Did a Short Eared Owl ruin my day?

- Well today I headed off to a local reserve not far from me, as the weather forecast was favorable for blue skies and light winds a rarity from the past few weeks of wet and miserable weather.
My intention was just to head down and photograph the common birds the water birds etc enjoying a nice day out with my camera photographing the wildlife and just seeing how the reserve has changed since it has been flooded several times this winter.
The day started off photographing the barn owl, before moving on to the Reed beds to photograph the Reed buntings and any other wildlife that may be down there.
As the morning went on I made my way around the waterways photographing the ducks and geese, before heading off towards the woodpecker trees, as I made my way round I was surprised to find a 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘄𝗹, which took me by surprise I instantly got low to the ground and set my camera up ready to photograph owl as it was flying around looking for a tasty vole.
All in all a fantastic day at this location with plenty of excellent photos and video to share with you all.

An absolutely stunning set of SEO images Ashley. I think the images always look great when the grass is included in the image as it demonstrates to the viewer the owl was flying low. Would you believe I was at that location only yesterday doing a recce, I had never been before. I observe and photograph SEO and Barn Owls myself and there have been a pair of SEOs visiting a location near my home in Lancaster for at least the last 5 years and they have turned up again this year so if I get any images as good as yours, I’ll be over the moon. Cheers Lee, thanks for the comment, yeh i doubt they will be there much longer as it starts to get milder, as for exposure, i do everything manually very rarely do i look at the meter reading if anything the histogram is what i look at. 👍

Great vid & stills Ashley always enjoy watching !! Just a quick question do you ever need to use the R7 with the 100-500, And do you ever use the converter taking you to F10 with the R5.
Hi Colin, I sometimes use the R7 but mainly for smaller birds on the river, I do have the converter but I found that the images are a little soft, it's a bit more forgiving for video though.

Hi Andy I use Davinci resolve to create my videos and it has the option to remove background noise from your mic. 👍
