    When I first started in Maintenance/Machine Repair I was taught to do an annual inspection of every machine. I was to go through and completely tighten and check every connection, fitting, bolt, screw, nut, or nail for tightness and continuity.
    That’s what I am doing with the 8N.
    As soon as I realized that it was a multiple failure problem I began checking off boxes on the annual maintenance.
    This time I am cleaning connections. At the same time I am checking for continuity and torquing the connections.
    It’s tedious, but when I’m done I will know exactly what is wrong and how to fix it.

    I think your shop is like my shop...the place where ONE project quickly turns into THREE !! I've got a super nice old, OLD roll around charger I bought at auction for a buck or two. It's great for electrolysis rust removal, and will be great for charging batteries if I ever get around to finding out why its output is only 10.5 volts on the 12 volt setting. LOL Good video my friend on the trials and tribulations of messing around with old tractors !!

    Good cleaning and check the battery charger. Right now a battery charger is probably cheaper than a battery. I replaced the battery my truck it was a 186 dollars. Good luck. Thanks 😊🙏

    Good old dielectric grease that people says don't work will help. The 8N don't have a lot to make a draw with. Ought to be easy to trace out. One of my chargers won't charge unless there's some juice left in the battery. I have to fool it with the other old Sears charger that's hot all the time and then it'll take off. The vehicles are fine as far as starting. The 2 riders are but I need to warm the Gravely up and even use it a little. Sumpee. The 8 will fire if not already done working and back in the tent. GBWYall!

      @@Weaver_Drafting I think the commentors on Watch Wes Work cuss the dielectric. Not me! I'm like your Grandpap and believe in grease of all kinds. I have all my electrical stuff in a Stanley box but need to get a spare bottle for in the shed. And the way the charger sounded there's probably a loose wire in there and that's all. Unc'll find it. Happy mowing and practicing for white stuff!

    That battery charger will not put out unless a battery is hooked to it. Common problem with motorcyclists and our teenie little bike batteries. If we run a jumper to a larger battery, the charger will kick on.
    I know I am late to the party and you already know this by now.

    Some help. I own a ford 8n that won't start, good spark, repl carb fuel comes out where the air intake is, but I took out one spark plug shot some fuel into it replaced plug and it ran for 2 seconds. Could it be a leaky intake manifold keeping it from sucking the fuel uphill into the engine

    • @OldSneelock
      @OldSneelock  Год назад +1

      Possible.
      Fuel coming out of the carb indicates the float valve is staying open. Pretty common with the 8N. I had to shut off the fuel valve so the tank wouldn't run dry.
      That will cause the engine to flood.
      I would check the float to make sure it is closing off the needle valve.
      To check the gaskets, Squirt some 30-weight oil on the intake gaskets. That will temporarily plug up any leaks.
