In this episode I create some really cool modular, Egyptian themed, desert terrain. Can work well for TTRPGs like Dungeons & Dragons or Wargaming like Age of Sigmar. Could be used with battle mat or dungeon tiles.

They are stupidly talented. It was an auto support for me.
Now I need a 3d printer. Been wanting one so bad.... I'm wait until they're more user friendly, I'm not a tech head and all the ones I've seen are way to complicated on the tech end. I have a brother scan-n-cut, all it does is cut paper/vinyl/fabric, and that thing took me forever to get right. If I cant fix it with a hammer it's too techy for me LOL how often do you actually use the one you have? I wouldn't mind getting a glowforge tho, but I'd have to take out a loan for one of those 😆.
Hey man, I am someone with horrible tremors who wants to get into the hobby (I have SO many AdMech still on sprue). It is very encouraging to see someone as successful as you fighting them and kicking ass. I mean, damn just look at THOSE COLUMNS!!!
Where's that one guy to complain that everything is beige this time? Since he was so offended by your brown paint job on the torment build.
@@pappajudas9267 LOL there's always that one. Personally, I loved the job he did on that project and the pooh paint fit the project but there's no pleasing everyone, no matter how well you do a job there will ALWAYS be someone to nit pick or claim to do better.
Those minis are begging to step out of the wall to become an encounter!
Absolutely had the same thought.
I felt like that too
Yeah, I'm wondering whether you could magnetise the minis, so that they pop out and become functional living statues!
I agree! Keep the minis on their bases and incorporate the base into the bass relief design. Magnetize them or use some sort of temporary adhesive to keep them in place. Then pop those badasses out to attack player characters!
@@alexbarrett3832 Yeah, it'd be so simple to put in a magnet, or even just cut a slot deep enough to hold their base. Maybe put them on square bases, and make them look like they're standing on a shelf attached to the stonework. Use a couple of mini's and bases to have some "blank" spots on the walls too.
"Man, what a pain in the ass carving the wall around those minis!"
"...................."
"OHHHHHHH!"
Right? I saw those minis in there in the intro and was like, dang... then I saw how he did and and I was like... DAAAANG
The only thing missing is a tiny Brendan Fraser running around there, very nice work!
This is the temple on "the wrong side of the river" with Benny.
Sword and Sandal settings get nowhere near the love they need. I'd love to see you do more awesome Egyptian/Sumerian/Levantine/etc terrains! Great job.
My Call of Cthulhu players are going back in time, and they're probably going to be stuck there for a while, so I intend to cover the Sword and Sandal thoroughly! Because you're right--it's awesome, but many people just think "European fantasy."
Damn there is so much cleverness in here, and the end result is great. Obv. love the heat gun shenanigans! :-)
I'd love to see footage of Jeremy's face when the guy just sank down into the foam, melting its way to the other side.
My own experience with hot minis was when I tried to weld (not solder!) two pieces together. I didn't know what I was doing and didn't realize the heat was being distributed through the model until the entire thing just straight melted into a lump. ;D
Oooh you cussed, I'm tellin
These are great! Fantastic colour
color*
@@spoonerismstuff I apologise
*colour
@@spoonerismstuff Not always...British/Australian/NZ English = colour. US English = color. Just one of many differences between the two. English spellings were codified after the Revolution/War of Independence, hence the differences. As Churchill once said: "Two peoples separated by a common language." (and he was half American.)
Heating up those hot metal boys for the perfect hole that was made for them is genius, I love it!
😂😂
Love your work, btw!!
This is awesome. One of my scrapped projects was trying to make architectural sculpture 40k walls by pressing broken push-fit models into green stuff. It... didn't work very well. Maybe I'll try again!
This was epic af
This would work with some Call of Cthulu adventures too!
The figures in the wall look like they're ready to awaken from their curse and pound the stuffing out of foolish tomb looters.
100% guarantee anyone who plays with this set is going to ask the DM at every opportunity about the statues in the wall.
Very "cyclopean architecture" as Ol Howard would say
The spray damage and the final color really looks like 'Bone' chunks! Imagine some grotesque fleshy place or perhaps a village built into the bones of an old giant...
That’s an idea worth trying to remember!
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial six month memory booster while I'm binging videos, then!
Probably one of the best builds you've ever done imo.
Agreed! I thought they were 3D prints as first glance. Very nicely done
Amazing project!
The texture applied via the spray-can propellant looks superb.
Finally, some terrain that's not typical "European/Medieval" fantasy.
I love that you spent the beginning of the video showing what didn't work, before moving on to what did work (and worked really well imo). Highlighting the entire creative process is much more rewarding than just providing a authoritative laundry list of steps; it's a creative hobby and part of that means trial-and-error.
I really appreciate that you show your failures. It helps make me not feel as badly when something I make doesn't turn out. And also a huge thank you once again for granting me permission to eyeball things and not be perfect. I never would have gotten into this without that because I would have gotten overwhelmed by making things with interiors or perfect 1" squares or whatever.
If I could spare any money for your Patreon, I absolutely would. Unfortunately a like and a comment to help the algorithms is the best I can do.
"The first full day was scrapped"
No it wasn't. You were prototyping. You tried something out before fully committing and decided it didn't work.
Love the use of the Wargods of Aegyptus models!
using the metal miniatures to melt fitting cavities into the foam is a stroke of genius. With the paint it really looks as if they were carved out of the stones.
I love how the pewter minis melted the styrofoam, I kept guessing the method until the heat gun came up. I think most of mine are painted up, maybe I'll grab some pewter minis and try this out.
LOL, Kismet, I pulled out pillar templates from Shifting Lands this weekend too. And yeah, I had to get used to them as well. Once 'adjusted' to using them. They worked really well.
Its beautiful! I love the relief sculptures
THATS the word I couldn’t think of!
PERFECT TIMING! Thank you.
I did this kind of terrain already for my history project in school
I had a lot of fun not only making the terrain but also a one shot campaign that went with it ( I got a 100 on the project )
Glad to see you back in action Jeremy. These look fantastic man
The embedded metal minis in the walls remind me of that part in The Mummy where the carvings popped out and started attacking. _NICE!_
Those look awesome. Ancient Egypt is endlessly fascinating, and desert storms still reveal sites thought lost to history. The great thing about Egyptian ruins, is that they DID build secret chambers, and they DID put unpleasant traps in their tombs, like 'bottomless' pits - the early Egyptologist Belzoni found one in an excavated tomb, early in his career, his strength and agility (he had been a circus strong man) saving him from an unpleasant death. Ancient Egypt has to be the most flexible RPG scenario of all.
Then, of course, you have the short story that H.P. Lovecraft wrote for Harry Houdini: 'Imprisoned With The Pharaohs'. Definitely full of ideas, that one.
Those metal mini "carvings" are an amazing idea!
that's so cool, man! I'm not a d&d player, but I love dioramas and nook books, so maybe I'll give it a try to these new tricks! thanks dor sharing your awesome art!!!
Sweet sandstone! Where do you usually get your large XPS blocks btw?
Friend in Germany 🙂 never found that thick locally.
Those pillar jigs are simply genius!
A tiny Imhotep would be awesome to see! That spray melting foam technique is genius!
Simply amazing !!! The partial melting of the foam due to PRIMER spray give the ageing effect of the real stones (small dots of erosion). The colors are matching perfectly sand.
As always BRAVO.
Using minis for statues or carved out figures in terrain is a really neat idea! Great video, always nice to see the thought process too.
It's sure looks amazing. I've been meaning to make a Egypt ruins terrain for years
Those are so badass and the metal minis as carvings was a stroke of genius!
These turned out fantastic! I love all the techniques that you used :)
These look amazing. One of your best crafts so far
Back to basics AND something new - that's a win-win in my book.
OMG those foam pillars using the jig looks ridiculously amazing!
This whole set is scorching hot!
Well there's something I didn't know I needed in my life. It's not a setting I've considered recently. It was so over used in media at a stage that I think I felt it was tacky to use for my TTRPGs but it may be time to reconsider.
BTW I was listening to Distorted Memory for the first time in ages yesterday and it transported me back to a simpler time of pleather skirts and studded collars before I discovered what a drag adulting would be, was a very welcome escape.
Thank you for all the different types of content that you have created over the years.
Different mini's and a different paint job and they WOULD be perfect deep jungle scatter as well. Awesome work as always!
Amonkhet, here we come!!! That terrain is magnificent! And the presentation especially the highlight closeups in beginning!
Back to a classic BMC video where we simply build some terrain, great video !
Love the painting process with this build and the final oil wash looked great! I recently got a set of pillar jigs from Gerard too, I’m gonna drill little pilot holes in each end of the jigs and put push pins in there to keep the foam more secure. The column jigs are gonna be a ton of fun to work with in future builds, can’t wait to see what you come up with too!
Wow! I am blown away by how simple these were to make!
You could use tiles with these for sandy beach as well and add in a few scatter terrain pieces with some palm trees! Very nicely done sir!
Man that paint job works great! So simple. Great terrain!
This is super fun, man. Love the idea!
What a sweet set of terrain--and miniatures, for that matter. Managed to find the seller and picked up a couple models for painting! Talk about a good start to my week.
using spare minis is a genius idea!
This is also a nice way to spice up your typical dungeon crawl with a Desert tomb of a Necromancer!
Thanks my dude for the great content!
I really like the creativity in these. They're fun and look pretty straightforward.
The texture is on point! And yes this video was very much enjoyed.
It feels that this family time get's you Back to your desk with a lot of creativity. Man i already thought you will never end up with brown stumpy swamps. Thanks for this new theme. It's nice to have you back!
This is awesome! Those minis look like they're about to pop out of the walls and attack the party! In fact, that's not a bad idea.
Sink the minis into the wall with heat, and melting the foam with spraypaint were great ideas!
I recall a weekend of playing with minis (War-game and RPG), where we dumped a 50 # bag of sand on a garage floor and used that as a basis for a 'desert' section. Worked well, and the sand was used to keep the ice on the driveway in check the next winter.
I asked for Sand/Dessert/Egypt after the snow and you delivered! Thank you so much! So thrilled! Will start on my own set soon!
That double prime worked wonders for the texture it looks very realistic. Awesome craft Man!
Both your foam-melting technique and your oil wash worked amazingly well. I'm going to give them a try. Thank you for another great video!
I paused my campaign for six months waiting for this video. Thanks @BlackMagicCraft!!!
Was hoping the wall statues would come off, so you could use them for an encounter. Cool stuff as always!
Just have extra minis for that
Could try attaching them with magnets, but that depends on the metal. you would have to paint the models separately
The colors and the surface structure looks so satisfying👍🏻
Setting the minis in to the walls was a really great idea!
These pillar jigs are clever wee gadgets, such a simple idea too.👍👌😁 Using heat was a great idea too, looks really effective.
Always loved the Egyptian themed games. (Anyone else remember Wargods of Aegyptus? Painted a few of those back in the early 2000s.)
Very nice. =)
That would be amazing to have a campaign built and themed like this!
Egyptian stuff is my FAVORITE.
Man these bring me back to 6th grade history projects! Love Egypt and it's thematic content. I had actually thought the mini's you sunk in the walls were going to jump out in the intro video as living sculptures so maybe a mod to add would be a magnet or securing pin thing and keep them all playable. Keep it rocking my friend and be well.
These are cool! Big and chunky! With just enough detail to make things interesting… print a second copy of the characters if they come to life and jump off the walls! Great work!
Those pillars amazingly impressive
Those models being like carvings in the wall are really cool, almost like they could come to life and step out from their wall. If you didn't want that sort of look, i suppose you could have filled in the gaps to make it look like the carvings are a part of the bricks
Definitely one of the best BMC builds so far! Can't get enough of the Egyptian stuff.
Красота же! Ширина стен мне особенно нравится
Such a cool idea to put the minis in the wall, definitely going to try it!!
Props to archvillain, those beetle warriors look amazing
Holy crickets, Jeremy!! This is totally bad ass!! Love this terrain!!
Probably your best craft so far.
Ahhhh you hit me in the heart and mind. Desert environment is my favorite because it's so beautiful the neutral color pallet of it. And you did a great job. This seriously inspired me!
A temple in that style would be very interesting to see! I love how the walls and pillars look!
Awesome project. Amazingly creative use of the Crocodile Games minis embedded in the walls, they look fantastic!
WOW! Would make some awesome Necron/Stargate style terrain!
Amazingly cool setup. I have some old pewter sets that have been collecting dust, and while not Egyptian in nature this is a great idea to embed them into chunky walls. Nice work!
Fantastic! Looks like an old school clash-of-the-titans movieset!
yes def make some flooring, those are worth it to create an awesome scene. Very convincing stone.
Unsolicited incredibly involved and complex follow-up project recommendation: Giant multi-layered pyramid dungeon! Or maybe a Valley of the Kings style modular dungeon set!
This is gonna be perfect for my desert warhammer table
THIS LOOKS SO STINKING COOL!!!!!!
These terrain pieces turned out so good! I love how chunky they are and the texture is great! Also genius techniques, melting in the minis and even that pillar jig.. didn't know these existed, but I love that they do.
I don't think anyone's piped in yet so I'll say that most of the figures embedded into the walls/used as statues are WarGods of Aegyptus figures from Crocodile Games. Great build!
Needed a mini with missing bits, or lines cut through them to match the wall stone.
Love that pillar shaping jig.
I was hoping to see the miniatures in the wall to be able to pop out and be an enemy that players have to fight, a living stone statue.
You could do that if you wish. Personally I’d just have extra statue minis on bases.
Such a simple paint job but so effective
So much awesome in this video - I still love the fact that you show what doesn't work and then how you adapted. (and bonus hidden tip for us Cdn types, that CanTire spray primer doesn't melt foam)
I like your original attempt and may try replicating it myself for my own terrain. With that said your final product is awesome.
Eerie, just yesterday i was talking again about how i wanted to do a desert themed tileset for a campaign i've been planning for a while, but that i was struggling with ideas.
This is totally a godsend ❤❤❤❤!
Beautiful this should be a diagram in the Smithsonian or Lourve museums with such quality.
I really like the chunkier scale terrain on this one and the weathered damage, fantastic set. I look forward to your expansion on this desert themed terrain.
Awesome build! Best Egyptian dungeon terrain I have ever seen!👍👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
