You forgot to mention that it prevents wheel lock up.
That’s more if u don’t use the clutch and just shift down like on a dirt bike, although most don’t lock up much naymkre

I had no idea this was a thing people didn’t know how to do so glad I’ve been riding since young it’s made my learning curve for street riding much smaller as far as riding itself safety and rules are still being worked on haha
Another key point to make is that it is much safer. If you need to downshift in a corner in an emergency and don’t know how to match RPM’s then you risk disrupting traction to your rear tire.
Just learned this the hard way yesterday, survived the turn but scared the shit outta myself.
I’ve only been riding for a week now and I’m on a ninja 400 I’ve seen this technique and I do want to practice it somewhere safe because I’ve heard if done wrong bike will jerk you forward.
Me being new to this amazing world on two wheels is so much fun but I came across one of short video a few weeks back and the way you demonstrate and explain verbally, and visually have helped out along way. Keep it up. 👍
Yeah do it in a higher gear just learn that way then start doing it in the lower gears
Yea if you do it when your rpms are already low when the clutch re-engages it had to bring the rpms back down causing the bike to jerk foward

Higher your rpm’s before you downshift the more throttle you gotta give to rev match as well
Yo fam. I did it while I was getting off on the freeway and entering the off ramp I was in 5 down shift and rev. And went smooth and so on so for by the time I hit 2 I could of gonna a little slower because I can hear the rpm being high but I was excited that I was able to do it and have a smoother experience in higher gear shifting down. Good looking everyone and lol was riding to work this morning and this guy on a GSX-R600 started riding the damn tank and it’s 5am in the morning lol also damn witness the speed and power today of the bike I thought I was fast but dang!

Thank you I was on the highway (I’m a new rider) and went to downshift and didn’t rev and I bounced forward my rear wheel started locking up I got scared but stayed calm and held in the clutch and I was good. But good to know this thank you!!!

You can rev match with out matching the speed of next gear what i mean if iam in 4th gear speed i can down shift to 3 rd gear without bringing the speed to the 3rd gear

So the steps are 1st step pull clutch in
Second step shift gear down
Third step blip the throttle ? Sorry im a new rider learning.
Basically. I think about it as three steps:
1. Pressure on the shifter
2. Pull in the clutch AND close the throttle at the same time
3. Release the clutch AND blip at once
You only need to pull the clutch as far as it takes for it to click into the lower gear. Once you hear/feel that click, on to step 3.

People as long as you know what do just be easy until you catch your own rythem i had a 1983 Gpz 750 1100 and 550 in the year 1983 first big bike ate everything on the highway until 1986 Cop the GSXR 750 once again smoke everything on the highway

Wait do I blip the throttle after knocking it a gear down and before I release my clutch?
It's an all at once sort of thing, you grab the clutch, blip a bit while downshifting and then release the clutch, entire thing doesn't even take half a sec.
Say you don’t rev match your a beginner does it mess the motorcycle up in any way?

Been riding for 4yrs and still can't rev match. I just clutch in and downshift and never had a problem
You only really need to rev match if you're dropping into a lower gear to accelerate or to engine brake hard. If you're more of a chill rider, it might never come up (especially if your bike has a slipper clutch).
You only need to do it on the street if you want to drop gears quick and maintain that speed, that's all you need it for mostly. Takes timing but it's about .5s between clutch gear throttle clutch

I've ridden dirt bikes and some street bikes, but my experience is limited. My daughter just got a 2022 ninja 400 this year and started riding. She was able to start rev matching pretty well after about a month
@@spacetimeworm it's like less than half a second between all, clutch-blip-gear-clutch to go into a lower gear.
Hell if you want to try this one it's easy, apply alittle pressure to the shifter either going up or down. Going down blip the throttle doing up cut the power alittle ... and you just done a clutchless shift 😅

I can’t be the only one who thought the first one sounded better than the second one right just getting into motorcycles trying to find out how to correctly downshift everyone wants to blip the throttle, but it just sounds worse and I wanna know how to do it correctly

Loosen up your grip alittle bit. Firm but not tense. And lots of practice. I use 2fingers over the brake lever. If that helps.
brake by squeezing with your fingers, not by squeezing your entire palm
Don't forget it'll save ware and tair on your clutch.

Haven't mastered that yet..or even rev matching while holding the front brake. I use the rear to maintain deceleration for the momentary release of the front brake
I use this method when I'm down shifting on the highway or at high speeds. 30ish and under I use the clutch to downshift. I've gotten good clutchless downshifting while using the front brake at the same time as well...without any major lugging or lurching due to unintentional brake application.
@briangiven7399 to do clutchless just apply the tiniest bit of pressure down and barely blip the throttle, it's stupid easy, going up just apply pressure up on the gear and close the throttle, it'll pop right in. . . You can do it 1st to 6th and vice versa

I’ve been riding for 5 weeks now. I rode my bike off the lot not knowing anything. 10 seconds after riding it clicked and I was able to hit all gears no issue. I’m just starting to learn to downshift and its way better now that im practicing more

No it doesn’t..Trust me these things can take a pounding. If you rev match it’s much smoother and it’s actually better for the motorcycle
