Helped us get the dishwasher back into service the night before Thanksgiving! Yeah! Thank you! Easy to understand and your examples are good. Some of the best DIY video I've seen, and you spoke clearly with a lot of pauses. I really like watching an expert at work.
This was a really useful video Andrew. I appreciate your effort. I know this is an old post but maybe somebody will see this. The part with the round perforated stainless steel screen and the four blades is the chopper assembly. It is in line with the spray pump. There is a second pump, just to the right of the chopper that pumps the water out to the drain. The drain pump isn't visible but if you look at 4:07 in the video, the hole to the drain pump is directly underneath where the screwdriver is pointing. The two black rubber strips, visible at 4:15 are part of the sump check valve, which is located to the right of the drain hole, preventing the drain water from flowing back into the dishwasher. While the chopper doesn't do anything directly effecting the draining of the water, it does make the food particles smaller, which may help them flow out of the dishwasher better. The chopper is spring loaded. To remove/install the chopper, the blades, which aren't really very sharp, should be pulled away from the screen. This retracts the chopper axle away too, allowing you to install the part correctly. A pair of pliers or a screwdriver can be inserted between the chopper blades and the screen to retract it. Once you get good at it, you can even retract the blades with your fingers while you install/remove it. After installing the chopper assembly, remove whichever tool used, or release the blades if you used your fingers. When you release the blade, the axle snaps back against the end of the pump axle. Make sure to get the teeth fully engaged against each other or it might slip off or get chewed up. You have to look at it closely to verify the teeth are engaged. My dishwasher wasn't draining, leaving the entire bottom full of nasty water after it had been run. I found the rubber sump check valve, leading to the drain pump cavity was coated with mineral deposits (we have hard water) and dishwasher solution. I scraped all that off with a xacto knife, careful not to damage to the rubber. After cleaning the hole to the left of the check valve, I reinstalled the check valve. So far, it's draining everything from the dishwasher. My next step is to run some cleaning solution through the dishwasher. I'm still trying to figure out how to put that in so it will recirculate and not drain. I want to run the cleaning solution for an entire cleaning cycle to dissolve all the mineral deposits, dishwasher soap, etc. I may disconnect the drain pump electrical, start a dishwasher cycle, then after it's full of water, turn off the water valve. I don't know if this will work but it'll be my first attempt.
I had already checked everything you said including the disposal except the drain line leading to it. I re-cleaned everything the hose wasnt clogged but decided to turn the blades in the DW with a screwdriver & run the disposal again. This seems to happen a LOT with appliances bought from Lowes and Im pretty sure theyre selling B grade and below to consumers as weve had everything we buy from them tear up in less than 2 yrs and many times by the second use. After turning the food disposal blades & running it again it now works.
Just helped us with our vintage 2009 Kenmore Elite dishwasher. We had clips instead of screws at one point but otherwise your video helped immensely. Thanks!!!
Just fyi, the “bits” you referred to are “screws”. The actual “bit” that fits in your screwdriver (not “torque wrench”) is a “Torx” T-20 and T-15. Hopefully this will keep some DIYer from getting the stink eye at the hardware store when he/she/it asks for these items. Also, thank you for mentioning that the plastic nut thingy that holds the bottom sprayer arm on is reverse-threaded. I broke the ears off of mine when I tried to loosen it in the direction any reasonable man would, and then had to wrestle the rest of it loose with channel-lock pliers. You said it quickly but I caught it!
Thank you so much for not avoiding the small white circle washer thing. Most people don't show that and I've a tough time remembering where exactly it fits and for so bravely showing the removal of that metal circle thing with the holes in it. Many folks say not to bother to remove it because it's hard to get it back in place. Thanks for the courage to deal with the gritty stuff.
Thank this man times a million. Drain to my garbage disposal was clogged. I uncloged it with a coat hanger. Saved me from having to talk to the awful apartment office people.
Totally helped...when I woke up this morning, the dishwasher wouldnt drain. Watched the video, cleaned it out and now it seems to be draining. Saved me from going out and buying a new one (this one is five years old) or calling in a repair man.
I watched a few vids before finding yours and yours was the most helpful! Very user friendly and the angles were perfect. Im going to see if I can try and fix my dishwasher as it wont drain properly at the end of the cycle and Ive also noticed that when it does drain, the water is dirty. If I cant do it myself I will just get a plumber but Im going to try and tackle it myself first....
This was most excellent. One bit, I couldn't see exactly how the tab was pushed when you removed the housing to the garbage disposal you mentioned to use a screwdriver but I couldn't tell which way you moved the tab. I just lifted it from the other side where the screw had been and it came off easily! Great job on showing us how it was all done. My Whirlpool QuietPartnerIII had the same bottom configuration. Thanks!
This is awesome! I've never seen the innards of a dishwasher before so it felt like a little adventure (hiding in plain sight, an everyday appliance - who knew?) and I was able to clean my dishwasher's parts to fix our problem. Thanks for posting!
Thank you very much my friend I did as you say, I checked the hoses and I was behind the vessel's disposal hanged, folded in half and this obstructed the passage of water, it was as simple as fixing that. Subscribed !! and like
Good video, Andrew, thanks. I think a jug of vinegar would be helpful in dissolving a lot of that "gunk" you show. (It seems to have a high calcium content...which vinegar works well on.) Oh, and in case anyone was confused, Andrew's using TORX drivers...not TORQUE drivers.
Are homeowners supposed to regularly clean that filter (and other parts) to avoid having problems? Sure is a lot of trouble if so. I can't even turn that first "nut" on the spray arm; I can't even hold it while turning the arm to loosen it. Thanks for the demonstration.
I pushed the spring down as far as I could towards the circular disc and used a pair of pliers to grip the other side. With the spring fully compressed, you can try to guide the white plastic gear in place so that when you loosen the pliers, it secures into place. The circular disc should sit in the groove. Then assemble the washer, blade, and cap.
Okay. I did all the usual things. Everything checks out but when I measured the voltage on the drain pump during the drain cycle there was none. Is the controller bad? Is there a switch that controls the power to that motor that controls when it turns on?
Great video, so helpful. But how did you get that last "garbage disposal" type piece back on? The video switched to the next thing before you had put it back on.
It is a very helpful video, but I wasn’t able to removed the first screw that get me into the filter part. Any recommendation? The screw still looks like loosing it a little and then get tied it again. It is nothing like you show in the video. My dishwasher is working fine but starting smell funny. I’m very picky person and I would love to have it clean
Does the stainless steel screen you removed have a screw holding it on or does it just pop off. And does the drain pipe have a check valve on on the pump end.
it was good that you showed the pump but you failed to show us where it's located and how to access it for removal. Not sure if that was intentional or not.
I have a kitchenaid dishwasher and it drains alittle bit and then stops. The dishwasher continues to rumble as it tries to drain. Does this mean my drain pump is bad? Do drain pumps work intermittently or is there some other issue?
Our dishwasher isn't draining, has a metallic/burning plastic smell, and leaked a little from the front bottom. Is this dishwasher repairable or a gonner?
Hello, your vid was indeed a good one, Just want to ask, our dishwasher had a code and it said E30... we are not using it for a long time and this christmas season i am about to use it but its flooding and there is a E30 code... can we still fix it? Thank you if you can answer me back.
at first i was like “okay yeah i can do this” but then it got into TOUCHING the junk and i would actually die so ya know i’ll just have to call a plumber 😅
How about samsug water wall issue: Not draining during the cycles, drainin water after 3secund pressing start (drain) Dishwasher is brand new. No fauld code on Lcd. Please help
Hi, good job there. I am getting error code 20 on IKEA dishwasher. Changed drain pump and on water sensor. Nothing blocking tubes. Still error same error code. Also it seems like no water is entering the machine. Maybe change water inlet solenoid? Any ideas? :-)
my problems started after I began making sourdough bread at home. If I don't completely wipe off the utencils and bowls before washing them it coats the pipes with sticky nastyness.

ONE OF THE BEST HOW-TOS I'VE SEEN. Excellent detail, covered every step and gotcha, clear and exact.

And also thanks for steadying the video camera AND for providing proper lighting.!
Five stars, you helped me figure out what was wrong with my friend's dishwasher.

I was able to fix my issue using 2 cups of Apple Cider Vinegar and I also sprinkled some cornflour into the dishwasher! Woo hoo!!
Thanks!!! I just followed this and fixed my dishwasher!! Who needs a man in the house?! Thanks!!
And this is why I love youtube!!!! Just fixed my dishwasher. Thank you! :)
Dmalcolm1 z.
ME TOO! Its amazing the things I have learned.

Great troubleshooting video. Thorough and concise. Covers many of the simple fixes...thanks

Great video, easy to follow. By the way. If you rince your dishes before dishwashing, youwill never clog.
Amen I wash off before.
This video was very clear and most helpful ,camera spotting very unambiguous Thanks
You should mention that not all kitchens have disposals. The DW drain hose may connect to an arm of the sink drain.
Thank you for helping fix my dishwasher. Clogged macerator inlet.
Good video, Andrew, thanks. I think a jug of vinegar would be helpful in dissolving a lot of that "gunk" you show. (It seems to have a high calcium content...which vinegar works well on.)
Oh, and in case anyone was confused, Andrew's using TORX drivers...not TORQUE drivers.
Thank you. I had a clogging problem with my dishwasher and I was able to solve it with your directions.
Wow looks exactly like my dishwasher. Video very helpful.
The most informative video out there on this topic. Thank you!!!!
Thanks! Lowes’ installer did not remove plug from garbage disposal, even after I reminded him to check it!
Awesome job my man this was very helpful as I add this project to the long list of things to do in this property that I am renting for a minute.
Thanks for sharing this video with us.
Very well explained and demonstrated. Still won’t work, so I guess I’ll be looking at the pump.

I sometimes take a shop vac to the drain hose to make sure it's clean! No mess!
I knew from your name that you would know exactly what was up, very smart guy.😏🤘
to remove the top rack clips press the middle and pull in toward the the opposite runner.
Just fixed this dishwasher. Thank you.
PERFECT EXPLANATION
THANKS
Thanks! Details are appreciated.
How do you get the circular disc with the blade next to it back into its spot? I am sure there is a simple way, but I have yet to figure it out.
Clear & concise, very helpful

Great video, so helpful. But how did you get that last "garbage disposal" type piece back on? The video switched to the next thing before you had put it back on.
Sunday morning project- done by 10am thanks to this video. Rubber feet from trivet was the culprit!
LOL, ours was a top to the Simply Orange cap that broke off...
i watched six videos before this one. Yours is the only one that answered my questions. Thanks for keeping it simple
Thank you, I'm going to try your tips.
Great Video! Thank you!!
It is a very helpful video, but I wasn’t able to removed the first screw that get me into the filter part. Any recommendation? This video helps me a lot... Thanks for you.. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you, now the backed up water isn't my biggest problem anymore.
Thank you, this was a great help
3:45 Would my sister's toothbrush work okay?
Great video! The best!
Does the stainless steel screen you removed have a screw holding it on or does it just pop off. And does the drain pipe have a check valve on on the pump end.
Nice video, you did a good job.
it was good that you showed the pump but you failed to show us where it's located and how to access it for removal. Not sure if that was intentional or not.
Very useful.
Not sure where you were in the last part that showed electrical wires? And I do not have a garbage disposal, but my sink is not backing up.
Thanks for this one. Im on my knees hoping that cleaning or the seeds will make the noise go away.
I have a kitchenaid dishwasher and it drains alittle bit and then stops. The dishwasher continues to rumble as it tries to drain. Does this mean my drain pump is bad? Do drain pumps work intermittently or is there some other issue?
I have a white ball in my drain outlet, is that suppose to be there??
Can't seem to get the disposal cover off. If there a trick? You used a screw driver. The cover seems to be extremely tight due to mineral deposits.
Very good job. far better than other videos. Thanks
Thanks! I really try to do the best job I can. Glad it helps.
Thank you. This really worked
Thanks so much
Our dishwasher isn't draining, has a metallic/burning plastic smell, and leaked a little from the front bottom. Is this dishwasher repairable or a gonner?
It was great but you needed to show how to take the pump off and where it's located and how to clean it out...
Hello, your vid was indeed a good one,

Awesome video. Thanks!
thank you
Thank you..This saved me from my parents taking my Money.
Thank you! That’s exactly what I needed.
thank you! drain was clogged :)
Will the circulation pump cause the dishwasher not to drain?
Thanks Andrew -- Over to me now... Great Video and enjoyed your commentary
gonna give it a shot....let you know later what I find.
This was a great video! Thanks so much!
Coke and raw sugar in the outflow works everytime
Excellent
Thanks for the quick fix!
at first i was like “okay yeah i can do this” but then it got into TOUCHING the junk and i would actually die so ya know i’ll just have to call a plumber 😅
Seriously? You spit a baby out of your body but you can't touch gunk? Maybe you just wanted the attention of a male plumber???
George she just wants the pleasure of staring at the plumbers crack while he cleans it lol
George first of all its bold of you to assume i want that second of all i’m good off ANY male attention
Chris Barnett like i would truly want to see a 40yr old hairy ass
How about samsug water wall issue:
Not draining during the cycles, drainin water after 3secund pressing start (drain)
Dishwasher is brand new. No fauld code on Lcd.

in this dishwasher there is no place to put salt?
Great vid worked for me. THANKS
My washer connects to the faucet and the hose is black. I cannot see how to remove it. How do you check for clogs in this case?
Thanks
What if I don't have a garbage disposable what do I do
It still connects to your drain so you can check the connection for debris that might be clogging it.
“disposal”
Thank you, this worked!
I watched your video which is the second one. One of them show testing and running, why?
Thanks super helpful
Does a samsung dishwasher have tge same parts ???
After following your instructions, my dishwasher still won't drain, whether it has the other reason.
my problems started after I began making sourdough bread at home. If I don't completely wipe off the utencils and bowls before washing them it coats the pipes with sticky nastyness.
I can't get the screen piece under the filter back in the dishwasher! ugh! please let me know how to fit back in. thanks!
nvm! got it!
Than you! What a savings!
super job helped allot
very helpful
U ARE THE BEST
at 1:49 he talks about the clips, but does not show how to remove. Anyone know how to remove the clips without breaking them?
excellent
Great video, but to much work for me, I'm looking for the one where I can just snap my fingers. Lol
