  • This is my own original composition based on the most famous Gershwin song "I've Got Rythym". Published in 1930, this song has become the most iconic song written by George Gershwin and lyrics by Ira Gershwin.
My rhapsody has a number of different parts to it. With an introducition, the song played as originally written, and 4 variations. The first part is the introduction to the song in G minor, the natural minor to the major key that the song is written in, B-flat Major. I then play a traditional version of the song itself. My first variation is a more upbeat verson of the song, with more rythmic action added to it. The second variation is more of a jazz improve, using multiple linear phrases and changing the melody to triplets. The fourth variation played in a swing, stride style. The fifth variation is a much slowed down version that takes advantage particularly of the lower keys in the piano. This is the real "Rhapsody" part of my composition. I even transition the song from b-flat to b-flat minor, before finishing the variation with a cadenza leading the final variation. The final variation is a presto performance for the melody with different improvisations.
    I hope you like it!
