- Glacial Cascade Mine Saboteur Path of Exile League Starter Build Guide for Harbinger League - cheap, fast, fun and a solid way to earn currency and get established in the new league.
Only recommend unique is Tremor Rod, which is pretty common and cheap typically (we'll see!) but build is fine without it (burst damage is actually higher but slower clear speed and less QoL).

As someone who has played mines for a long time, I really appreciate someone like you highlighting that it's not as clunky as it seems to play. It's effective and safe, and considering how easy it is to get a 5 linked staff to roll +2 cold gems the damage is never an issue.
The only issue with a build like this is life. You get all the usual suspects, but you're not using a shield most of the time. Kaom's Heart can be used, but Carcass Jack gives a lot of damage so it's gonna tempt me like it always does.

Love this build. Lot of fun. If you get a bit of spare cash I'd advise picking up a Lavianga's Spirit Sanctified Mana Flask. It works GREAT with this play style once you have Mind Over Matter. You get hit by a large-ish pack, hit mana flask and free-cast while mana fills back up. Everything falls down and refills your mana flask charges and you are ready to rinse and repeat. Still want vaal clarity for bosses, but this flask is a godsend for speed clearing.

An oldy but a goody. Where my mine career started.
I love these skills that gives you a pre-defined damage (like 10-20) and not scaled based on %, so getting gear is much more simplified based on life, mana and/or resistance
I love the way you "Casually" killed the Tier 13 Triple Bosses.. They were a struggle to do even on my 6 Link Cycloner on previous league with 130,000 Dps. And now Boss HP are buffed further !!! Holy shit this build is strong..

Hi, I would like to buy your Tremor Rod listed for 50 exalted in Harbinger.
There are multiple reasons why items like Tremor Rod will never be able to be as expensive as other uniques (like Shavs or Kaom's Hearth), the main one being that they are not as rare.
Most people will never see a Kaom's Heart or Shavs; but seeing 4 Tremor Rod drops is not rare.
Granted, maybe they are worth more Chaos than usually early on because ZiggyD promoted it, but soon enough there will be more Tremor Rods in the market than people playing the build, EVEN if EVERYONE was playing the build.
Worst case scenario (if you actually think it could go into the Exalteds, which it won't) you can chance it really easily. Not only is the only Unique Military Staff, but its a common unique. Comparable to getting ANY unique leather belt when you are looking for a Head Hunter.
I suppose you were just exaggerating and being funny, but felt like explaining this for possible viewers :-P

See, when I heard about this build, I thought "man does that sound boring," but the video actually makes this build look really fun! Shame I'm already set on a starter but I think anyone who picks this is in for a good first build.

Currently on lvl 60 and I'm having a blast... Nearly all unique bosses go down on 1-2 hits. Only issue this far I get with some misses or with wider spread of monsters on maps. THX Ziggy :D
Playing this as starter for 3.1 and having so much fun, lvl 80 already
Never really got behind mines myself, but this build is making me want to actually try them out for once (I'm usually more of a trap kind of guy). Really just glad that GC got some love, I really liked the skill before but now you can scale damage much easier and better, and it's way more flexible due to the Physical with Cold Conversion. Might have to try this build out, and/or maybe make a few of my own (Maybe something like this but as Inquisitor?)

They have changed the Passive Skill Tree in regards to Blast Radius and Annihilation. You can no longer path through them to the jewel socket. They are now closed loops per the final 3.0 patch notes.
Man i know nothing about this game, i've only played the beta, but this expansion got me interested a lot (got pissed at d3 and flushed it down the toilet). Also those magic effects looks beautiful.
Added Fire Damage also works on this. I am using it at the moment.

You didn't mention that the Tremor Rod is a str/int weapon, so getting BBBBBG on it is ridiculously difficult.
Fair point. Took me a couple hundred chromes. And being six-link, you can't use Vorici's jeweler hack.

I got the colors by accident just trying to get the colors for my 6 sockets 4 Link... I just need to link it now FeelsBadMan
If you're picking up the rainbow drops for chromatic orbs, as you should be, you shouldn't have any problem getting the needed colors. It isn't as difficult as you think. My Tremor Rob isn't 6L'ed yet so I change the colors around as needed for leveling gems and get BBBBBG all the time.
I can't believe I've never thought of using spell totem - detonate mines, god I'm a fuckwit, awesome build Ziggy!
It's been a thing since mine builds existed... that's basically what the detonate mines gem is used for. It's actually slower to self detonate using the gem (the built in detonate that comes up when you lay a mine activates faster), but it's the only way you can have detonate mines linked to any other gem.
how do i get the Detonate Mines Gem? i have no idea any more ...
It's a white gem, so it's a drop. I bought mine for 1 chaos.

I used to play this build right before Ascendancies came out and had a blast, it wasn't meant for HC but I did it and died in the first map I reached because I hadn't finished my CWDT + Detonate Mines setup yet and I got hit by 5 heavy phys hits simultaneously.. :[

Im not ziggy but I rushed for demolitions expert because the first area gives increase to initial burst and then the last one gives sustain damage. I plan on going for the one that gives more penetration after and then going with the blind last because feel that if can burst the enemy then dont really need survival and the survival passive i will get when i prob will need it. I find that if I can set up against a boss i do a lot of damage and then i just run around and place mines till totem gone then i stack a bit of them around the area and then place totem again which kind of resets the ascendancy passive for more mines more damage. I dont have tremor rod right now and so I am actually using mark of the doubting knight because got for cheap and gives crit and lots of damage and resistance so Im just using that till i get tremor. There are probably better items but right now it works because the attack speed debuff doesnt affect you since only casting and the increased physical damage helps scale abilities which allows physical portion to be electric which is main goal
Whatever I said could be wrong since this is my first league in sense that doing at beginning in that I only got to act 3 or 4 on normal for previous league so yeah didnt really play much before just a noob but that was my logic for what i did. I also got lucky and got Aztiris foible which helps with most my mana issues I think it is a good necklace at least i haven't had mana problems with it while people usually with this build say they do.

I'm playing this build, or close to it, and it's really great. I am still wondering though, with weapons, asides from the staff you are using, if spell damage, physical damage, or global crit are the way to go. Since Glacial Cascade deals physical damage, would increased physical damage in weapons and other places improve this, or will that only apply to attack skills? And is spell damage or crit chance/multiplier more important?
Any written guide related to this?

yes. it won't have as much single target dmg for bosses, so it'll take a little longer, but it works fine. you can also use frostbolt as a spell totem build. Liftingupnerd has a guide for it if you're interested in that instead.

This build is awesome against bosses (still lvl 83, got boots, helmet, unset ring and Tremor Rod 6L) it's good for cleaning too btw BUT atm it's not really cheap, 500chaos for Tremor Rod 6L and prices are climbing everyday ^^ but it's fun :) I like it btw !

I have a slight difference between what Ziggy shows on the video and what Path of building shows. Some of the skills are slightly different, level of arcane surge with flame dash. I havent compared the skill tree yet tho. Which one is more recent between the PoB and vid?

I don't think this is endgame, Scorching Ray and RF are endgame.. But hard to setup, Require some Uniques and stuff. But I believe this build works fine with just rares and good for a First character, to form some currency and transition over to a better build later in 3 - 5 days.
Some dude in the top 20 on the leaderboards is using this build.

I do have a question though. I never got to endgame before because I couldn't stand the idea of having to play the game multiple times in a row; now that that's no longer an issue I look forward to going all the way. If I buy a tremor rod early on, do I have to replace it for a higher level one later? Never really understood how it all worked with uniques and item levels.
You don't have to worry about that, This is not an endgame build. Its just a build that gets you going, Till you can farm enough currency and transition over for a better build. So, You wont even require a Tremor Rod, any Rare Weapon with Spell damage would be sufficient. Tremor Rod just makes it easier.
SO think of this as a Transition build, Not an endgame build. Plan another build that you aim to make, While farming with this.
The tremor rod can be used all the way to endgame but make sure that the itemlevel (which is shown when you hover over it and press ALT) of it is atleast 50 which is required to make it 6 socket
If you get a level 45-49 tremor rod you wont be able to six link, 50+ and you can keep it as long as you like!
is Carcass Jack Varnished Coat good for this build?
