    One of the greatest races I have seen in a long time and rowdy was losing it after the 1st 100.

      1:36 is faster than a lot of good swimmer's best 200 Free. It doesn't make any sense

      Makes you wonder what he could do in a 100 (50 fly, 50 back) without the last 100 of the 200 IM remaining. Maybe not that much faster since it seems his strategy was to go 100% from the start and try to hold on?

    If back used to be a "weakness" for Marchand, this race and the 400 IM showed that it no longer is. While breast is his best stroke -- and his 27.66 split was 0.88 seconds faster than the next fastest (28.54) -- his back split of 22.98 was 1.28 seconds faster than the next fastest (24.26). Granted, he spends 60% under water, but still...

      @NRClips3414 2 years ago +2

      Wow, I never noticed that. I guess that's why he really started to pull away right after the first 50.

    • @EricAngle
      @EricAngle 2 years ago +2

      @NRClips3414 It didn't stand out to me either when I watched it live (other than the obvious that he was way ahead of everyone at the 100), but since then I've rewatched it at least 10 times, and its the back leg that really stands out. Just look at his turnover compared to everyone else. It looks like he's sprinting a 50 back.

    • @Ryan-wf6ib
      @Ryan-wf6ib Year ago +1

      Doesn’t anyone in swimming find it ridiculous that he spends 65-70% underwater? It’s not even a stroke, how could that possibly be allowed.

    a thing quite funny for a french fan like me : at the end of his interview he said to his family : "merci, beucoup" (lol) (instead of "beaucoup") with the american accent! He speaks really well in english and certainly he begins to be immersed in the language (not only in the pool).

      He won't beat ZSC in 200 breast.

    • @terrificleon
      @terrificleon 2 years ago +1

      @ashenmanjula667 Marchand's record set in July 2022 just after the world championships, i.e. tired, is 2'08"76.
      At that time he swam 1'48.20 in 200y. breaststroke (in 2022). Two weeks ago, he swam 1'47.67 which is 53 hundredths faster (waiting to see what he will do in 2 days, probably better considering his current form and his time yesterday in 50y breaststroke). He has just gained more than a second in the 200y im: which would give on 200m breaststroke something like 2'7.50 but probably much better.
      The 2'6 is not so far... and as I think I understood that he really wants to swim the 200 breaststroke in Fukuoka (he would have liked to do it in Budapest too, instead of the 200 fly), I would see him, considering his current incredible progress, under 2'6. That means the world record of Stubblety-Cook, and who knows, maybe the world title...

    • @ashenmanjula667
      @ashenmanjula667 2 years ago +1

      @terrificleon Not really. When it comes to breaststroke , SCY and LCM are totally different with those underwaters and pullouts. So, a 3 second drop in SCY may not result in same kind of drop in LCM. May be a 1.5 to 2 secs drop is possible which only gets him down to 2.06 high or 2.07 low which won't be enough to dethrone ZSC at world stage.

    • @ashenmanjula667
      @ashenmanjula667 2 years ago +4

      @terrificleon No hard feelings about Marchand, i believe he is the best swimmer in the world right now.
      But unfortunately for him, in his specialist stroke events, he is coming up against two of the greatest swimmers at their respective events Milak and ZSC which may cost him potential Golds.
      And ofc, France don't have that quality depth in their relays, so potential relay medals are also hard to come by.
      If he is an American, i believe that he can definitely go for like 8 or 9 medals at World Championships.
