This is an amazing tutorial, thank you for sharing. I can't wait to get my tenor out and try it out soon. Would you be able to include a video on how to growl that would be appreciated. 😊
Jaimie, you are the unselfish Boss of explanation. Yep! Jay's "twin brother" you are as it pertains to the commitment to Music Education and the simplification of it. Thanks, champion🏆.
"And I thought I heard all" 😮 that's it from here on I'm considering you my teacher ❤ u when I learn how to play that trill I'll be a professional for sure I thank you very much 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks, Jamie. Great lesson on a cool tip. Can’t wait to try this when i get back. Any more tips like this i would love. Always trying to add a little spice like this to my solos in my community bands. Thanks, Jamie. You are the best! 🎷🎷💃🏿
So much fun. I believe Phil Woods did this too.....? Maybe everyone does. Well, they will now. lol Thanks Jamie! I think i'll do it now, and wake up my husband. =D
@@GetYourSaxTogether I find it's easier for me to trill the high E with the side of my forefinger, rather than thumb. I need that thumb for stability. =) Love all your vids! You have great energy.
Excellent explanation! I've seen this "taught" and demonstrated on about a half dozen videos on saxophone gimmicks, effects, etc. They all try to explain it in about 3 minutes and they all leave out your 3.A, 3.B, and 3C, which ob piously are crucial. Thanks to your having dissected it so nicely, now I know why mine never sounded quite right. Now I think I can finally get it right! Thanks. By the way, what kind of neck strap is that you're wearing?
Me sitting here with that piece of felt missing on my tenor...Now I've got to grab super glue when I'm out and cut a teeny piece of synthetic cork or something. I'll be back lol. Oh! Jamie I forgot to tell you to put a tenor reed on that mouthpiece I sent you lol. It plays so much easier. Can cut the reed (like how Lenny Pickett cuts bass clari reeds), or not depending on how it feels. I have to play that mouthpiece with a 2 alto and its tougher than with a 2.5 tenor reed.
Hi, Jamie, thanks for this video, obvious explanation. Can you make a video about this sax trill on Gala Freed From Desire Remix by LuGotti (Ibiza Sax Video) which starts from 47 second? Is this double staccato or something like that, how to do this stuff?
Wow, that's mental. You hear Charlie Parker do that sometime too. I'm not sure if he's doing a momentary tongue roll or if he's triple tonguing using a "tak-a-dee" vowel thing. Pretty cool whatever it is!!
You'll have to be more specific Dave, I don't understand what you're asking at the moment I'm afraid! When you add your side E to the "left hand fingering" of what note?
@@GetYourSaxTogether sorry I’ll explain . On the Cannonball trills you start on Bb Chromatically to D , just using normal sax fingering . But when I play Bb to D and add the trill note fingering ( side E) the note produced is practically none existent . So if I play say Bb the note is normal but if I add the side E , the note produced is awful , not a proper note . Just like trying to play a note with wrong fingering that didn’t exist . My sax plays well recently overhauled and I’ve been playing nearly 60yrs , don’t understand . I assumed if I played any note Bb to D with the side E it would produce a definite proper note but it doesn’t , please help
@@coss181 right. So yeh, that note when you add the side E isn’t really a very good note. It’s kinda janky, but it’s only there for a split second so it doesn’t matter. Make sense?
What's wrong with that? He teaches so much for free. He isn't obligated to do so. Just as you aren't obligated to pay for the extra bit if you don't want to.
@@GetYourSaxTogether I was teasing (snarky). I totally understand that you're being very generous with your knowledge. It's beyond my sax skill level anyway. Thank you and your team!

In America, the most famous sax player to use this trill technique that I grew up hearing was Boots Randolph, RIP.
Love Boots.
May he Yaketey Sax in heaven
I grew up listening to Boots Randolph do this technique on Tenor. It was one of his "signature" licks. Respects to Cannonball.

You gotta make a crust I guess.

Cool lick. I heard boots randolph play this luck many years ago. Brings back great memories. Thanks
Thanks
I often use two fingers on side Bb and C, basically playing percussion. Great vid mate.
Right, interesting!
This is so amazing!! Have played around w this for years and you nail it with all the frills and correct dynamics. Thanks so much.
Glad you like it! Thanks! 🙏
very good teacher today I will use it today I will play

another great player who utilizes this trick is Baptiste Herbin!
Cool
I would love to hear China in Your Hand the sax bit is incredible

Nice.
Brilliant, looking forward to seeing the extended version

I did it descending from high E,E flat,D
👍
I like your singing explanation bro 🥦

Great instructional segment. Btw what blues scale(s) does this trill best apply to?🤔
G blues.
