Sprint technique and mechanics are the fundamental gatekeepers of performance. You may be capable of producing all the force in the world, but if that force is not applied optimally at the right time and in the right direction, that force output capability is essentially wasted.
This should be no surprise, as many of the great coaches of our time have consistently spoken time and time again on the necessity of optimal mechanics, and research has even been done to show that how you apply force is far more important than how much force you're capable of producing.
    What this video will cover:
-What are the various phases of a sprint stride cycle.
-What are the primary focal points of optimal technique.
-Tips for spotting problems in technique, and ideas on how to fix them.
Whether you want to run a faster 100m dash, run a faster 40 yard dash, or simply enhance your speed for your team sport, this video and the attached article on ATHELTE.X by Cody Bidlow will give you the tools needed to improve your sprinting and run faster.

A quick comment on excessive knee flexion during the stance phase:
Typically, excessive movement occurs at a joint because some *other* joint is too weak, rather than the joint that is excessively moving. For example, if someone rounds their back when squatting, it is not because their back is weak, but because it is strong (relative to their legs). I.e., the body allows the back to round because the back is strong enough to handle it, and rounding the back can allow the legs to get through the sticking point with slightly less force.
Something similar is likely going to happen with knee flexion during the stance phase - If the body is flexing the knee “too much”, it is likely that this is happening because some other part of the body (namely, the foot/ankle/achilles/calf) is not strong enough to absorb those same ground contact forces. So if you see this, the first thing I would look at is ankle & foot strength, rather than knee/quad strength.

Glad you broke down a lot of things wrong with social media and training. Too many coaches trying to deliver sprint coaching with breakdowns on a molecular level. Always good to see your videos and their lack of bs

Great video. I've been trying to figure out what my ideal stride length should be at max-speed phase but I think this suggest it'll occur naturally

Another great video…! Really like the thought to scissor the legs. I have always/often had the thought to push as hard as I can and then move from leg to leg. Great visual thought to scissor with one leg forward while one is going back. Thank you!

Watche the whole thing. I felt glad i did when you mentioned the difference between being a true effective coach, that talks only when he has matured his thoughts, and the lame coach, that goes on and on talking about stuff without direction or true sense (Which you can recognize in many professions). I hope you could guide us towards classical work regarding sprinting top speed increase. By that i mean specific excercises and that. Good luck! Very good work!

Needed this, I’m the butt kicking over pushing type of person and I knew that was a big flaw to my running. On my channel you can see this immensely in the last 100 the 400

Love the video and understand how it applies for sprinting. For middle distance, 800m-5k, do the same principles apply when talking about over pushing and heel to butt kicking? I am assuming so, but didn't know it would effect running efficiency. How would you adjust the technique for middle distance? Topic may deserve it's own video.

Good video man, thanks. I was wondering, from what you said about keeping the shin on ground contact perpendicular to the ground, and in midstance having a slight knee bend as well, is there ever a time when the leg/knee needs to be in full extension? I was watching another analysis video by Steve Magness and he alluded to the fact that you may not need to have triple extension in the cycle but he didn't expand on it. I believe he said that it is "sort of a myth". Do you have any thoughts on that, and if there is/isn't extension how does the vertical force get produced, and where would it be in the technical model? Thanks in advance, appreciate the content!

Around 17:00 you talk about contact time and flight time, you said if the athlete spend too much time in the air then hes pushing vertically, but its not that the point? Like hitting the ground harder and pushing vertically when you sprinting at top speed?
