The Aermacchi were the only Harley's worth having. Evil Knieval used Aermacchi exclusively until whiners forced him to get on a tank twin made in USA by mob union workers. Evil and a specialist spent months lightening the USA Harley 4 stroke as much as possible. This was when Evil started wrecking his body, to appease Mafia losers.
Harley was good in it's WW2 era. As soon as Honda started getting imported into USA, Harley was second rate. BMW was a better bike, only started showing up in USA in numbers after Honda's starting getting imported. Obviously the BMW and Moto Guzzi much better bikes than the Harley.

Back in 71-72, I ran around on a 71 Hodaka 100 ace. A good friend who had an uncle that owned the local HD dealer gave him great deals on the 2 stroke Harley’s that were honestly not bad, actually had better suspension for trail riding than any of the Japanese trail bikes other than Hodaka. The first one he had was a 100 Baja, that wasn’t street legal but quite a quick and fast little stormer, that had two rear sprockets and a removable length of chain, that allowed for high torque low speed trail rides up to 50 mph, or a smaller sprocket mounted inside the bigger rear sprocket, that allowed for higher speeds u to 70 mph on hard packed moderately soft dirt runs, like Baja! After all it did place 1st in the Baja 100 class. That little beast ran right alongside another buddy’s Hodaka 100 Super Rat, to 50 mph, with the high speed setup at 50 walked away from the Rat, but only from 50 on! The next one was just like the high front fender 175 HD with the side pipe and knobby tires, but was street legal with all the lights. That ran great.

As a bike fan, I never understood the appeal of Harley's except they are an American company. I will say I do enjoy the Harley's from the 30's to the 50's but that's about it. I'm more a Honda and Kawasaki guy myself. (Massive shout out to the CBR1100XX!)

Wow! Ya know what’s crazy?! It really has that Italian moto street bike sound to it! Amazing! That is the perfect bike to whip around town and that’s exactly why they are so perfect in small Italian towns with narrow streets and stone paths etc. Beautiful piece to add to any bike collection! The welds may not be great but a couple things Italians are really good at are bikes and cars, idc what anyone says lol

"Listen, buddy, riding an RD 350 or a Yezdi Roadking isn’t just owning a bike-it’s signing up for a cult of legends where the exhaust note is your war cry and every ride is a battle against boring commuters! The RD 350 will have you grinning like a lunatic as you leave everything in your smoky 2-stroke dust cloud, and the yezdi Roadking? That’s for when you want to look like a king who just conquered the highway. Forget ABS and rider modes-real bikers ride these beasts because the only traction control we need is courage and a good grip on the handlebars!"

i got a new one back in 76 but it had dirt tires on front and rear. and the rear sprocket was was 2 in one. not sure of the teeth but it was like a 70 tooth and a 45 tooth sprocket you pulled the large one off and shorten the chain that had to master links and put it back together

When I was a kid in the 70s we had the little Harleys. MY dad's boss owned the local harley shop so I got the 73 z-90, my brother had the 125 rapid and the 73 TX 125 and sx175. I took the 125 and dad got one too. Both 73s. Then he got the 74 sx 250, I traded the 73 125 in on a 75 sxt 125. Alot of memories on these bikes, all the other kids called them Tonka toys. Wish I still had the last one.

The stripes on the tanks were different every year. I had two 76s. One SX125 and one SS250. Loved those bikes. The 125 we had to pull start it. usually with my 72 Honda CB450. The 250 after I rebuilt the carb was a one kick start. The biggest problems those bikes had was the carbs. Once they were dialed in....those were great bikes. Alot of people didnt like them. I would take another right now.

Absolutely.. especially on old Italian bikes!! The Jap oil injection was actually pretty reliable for the most part if they were adjusted right. I had an old Suzuki 125 twin that had oil injection and after tinkering with it for a few days, I finally got it to where it didn't foul plugs regularly, but still smoked a bit (we were using Castrol 2 stroke oil back then). I rode that thing for about 2 years before I gave it to my brother when I bought a brand new CB350F in 1974!😉👍👍

I had 2 Harley bobcats back inthe 60s a blue one and a red one they both had one piece fiberglass body's a 175cc 2 stroke motor with built in 3 speed circular transmissions! I bought both of the for 275 dollars in 1965 they were made in 1964! I gave them to a friend of mine in the 70s when I got sent to Germany when I was in the army . The only thing bad about them you could not ride in water or in the rain they would short out the ignition and you had to push them home and after about 12 hours of drying out they would crank back up! The ignition plate on the side of the crank case was not water proof and the point's would get wet and no spark! Have to wait until they dried out! They were used a lot by me and my friends for about 14 years!😊

Then the Honda 750 popped up. Now it wasn't super cool to ride a sportster. But by then my daily was a 1948 panhead.

Polio was eliminated in the industrialized world by the 1970’s. I remember receiving the Saulk and then the Sabin vaccines in school as a child in the late 50’s and early 60’s. No more children living their lives in an Iron Lung. No more leg braces and crutches.
Now we can look forward to that all over again, as folks in the industrialized nations start to shun vaccines, led by the USA.

Older natural rubber lasted nearly forever. I have a homemade car trailer from a camper frame with original 1970's bias ply tires mounted on old Dexter wheels. I tow trailer hundreds of loaded interstate miles and don't own a spare tire.
Today, many rubber components rot and have to use EFI fuel line with a carb so that the fuel line lasts more than 2 years.

26:13 you need to take the spark plug out and put some oil and gas mix right in the cylinder and then kick it over a few times after tipping it left and right, its most likely some surface rust in there, use a light spray of quick start/gas to in intake to get it going to lube the throttle slider as well

I recently saw a story where a guy had found a Walt Disney World from the late 70's but Disney had gone ahead and honored it. Harley has someone show up with an ancient voucher that is doing a RUclips video about a brand new 50 year old bike of theirs and tells the dude to hit the road and to order one on ebay. The security guard was much more helpful than their executive. They could have at least given him a digital copy. I am about to buy another bike, have struggled with buying a Harley again and I see this...

Quite intriguing. When HD sold the whole asset and the projects to the italian Cagiva (that wasn't yet a motorcycle producer), I think about in the 1975 - 1976, Cagiva called it SST and reduced the engine to 125 cc. for the 16 years old bikers (in Italy you can drive a 125 cc. bike at 16 years of age). The SST (and later SXT) sold quite well, until Cagiva developed the Aletta Rossa, a 125 cc enduro that someway gave the birth to the italian enduro market for the 16 y.o. teenagers. Of course 125 cc. enduro already existed, but the big boom began somehow with Cagiva. As far as I remember.
