Why not use the filler underneath the ECU (clipped to Battery) ?

Thanks for the video. Which number hex key removes the big drain plug?

If there is an oil leak from the axel seal and the F40 auto box overheats "message appearing" on dashboard for 2 seconds.
Stopped the car after 500 m.
The gearbox lost 1 liter of oil, the last 5.5 liters are brown, does the gearbox survive if new oil is added ?
    Thank you !

If the oil is brown mabe oil cooler is leaking. If you flush the box and replace oil it should be good

    • @lifeRobrandom

It is advisable to change the oil occasionally

Manual gearbox is every 100,000 miles. Auto is every 50-100,000 depending on how you drive.

Your kiddin me, so I need to fill it with oil feeding it up the way?? Why do garages keep saying they don't like doing a drain and refill incase something go's wrong???

because if the gearbox is badly worn, the newer oil could mean it slips more.

You fill a F40 auto box from the filler plug just behind the battery by using a bit of hose pipe with a funnel attached to it. Do not listen to this guy about filling it up and also the long pipe on the drain plug is the oil level indicator. When refilling (do when auto box is hot above 70deg) oil will drip out of the drain plug that's what the small plug within the drain plug is for. The pre 2013 Insignia had three plugs one fill one drain and one fluid level check the 2013-2016/17 only has two plugs in the transmission because opel/vauxhall combined the drain plug and level check plug in one. I really hate it when RUclipsrs don't know that they are talking about.

this gearbox it uses the drain level check to fill it same as Mercedes I'm not sure how you think I've been misleading or informing people wrong

AF40-6 is not a GM tranmission. It's made by Aisin almost identical to one used in Toyota's. It is the exact same transmission as TF80SC/AW6A-EL etc used in Saabs/AlfaRomeo's/Volvos/Citroen/Peugeot/Ford etc.
The top drain hole is not always accessable, especially in the 2.8 Insignia OPC/VXR.
The bottom fill method using the level indicator is very commonly used for those transmissions, you just need to measure how much goes out and goes back in

@MrFredscrap hi, how do I fill via the bottom please ? My 2016 insignia does not have a fill plug above battery

I'm with you on this, same principle as a Mercedes, that's why it has the level pipe in the drain plug.@@lifeRobrandom

It's not that difficult fill the gearbox up till it is over the top of the level run the engine get the gearbox up to operating temperature drain any excess out or put in extra as required same as nearly every other automatic gearbox
