- Dr. Monkarsh is a Clinical Child Psychologist, who has specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals on the autism spectrum since 1980. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and completed his pre- and post-doctoral clinical training at the University Affiliated Program at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
Dr. Monkarsh trains family members in ways to facilitate socially adaptive behavior and self-regulation. He believes that in order to nurture the growth of an individual, others must understand the unique developmental process that characterizes a pervasive developmental disorder. This presentation explains the complexities of family interactions, the stresses they experience and how to best cope with them.
pretty rare to get so much actionable information in such a succinct presentation. You're a badass dr Monkarash.
Finally a word for this. I've had this for a long time and it's getting worse and worse. However, it's a very odd fixation. I often expirience repeated phrases and mental images of internal dialog telling me to hurt or off myself, and images of me doing that to myself. This happens even if I am having a fun and exciting day. It is fluffed in between my normal thoughts and disrupts my flow of thinking.
I just wish it was something a little less gory. I feel like an insane person.
Best part: wide range of pleasurable activities. I'm 51 with severe perseverating and think it has a lot to do with being bored.

You sound like someone I could have a lot of fun with! 😉
Thanks for sharing this video. You did a great job of explaining perseveration and I could hear more of it. It looks differently in an adult than a child, but strategies for understanding it and re-directing it are always helpful.
You are perseverating about perseveration.
😂😂
no he wasn’t, he comprehensively addressed the topic and then went on with his life most likely
Diminishing returns. Exactly correct.
I have HFA and the worst part of my childhood was when I was told I needed to take breaks from my obsessions/special intrests.
Yeah
I finally have a word to describe my extreme attachment to random actions
I had a relative with dementia who would complain about the same thing for hours on end.
I know. But no one tries that crap with me anymore since I'm an adult.
perseveration is a persistent repetition of words beyond their relevance ..occurs in dementia and schizophrenia

I'm a recently assessed PDD-NOS, Atypical Asperger; 1] I have expressive face, 2] I can look people in the eye & 3] I do STOP talking.
Yeah and if that's not working? I mean, i have my characters and shift ragularly to them.. but as soon as i also forget my own intentions.. it's minimum a 3-6h fight regardless or hunger or other urges.
what about emotions & behaviour 🙄
