  • So I headed out to Norfolk to photograph the grey seals and harbour seals, as at this time of the year the grey seals come up onto the shore to give birth.
Over the coming weeks the pups will start to appear in their hundreds, as more and more seals make their way onto the Norfolk coast.
The best time to visit here would be around the first week in December when there are likely to be up to 1000 grey seal pups along the coast.
In the video I think I mistakenly identify some of the pubs as harbour seal pups however harbour seals are born in June and July so they will not have the white coat as the grey seals do, when the grey seals are born they have this white coat that is not waterproof which is why they will remain on the shore for around three weeks whilst the white fluffy coat sheds and they suckle from their mother and grow.
A fantastic couple of days spent down On the Norfolk coast photographing these wonderful seals.

Such a heart-warming video, Ashley. Beautiful footage and stills of moments with seals we may never have seen but for you sharing with us. Lovely to meet your wife, Jacqueline, too. I became so shy listening to you toward the end, I hardly knew what to say. We all love the way you film and talk, it always sounds personal and special.

Glad you enjoyed this episode Joan, clearly it will not do as well as other videos, as a lot of people subscribe for the birds, but being a wildlife photographer I have to try to cover everything. Where my next venture takes me I do not know, I need to give it some thought, as the days are shorter and its damp, cold and miserable here at the moment. 👍

Bird in Flight photography is one of the hardest techniques to master, and you excel at it, Ashley. It's quite thrilling for us birders to watch this aspect of your videos. It's just a thought, but seeing it's 'damp, cold and miserable at the moment', I don't suppose the birds will like it any more than you :) About to watch your latest again with family :) :)

Really enjoy your videos, every year I go to RAF Donna Nook in Lincolnshire, early December there are over 3000 Seals, they are so close you can photograph them with your phone, well worth a visit. Keep the videos coming.

All seals give birth on land or on ice, never in The water.
    Lovley video 👌

Nice video 👍🏻 are you able to get on the beach anywhere? Also did you come across any pups in the dunes? 😊

Hi, you can, but not at Horsey Gap, you would need to walk a mile or two in either direction, i can not stress enough that if you do, keep your distance, do not go down on to the beach if there is a crowd of seals, they will go off into the sea, keep at least 25/30 meters distance if mother is with pup and keep to the dunes as much as possible. No pups in the dunes if so I would have told the rangers and they would have come to rescue it, as they tend to be left in there by the mother.👍
