  • Is this the best caravan layout in the UK right now for camping? Well that's a tough question.
The Swift challenger 560 is one of the most popular rear island bed caravan layouts at the moment, The rear island bed layout is very sought after but this 4 berth caravan won't work for everyone while camping.
It's a great couples caravan or occasional 3 / 4 berth caravan, but it won't work for larger families needing a 6 berth layout.
The swift challenger 560 is very high spec and this even has the Truma air conditioning fitted to the roof.
This is a new caravan at used caravan price.

We spent over 12 months looking around numerous caravans until we decided on a layout that suited us best. We dismissed the layout of the caravan in this video almost immediately and bought a brand new Coachman VIP 575/4 in 2016. It has a rear washroom and transverse bed and we absolutely love it without reservation. What's more, nothing on the market at this time would tempt us to trade it in for something else.
Love your videos and the down to Earth way you present them. Keep up the great work 😊👍

steve P hi my wife nd myself have been looing at this Coachman 575 you have, for a while and i need to ask the question do you find the wardrobe space too small for a 4 birth. I know ours will only have the 2 of us but if we took grandchildren we would struggle for clothes space. My wife thinks the space is too small just for 2 of us. I know we could use under bed storage. let me know Thanks Simon

We had exactly the same layout in our Sterling Elite. Literally had it 6 months and sold it, we thought the layout would work but didn’t. It felt very claustrophobic, being only 7’ 6” wide there very little room beside the bed and the cupboards beside the bed on the floor are a nightmare to reach into to get things in and out. The bathroom is quite small as well being only a single axle. For us it just didn’t flow very well, but each to their own.

Thanks Colin, we used to walk in this layout and say it was not for us as the front seating area felt tiny. We tried it out, it worked great for us. Our daughter can be at the front and us at the back, 2 doors and a bathroom between us, we can't hear all her noise.

Looks fantastic we where looking at one of these or Elddis Avante went for the Elddis just because of the light colour units also so many cupboards to store plus it was on a special price

Got a 2017 Bailey Cordoba. Cannot find anything to beat it for us. Twin beds (albeit one shorter than the other), rear bathroom with wardrobe, laundry bin and cabinet, sideboard for big TV, 14 overhead lockers, loads of drawers, all services to offside, lockers on awning side, 40l onboard water. Don't have to go through a locker to get toilet cassette as on some newer models. Its been thought through. We reupholstered the seats and cushions, made new curtains, sourced new carpets, made the fridge facia black and installed a mirror fronted microwave. I'd put it up against anything. £70k for a motorhome? Let me think.

Great caravan, the only thing that would put me off is the fixed bulkhead at the end of the bed as I am over 6'2'.

My lad has the same layout, 2018 (I think) and his wife loves it, so dose he. The only moan he has is the swift commaned'he hates it, he can't understand why things have to be so complecated. Like you say "it's a cracking good van" . I have just splased out on a 2023 Swift Elite 480 Ideal for me as I'm a single vanner now. Had a couple of shake down trips. So far so good

The centre washroom for me is the best layout.
My last a 8ft wide rear washroom. And i hated squeezing by rhe bed all the time.

The UK caravan manufacturers need to move with the times, the front seating with the draw unit is very old fashioned for my liking, take a look at hobby and other European manufacturers with the C shape lounge, by the way, we love your content👍🏻

Here's one for you then please do a video.. the best caravan layouts in the UK for a family of five.
And I'm a lorry driver so it has to be 8ft and twin axle otherwise I won't go near it

But no big underbed storage with a rear wall fitted bed. And def no split door that a shame. Bet its heavy too. Swifts always seem to be. Has it got 3 gas +1 electric in the kitchen ?

So much storage - I'll swear I'd end up losing stuff !
I knew someone who had the same predicament and she used to stick post-it notes on the locker doors.
    Honestly 😲

Can anyone suggest a layout for a family of 4? Children are now 14 and 11. We have had an Abbey Vogue GTS 517 with front and rear fold down doubles but they fought and argued in the double. Then moved onto our current Vogue 540 6 berth with fixed bunksat the rear across the width of the van and a dinette that can convert into a further pair of bunks.
Daughters now finding the bunks too constricting and claustrophobic.
    Is their a better layout?

Possibly worth having a good look around your local dealers at the different layouts, spending a bit in the ones you think may work. Hope this helps.

We bought the 2021 Swift challenger 560, its a what Mark might say " A cracking good van". The layout is ideal for us. Having the living space being able to be closed off from bathroom with a proper door, and with the sliding doors to each side of the bedroom to isolate it from the bathroom, with a separate shower and toilet each side of the van and on the bulkhead in the middle to the bed a decent washroom/bathroom sink.
It has been said on other RUclips review channels as a 4 berth caravan, as the front seats can be made into a double. But it's an "ideal couples van".
Being 7' 6" wide single axle van, we are not restricted to any sites that do not allow twin axle and or 8foot wide caravans onsite.
    Only a couple of niggles.
Only one side of the bed having an on/off light switch and power, say to charge the phone, not both sides of the bed. only one power socket and USB outlet on the front but that can be easily remedied.
Only an 80watt solar panel fitted as standard and a Sargent PWM charge controller installed instead of a 100watt+ solar panel & a MPPT charge controller. (I think the charge controller has been changed to an MPPT on newer models).
A larger/upgraded solar panel and MPPT controller than what's fitted as standard, is a better option when going away for more than a few days if going off grid.

Fantastic van but I am not a fan of this layout I like the bathroom at the back with a fix bed just before the bathroom

100% hate this layout. The bathroom in the middle use would not work for us. I have colitis so stopping my wife going from bedroom to living room or the other way just seem silly. The best layout is the one you bought and love with some niggles because all caravans have something we don’t like.

I absolutely love this layout… was my favourite at the caravan show last year…. It’s just 2 of us and our Rhodesian Ridgeback dog, so the lay out is great.. just need to keep doing the lotto to upgrade from our senator indiana( which we love)
