I love using rivals. It's a great way to teach lessons to your group indirectly. Having one of the rivals die or get disfigured puts some weight on things. I also like showing off tactics to newer players through rivals.

Always a pleasure getting to deep dive into Matt's mind. Can't wait to sit down with our copy of the book!

Everything I hear about this book and the ways to improve playability have me chomping at the bit. Only hours to go before it is in my greedy little hands!

The rival party is SUCH a good concept, totally going to implement something like that in one of my games :)

For Matt every NPC is a DMPC in all the best ways! He lives in his world through them but they are just as vulnerable as the PCs. That's why his NPCs feel so real... because the are!

it sounds like it could be D&D 5e module that actually will do what a good module should do - help make a great story with my group.

If you are okay with it, and you really want to scare your players, encourage the players to scry on their rivals from time to time, and then, roll in secret for them, and if you roll a Nat1 for the rival party, and you were wanting to show the danger ahead, kill one of the rivals, and describe how they die to the scrying player. Depending on your player's relationship with the rival party, it could spur them into any number of actions. (Just make sure that rival's death means something, don't just kill of the one you personally don't like RPing as, or kill them for no reason. RP how all of the other members feel about that rival's death, make it more than just an NPC's death)

Is there a place where we can watch the full-length chat? I assume all these 5 min snippets are actually part of larger interviews/chats/recordings?

Not as of now but maybe after all the snippets are released

Having a rival party is a fun way to even use NPCs from PCs storyline if appropriate.

Would it be a good idea to go from LMoP to CotN?

    • @googleuser2609
      @googleuser2609 2 года назад

Yes, no reason why you couldn't --- and by the time PCs finish LMoP, they will be at around the correct level (3rd) to begin CotN.
The PCs could switch worlds, transporting somehow into the world of Exandria. Thus, they are visitors,. or the Phandelver thing could be sent in Exandria all along.
Just make sure that PCs do not have lots of magic items by the time they start CotN, as CotN can easily begin for a party devoid of magic items altogether!

The title of the video should be updated. It currently reads 'Call of the Nethedeep, and it should be 'Call of the Netherdeep'

Muy grande el que este en la pagina en Castellano y que me pidan que compre cosas en Ingles. Algo falla en tu lógica. A ver si nos tratan mejor.

Wizards of the Coast must translate the stuff in all the country version BEFORE exit in original. It’s a big company, We expect this from her.

Honestly I’m not a fan of the rival party thing. I haven’t finished reading the campaign, but if I can I am going to take them out.

    TL;DR Tips in this video:
Roleplay the NPCs written in the book.
Don't be afraid to scare the players by running the content...in the book.

Can you please publish the whole interview in addition to these microscopic pieces tailored to people with an attention span of a bumblebee? Long videos work totally fine on RUclips. Ask Matt. ;) Thank you.
