´s!!) I was gobsmacked. A true giant of a musician.

Allan couldn't read music. He was limited when playing with others. Though, he was amazing at his own, and soloing over a predetermined progression.
nice to see Guthrie take photo of him
Lol and I see he got some new tats.

RIP Allan Holdsworth. seeing him here watching FG is so awesome
It's amazing to see Allan Holdsworth, a guitar monster in his own right, enjoying Frank's performance!
