For sure Catholicism influenced the Kalinago/Garinagu. However Catholicism was already adopted by the Garinagu in the mid 1600's in Waitukubuli and Yurumein through their alliance with the French. Look into Father Raymond Breton who wrote the first Garifuna/French French/Garifuna dictionary around 1675. And of course Paramount Chief Joseph Chatoyer is about as French Catholic name as you can get. Virtually all Garinagu had French Catholic names when expelled from Yurumein. They were given Spanish last names upon arrival into Spanish Catholic Honduras. Catholicism was already well established into Garinagu culture by the time they reached the shores of Roatan in 1797.

@@ThenCameRoatan Check into the connection of the word Mali in the Dugu. Mali is the healing. The source of strength. Oral history to origins right there.

From what I've learn yes the garifuna name were French but taking to a historian the garifuna in Saint vincent refuse for churches be built on there land they refuse being catholic because on the island they saw how the other African were treated remember on that island they were africans slaves and they were the garifuna who weren't slaves , so they saw how they were treated , the catholic was adopted more once they reach punta Gorda if you know the European everywhere they went they force there religion on people and all of them lost there culture the gariuna till this day still honor there ancestors also they didn't write anything everything is in the dugu song if you wanna know about the garifuna listen to the dugu song and in all those songs you r not gonna find Jesus Christ name in them or anything about catholic, I lived in the us all my life I moved to honduras because 3 years ago because the spirits called me and wanted me to leave at first I didn't know what the hell they were saying and I didn't know what the hell I was seeing but talking to a buyei they told me what they wanted I been here ever since.

And also when one is colonized you forget who you are just like the African American in the us they lost everything the fact that we as garifuna still have our culture thats proof that they never were colonized they knew of the religion yes but never became catholic in Saint vincent thats what this historian told me raymond live with the garufuna in Saint vincent in fact he knew the language as well but he wasn't successful converting them into catholic

I found this spiritual system after visiting Lisa Left Eye Lopes memorial in GA and honoring her spirit with offerings. Since then Ive felt like she's been guiding my spiritual journey to understanding systems from Numerology to Voodoo. I've already been studying and practicing IFA, then going on a "Ancestor Guided" deeper journey into syncronizing other spiritual systems and dieties. It's been amazing, and I found this system by knowing of course that Lisa passed in Honduras... Syncing Santeria, IFA, and Catholic energies all of information is aligning! I'm loving this "Symbiotic Ancestor" bond, always being led to connections 🙌🏿🙏🏾

It's not really taught, you have to be in it to learn it, spend time in the community. In our village the say "let the ancestors guide you."
