    I do this for a living and what I do for textured tile is this. I apply the same way you do, but do not let it sit for more than 1 hour. I personally like about 20 to 30 minutes max, so small bath you can do all at once then clean but if a large area, do in sections. For cleaning the stain, I use a sponge, micro fiber cloth and a sanded sponge (80 grit works well but if glass tile do not use sanded)
    Step 1: paint on stain
    Step 2: use damp sponge to lightly cover small area
    Step 3: in a diagonal direction of grout line, lightly scrub tile with sanded sponge
    Step 4: use clean sponge and clean up
    Step 5: buff area with microfiber cloth
    Hope this helps!

    I clean my tile grout at least twice a year. My last try I used simple green and let it sit a few minutes. I then scrubbed it wit black and orange grout brush with a long handle. I cleaned it without getting on my hands and knees. I do change the rinse water about every 10 sq feet of cleaning. I’m going to recolor my grout and you’ve really inspired me. Thank you for the awesome instructional video.

    Rent a shampooer or extractor or wet dry vac. if you are not able to get on the floor like this. Video is perfect. I bought my grout paint from home depot 7 years ago it inhibits mold and mildew. it lasted until i installed new tile and grout. and it seals at the same time. btw a wet dry vac with wide attachment will work...obviously I am not able to get on floor lol but those with back problems can still achieve this. as for painting i just sit on my bum and scoot around. Will power. You did a beautiful job , im just trying to encourage someone who has mobility issues.

    Pro tip: DO NOT let toilet bowl cleaner sit on the grout for more than 2 minutes. If you don't rinse/neutralize it properly, the acid will keep eating away at the calcium that's in the grout. Color sealer (paint) is a sealer, spraying other sealers on top of it will only create sealer residue, don't do it.

      @@jacquelinemcmillan2793 White would look nice! Can you tell what the original (clean) grout color was meant to be? There are plenty of colors to pick from and there's really no right answer, just personal preference. The one thing I would suggest keeping in the same family of warm vs cool. Ie, if the tiles are cream colored at all, look for a warmer white.

      It's great so far! There are a couple of really tiny spots that have chipped because I didn't clean underneath well enough before I applied the paint, but I have the bottle handy to fix those whenever I need, which is nice. Otherwise, its virtually the same as the day I did it! One thing though is that you have to clean it like a painted surface as opposed to sanded grout. I normally just mop as usual and then wipe any stuck-on stain or food bits up by hand with a cloth. I don't think scrubbing with a brush would do any favors to the paint, though I haven't tried. I suppose I could always touch up with the paint if something did happen though. Overall, I have no regrets!

    Your video is really good, and I think I'm going to try this. I do have a question, however. Does painting and sealing your grout completely negate the need to clean it periodically with grout cleaner? Or is this a misnomer? My thought is that if the sealant is applied properly, it makes the grout surface nonporous, and thus, dirt resistant. So all you have to do is mop the floor. Right or wrong?

    • @KatharticStudios
      @KatharticStudios  Год назад +4

      You're right - the texture changes so that you can clean it like a regular part of the floor. The grout is no longer sandy and porous so it doesn't absorb stains the same way, which is good, but dirt can still collect or get stuck in the "groove" of your grout lines. I normally sweep/mop my floor as regular and then if something is stuck in the grout I'll wipe that area by hand with a regular cleaner (not grout cleaner). You can't scrub as aggressively as you could before or else you'll pull the paint off, but you're right that it's nonporous and so dirt wipes off. If anything happens during cleanup, you can also touchup the paint at any time!

      2 years later and it has held up fine around my kitchen sink! I think it would be okay on a bathroom floor around the sink and toilet, but I wouldn't use it directly inside a shower or tub. It's similar to wall paint - durable to splashes but not made for being repetitively submerged. In any case, it's a cheap and relatively easy option to try vs regrouting or installing entirely new floors. And you can keep your paint bottle on hand in case of any future touch ups. Worth a try!

      It looks great! I definitely recommend it for really old, stained grout like mine. I'd never have been able to get a light and bright color without paint unless I ripped it all up and regrouted. The paint has stuck very well. The main con is that you have to be more gentle cleaning it and can't scrub hard like regular grout or else you risk peeling or chipping the paint. But I still have the rest of the paint bottle sitting in my closet, so touch ups are easy. I also think the aerosol sealer isn't really necessary.

    STOP MOPPING YOUR TILE FLOORS ! PERIOD ! Keep it vacuumed and leave it alone ! Also spot clean with a large grout sponge well broken in and only damp not dripping wet . Immediately dry the cleaned area with a terry bath towel. You don't need any chemicals ! Just cold water . Using grout stain ( paint ) is ok. You could have used paper towels as you painted and wiped off across the tile , just leaving it in the grout. 30 years experience talking. You don't need to seal paint ! It is already sealed. It's paint ! Use a microfiber 12 inch swivel mop with Bona hard surface floor cleaner sprayed on the mop, not the floor. It will remove any surface soil that you can see in light reflection. Just vacuum once in a while . The less you do, the better tile floors will look ! NEVER MOP AGAIN !

    • @raymondsiewert2720
      @raymondsiewert2720 Год назад +2

      @@EyezLikaFox̌ , l do not know what type of tile you have or what glaze was fired on. But most Ceramic or Porcelain floor tiles are virtually chemical resistant, including acids. If you have mopped your floor over a long period of time, it has built up a sheen ( glossy look ) then those more dull or un-glossy spots are just where an acidic type of cleaner spilt or splashed. As far as a coating to make it look the same , l really couldn't tell you. Coatings , sealers , clear acrylic floor finishes could work but would you would have to test a small spot, and determine if it would be matt, satin, semi gloss etc.

      I understand why a person would wonder if pouring mop water down the kitchen drain is alright. We take special care of our food preparation areas and are careful about cleaning the sink. Bottom line, the sink is nonporous. It does not absorb germs and gross stuff. Just give your sink a thorough cleaning/ disinfecting after pouring dirty water down the drain. I sure miss the utility sink I had in my old house laundry room. It made the perfect dump sink.
