Studying Norwegian With Duolingo App 2020 - How I Practise Norwegian Pronunciation, Listening Skills

- In this video I’ll give you something more.. entertaining - Watch me speak Norwegian with my German accent yaay
Here I show you how I use the app Duolingo, mainly to practise my listening and speaking skills.
Disclaimer: For my overall studying experience I use different types of Norwegian study-books and grammar sheets I find online, and attended a proper language class for one semester.
Duolingo itself is not enough to learn a new language, as it doesn’t offer grammar lessons and further explanations to understand individual lectures on this app. Otherwise it’s a nice way to learn new vocabulary and use it in sentences.
Side note: If you’re wondering who I am, my channel ‘theofficialbandp’ or ‘samkath’, as it is now, used to be a 100% polymer clay focused channel back then from 2012-2014. I’m studying Norwegian as well in Norway and the “svart / svært” was the same for me in the beginning 😂
thank you for making me feel understood, now I know I am not alone with this confusion! 😅 also, very nice to see another norwegian learner :)
@@samkath I know this is from a year ago, so you might already know this. But in relation to the question of what's the difference between "veldig" and "svært": veldig is the word that more directly translates as "very", whereas svært is a different word entirely that only occasionally has a similar usage.
"Svært" is a different form of the word "Svær" which (depending on context) translates as "big/large, heavy/rough".
So the reason "svært" in some circumstances translates as "very" is because of something being explained as "large" in some sense. For example "that is very unlikely" (det er svært usannsynlig), or "I am very happy" (jeg er svært glad). Its a "large" unlikelyhood and a "large" happiness.
And that's why if you were going to say "that was a large house", you could say "det var et svært hus"
@@merlith4650 thank you so much for this detailed explanation!! everyone who'll come across this will appreciate your comment! 🙌💯
your pronunciation is actually really good, keep going :)
thanks for saying that🤗
in a way it's like singing
As a Norwegian, you speak Norwegian very well🇳🇴😁
I don’t think i have ever seen anyone get this far on duolingo. Good for you👏👏
thank you!😁 that was actually my goal, to show how far one can go with free apps
This was two years ago but… YOU ARE DOING GREAT! I’m learning it on Duolingo also!
thanks, I hope you're enjoying it as much as I do😊
Perfect! I am a Norwegian and you did great! 👏👏👏👏
tusen takk, det setter jeg pris på!😁
Hahah I love this idea😍 You’re pronunciation was way better than I expected when clicking on this vid👏🏽👏🏽
That's such a nice compliment, that gives me a bit of hope!😅🥰
I had never known about this app! It looks very helpful dear😍😍 Thank you for sharing the fun and informative contents:D
Thank you for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it!😁 It's a nice app to start learning languages
As we say in Norwegian: bra jobba!!!✨
Takk skal du ha!!😁
Im norwegian so this was fun to watch
😆😆
I'm Brazilian and I'm starting to learn Norwegian at duolingo. Your video helped me a lot mainly with the tip to pronounce words like "landet", the pronounce it's been my worts nightmare haha.
massa q tbm sou BR, tbm aprendo norueguês e isso foi a 1 mês atrás
I really like how you approach Duolingo. It's so easy for me to take the easy way out most days but I'd like to do more of how you do Duolingo.
definitely recommendable to get to know the language first! most of the time I used it when I was bored or wanted to have a break from social media
Are you still learning Norwegian? I'm looking for any and all Norwegian learning inspiration on RUclips (there isn't many) lol.
yes, I'm actually still on it! unfortunately that's true, there aren't that many..
I’m Norwegian
I speak Norwegian
I am Norwegian
yeaa same
Norwegian is a beautifull language!
Very good! It’s not 100% (the pronunciations is not like you’re born and raised in Norway) but it’s like 95%, if not more. Impressive! I’m learning Korean with Duolingo😅 I started January 1 2022. All I know is 안녕하세요 (Hello, formal).
But I can’t quit! It’s motivating to see others like you learn and understand a new language! You’re doing great! Keep up the good work! 😁
✨Happy new year! (Godt nytt år!)✨
Wow er det sant? thanks a lot for that feedback, really appreciate it 🙈
That's exactly how I started my language journey. Just keep it up the way you do it right now and you'll come far. Godt nytt år!😄
Amazing video
your accent is on point!!
thanks😅
As a Norwegian I think you're doing great!
Keep it up!
Yeah I do know that this video is nearly a year old. But just in case if you are still practicing Norwegian.
(SORRY BAD ENGLISH.)
thank you so much! og JA, jeg lærer fortsatt norsk! jeg planlegger å lage en oppdatert video om duolingo, forhåpentligvis snart 😊
Just started Norwegian as dutchie, and it makes so much sense to me.
hei, welcome to the norwegian club!😁
2:20 I am relatively new to learning and its great to know et/en is just as frustrating when you have level 5s
it's a lifetime struggle of mine😅
I come back to this video for motivation 😊
*sending lots of motivation* ✨️ ✉️✨️
Woow..new friend here❤️❤️
Hi hello😁👋
Du snakker veldig bra norsk!
Takk skal du ha!😁
Jeg snakker ikke Norsk, but I'm learning (started 5 days ago) and I'm not planning to give up until I reach my goal. Being fluent in German really helps though. Greetings from Croatia ❤❤❤
Yesss go get it! Greetings back from Norway🥰🥰
Learning on Duolingo right now. Are you still at it? How's it going / did it go?
you look so pretty..
Really your voice is very nice😍😍😍
Thank you!!😊
elsker fra Canada!
Hilsen tilbake!😁
I've been using duo to learn norwegian and have a 535 day streak yet still can barely form sentences. Started learning gaelic too and the voices are so robotic and fast that I can't even distinguish them in listening exercises
I also learn norwegian! I m polish so the grama of my native language and words are totally different but I love nordic climate and I need to learn it haha
Hello! 👋 Greetings from Lithuania 🇱🇹 I’m sorry to interrupt you’re comment, but I like that you learning Norwegian 🇳🇴 I love Scandinavian countries a a Lithuanian and I like their nature too good luck learning Norwegian! I will learn it soon too! 🇱🇹🤝🇵🇱
@@Kefyraskurisvalgovaikus good luck)
im dying inside listening to the text to speech
Thanks for sharing this. I learn from duolingo and my skill is not progressing. I just found out that I did it wrong.
duolingo itself can be pretty challenging, I felt the same way before. luckily there are tons of other language learning apps out there, and a good mix with those and language books can go a long way in your learning progress 😊
omg finally a person that study’s norwegian, I struggle so hard because there little to no recourses and I have no idea where to start 😊 and did I hear that from the beginning right that ur from Germany too?
aww I'm glad you found my video! it's the same the other way around, there are not a lot of people who also study norwegian. actually i'm from Austria😁 ich nehme mal an, dass du deutsch sprichst, oder?
I started learning norsk in Norwegian and its been 2 months and yes i can say i can speak basic Norwegian im in the checkpoint 2 near 3 i study 2 lessons per day haha
Me too
that's nice! 2 lessons per day is ideal. not too overwhelming and easier to stay consistent with. lykke til!
Amazing hearing about people learning Norwegian because it is my first language. Keep it up🇸🇯♥️👍
Are you still on Duolingo? What’s your name there?
The way duolingo pronounces some words are just insane 😭 I don't even recognize my native language when those tts bots speak
It's ironic how this language on the app has a lot of supporters and a well developed community but on RUclips you can mainly find videos about people who use duolingo to learn other languages such as Spanish or French.
But there are quite a few very good youtube channels. Your pronunciation is very good too.
that's true! but I guess generally speaking, norwegian isn't one of those "typical" languages you would pick to study, like, as you said, spanish and french. every single norwegian learner I have found in the language learning community wants to live in/travel to norway. because they are interested in the country itself, and its culture and nature.
thank you, that means a lot to me! also, would love to hear some of your recommendations! :)
@@samkath Ironically, i started studying it when i stopped wanting to live there.
And nowadays I study it mainly to develop a strong characteristic trait of my personality (do you remember him? ah yes, the guy whom study norwegian.... rotfl) and also because i like its balance on cultural mixture of Latin languages and german languages. (as italy, a lot of time it seems to me as english with more italian vocabulary inside and simplifed german phrases construction)
Åja I see! 😅 motivation can come in any shape
Does this app provide documentation or any tests whatsoever after the lessons?
I wouldn't call it tests but after finishing at least level one on all subjects of one whole unit, you have to pass a recap of all those subjects to enter the next unit. if you've used duolingo before then it's a bit easier to understand😅
Du var god
How long did it take you to be at this level?
When did you start?
I started in 2018 by studying with books and apps on my phone before going to classes
Hei og lykke til med å lære norsk!
hjertelig takk!🥰
Jeg elsker Norge og Du
Jeg elsker det
As a Norwegian I feel ur pain lol. your pronounciation is v good!❤
thank you, that's actually comforting to hear😁
@@samkath ofc
It’s so easy and the sentence structure is way better than English in my opinion
i study Chinese cuz i love their culture and food, but i study norwegian cuz of my best friend so maybe in future i talk to her in her language
wow that's impressive! 💯
What is your name on Duolingo? I’d like to be Duolingo friends. I’m currently using it for Norwegian as well and Korean
that would be awesome! my name is sam226713, hope you can find me😁
@@samkath awesome I’ll add you now. I go as parastar5 on Duolingo 🙂
What level one reach after completing all Duolingo lesson?
I am also learning and at beginner level!!
We can talk each other if you don't mind for mutual benefit of improving our Norwegian 👌
thanks for the offer! right now I prefer studying alone, I hope you understand! :)

No problem

You‘re so cute abf ❤️
❤❤
confusion level 10/10
exactly, but it gets better with time😌
5:03 You said it right the tts didn't 😔😔
the tts said "one" not "than"
it's because of cases like this one I get so confused about the right pronunciation 😭
Does NOT seem easier than French 😂
Noo, not really😅😅
Norska är basically svenska, men du hoppar över bokstäver och uttalar allt som en norrman.
Ja, det er det faktisk. Men jeg har det fortsatt litt vanskelig å forstå alt på svensk😆 Men takk for at du så på videoen min!
im norwegian yeess
