Couple of tiny tips from an ex Taco Bell employee/mildly inspiring cook. 1. Rinse your onions before cutting them. This should eliminate the fumes. 2. When putting the ingredients on the tortilla, do so on the furthest 2/3 of the tortilla rather than directly in the middle. This allows you to drag the ingredients into the middle, resulting in a better mix and, ultimately, a better ratio of each ingredient per bite.

Pro-tip - this recipe is on point however, you can use bacon fat and skip the lard and smoke paprika, use sweet paprika instead. Also, burritos come raw or partially cooked. Always warm them up because they need to be cooked! BB's off the Taco Bell 99 cent menu were always my favorite. Pico sauce, which is basically cilantro, tomatoes and onions kicks it up a notch but isn't mandatory. I've taken it another step further and made refried beans. Pinto beans cooked in chicken broth, then refired in bacon fat with a little garlic and chili powder are really good, but canned works as well. Love this video anyways because bean burritos are an excellent comfort food.
Remember eating Taco Bell bean burritos when I was a kid in the 80s the bean burritos used to be so much better than they are now. I believe back then they were only like 59 cents also.
Yep, right around $0.59. They had the 59, 79, 99 menu back in the early 90's. I worked at a Taco Bell location in Nashville when I was 16 in the early 90's. I was told we were one of the last TB's to make their refried beans from scratch. I remember making them at least once before we switched to the stuff in a bag.

Yep, We are aging ourselves here. I worked at one of the last Taco Bells in Nashville TN to make their refried beans from scratch. I remember making the bean from scratch a couple times before we switched to the stuff in the bag that is warmed up. As they say "Those were the days!"
Rosarita refried beans taste nasty when just heated up out of the can. Does adding the spices and water alter the horrible taste of Rosarita for the better.
Taco Bell's gotten too expensive, and they don't give you too much. We're pissed about their offerings, used to be so good. Now, we can't hardly eat (each of us) for less than 10 bucks each. And, we don't get that much, but to eat around $6 bucks, you have to get only 2 or 3 things, and you have to bring a drink from home. It's just too much, and we want to learn how to do it all at home.
Agreed, I was thinking the other day about the .59, .79, .99 price menu back in the 1990's. With inflation they should've just doubled in price. They're triple the price now.
@@humphreyskitchenofficial Funny, I came back to your video on 6-13-2024, and even more glad that you showed us this. Because we went yesterday to Taco Bell, and it was almost $27.xx ... Believe that? But, they made a mistake and overcharged me $7 bucks. So, I cancelled the item that they got wrong (i.e., Nacho Supreme), and it freaked me out to hear that. I couldn't believe almost $30 bucks. So, even at $20 bucks, it's still too much and no left-overs. So, we are gonna re-double our efforts to cut down our trip. And, even after telling everything correctly (because I record oh my phone when I am ordering at places), the bean burrito was messed up, so we've got to go back & let them replace it.

Now Taco Bell gives you a huge flour tortilla with 1 scoop of runny beans
Yep, We are aging ourselves here. I worked at one of the last Taco Bells in Nashville TN to make their refried beans from scratch. I remember making the bean from scratch a couple times before we switched to the stuff in the bag that is warmed up. As they say "Those were the days!"
Rosarita refried beans taste nasty when just heated up out of the can. Does adding the spices and water alter the horrible taste of Rosarita for the better.
Try cream cheese instead of lard once.
Never tried it but I just might. Thx for the suggestion.
@@humphreyskitchenofficial @H, yeah, I am coming back to this video on 12-20-2024. Funny that I see your comments again. Makes me feel good that I'm not only one.
Off I go to soak some beans
uh... don't need to add the extra lard to canned beans. and certainly don't need to add salt to canned beans
If you pooped in a tortilla, it would be better than Toxic Hell. That's like stepping up on a curb and telling everyone you did the 100-meter hurdles in under 12 seconds.
When making refried beans the flavor comes from the brown crust that forms on bottom of pan. 😵
Amongst other things like seasoning, fat, & time cooking.
Oh that's what taco bell uses to make there 😊
Oh yes!
I LOVE BEAN BURRITOES!!!!! :)
We do too. Thanks for watching!
Just think of the Bank you could make if you openened up a food truck and made classic Taco Bell items from the past just change the name a little bit I’m sure they are copyrighted
Go for it! Folks love bean burritos.
I ate 5 of them to get filled up
sour cream with mine mmm
That's another great way to have them. Awesome!
And avocado or guacamole
Taco Bell Red Sause instead of water. Or some chunky Salsa. Make a Big Difference in the Flavor!!
Works well. I've done this before.
I like to put lettuce in mine.
Do it to it. Just depends on the mood and whatcha got on hand. I love to try something different now and then. Thx for the recommendation.
